Wouldn't instance housing also take up server space?
Housing is the single most painful thing for me about this game by far. It was the biggest thing that made me try this game a year ago after being a 15 year WoW veteran. No one warned me how hard it is to get a home of your own, and the apartments and FC rooms literally make me feel claustrophobic and anxious; I despise even being in one. I have the money I need to buy a Medium but as a player on Mateus I feel like I have a better chance of someone randomly slipping me 50 million gil on the street than I do of winning a house. I put in a bid for a Small in the first auction cycle and I was lot 201. At least it went to a player, I guess (lot 48.)
There are literally ads for this game that advertise housing its own form of endgame. Those ads don't have some asterisk under them warning "IF you're one of the lucky small fraction of players who can get one, if not then enjoy trying to make a house out of a broom closet." This has made me cry from feeling excluded, and has made me feel like my account, as a relatively new player, is worth dramatically less than that of a player who has been around since this mythical time people speak of where houses used to sit around unpurchased. This all has brought me to the brink of quitting XIV many times, and indeed, I've let my sub lapse more than once when it's hurt too much to bear. And this is all because I adore the game. I love XIV's writing, characters, and world, so of course I want my own little piece of Etheirys to enjoy and shape and invite my friends to.
I agree Moody. Ffviii is underrated. Really interesting and entertaining podcast all. Glad you’re all happy with the pvp system too and the new mechanics in the dungeon and alliance raid this patch were so good!
Another problem I have with housing is that they've told us that they can't allow glamour dressers in persistent housing for technical reasons. But the lack of glamour dressers is the exact reason why I don't spend time at my apartment nor at my FC house. My whole FFXIV world revolves around the glamour dresser.
