23:14 Ah yes, the quintessential part of all Castrum runs, the markers. "C1D" is the more common, but some cheeky people instead like to spell out "D1CB4G" or…"dickbag". Both are always entertaining.
MSQ Roulette is affectionately called the Netflix Queue in my FC, because that's generally what you end up doing instead of paying attention to the dungeon.
Eyy, this little history lesson is quite amusing considering I'm watching this video during Praetorium cutscenes! It's a really good summary of the issue, and I'm really glad I had gotten a heads up about these dungeons before doing them because even with the unskippable cutscenes, watching my party zoom ahead with no idea what to do wouldn't have been a great time.
EDIT: Wow Dan, that speed-reading of the dungeon description was mighty impressive!
At last, this one's thirst for vengence has been quenched. Thank you, walking one. Though it is strange, this one cannot help but feel pity for the imperial one.
I'll be honest, I always wished that Livia had survived that fight, albeit out of action for a while, because I wanted to know more about her. It is always a shame when a complex character is cut short because of storyline. I feel we actually got a bit of what she may have been in Yotsuyu but certainly not to the degree Livia was.
Rough spot is putting it kindly yeah. I have always been a bit in conflict myself in how to solved that issue since the cut scenes are not always placed nicely and part of the fun in running dungeons is doing them. Without that band aid fix, you'd eventually get to a point where you can only do it with a premade or people who love that specific dungeon but you'd get to enjoy the story and the dungeon how square probably intended. With this band-aid however, you are getting the issue of people speed running it for the reward while you are missing part of the fun and the story bits from during the fight or how to actually do the dungeon in the first place. When i did that dungeon the first few times, i didn't even know you had to do the search light things as i was either running as i tried to keep up with the party or thrown in cut scenes. Only had to do 2 of the boss fights, nothing else.
I find myself vaguely disappointed that Livia's custom paintjob magitek armour didn't have a big ol' horn on the 'forehead' – which in this case would be the upper pivoting plate on the cannon enclosure, I guess? That's the part I'd parse as the head, anyhow.
Also, can we take a minute to aporeciate how good that colour scheme looks on that design?
So, for context to those that don't know this dungeon like the back of their eyelids! The first pull on Meridianum is W E I R D! The forced cutscene triggers when two buttons have been pressed (normally by the DPS) that disable searchlights, and it effectively stuns the entire party while enemies are allowed to run free. The party is immune for about a quarter of a second before the cutscene and during it, but the moment they come out, which can vary by a small amount due to loading times, they're no longer immune to damage. And if they start dealing it, or ESPECIALLY healing a tank who hasn't hit EVERY SINGLE MOB, they will get aggro. From everything. And probably die!
And that stun can happen at ANY point in the long pull up to the door. It just kinda happens. So, it's not unusual for even the most experienced players to either die, or as a healer, drop the tank if the tank has more processing speed and a better connection than them. That's a weird section of dungeon. Wipes happen. Just reset and try again, like our hero here did. 😀
So, Dan, I know there is a lot to go but when this series is eventually over can you do this for other Final Fantasy games? I'm not familiar with any of them after X and somewhat X-2 though I wouldn't mind revisiting X or 9 or 7 again. Great music!
I've literally had people be upset they ended up in the shorter dungeon because they had planned to DO THEIR TAXES during all the cutscenes in the longer one.
I don't believe Dan noticed, but when I used my Limit Break at 30:00 I used a macro which also put in party chat (and yell chat) "There'll be nyothing left of you but a SMOKING CRATER!", which is a reference to a line a certain character says during her own limit break in Shadowbringers. 🙂 – N'yalisaie (and Deya)
What a good crew, the Free Company looks delightful. Would definitely join in if I was still on Crystal, but now that I've played with low ping on Materia, I can't go back. xD
As Jacob said during Desert Bus, these dungeons give you Booku Buck Rewards now. I can't count the number of times I have done my Main Scenario roulette while catching up on PlayFrame videos.
“You did blow up the wall like the kool-aid man”
OOH YEAH!!!!!!
"May her soul know rest."
Cid: "I've got other stuff to do. I can't join you for the next missions."
Well that was a lie.

33:33 got a good laugh out of me. The very tone is so "ma'am this is a Wendy's?"
Man, the music in that dungeon is badass. Love it!

These last two dungeons were what taught me to say that it was my first time running a dungeon so that I could actually understand what was going on.
Veterans are genrally v. nice to new players as long as they know you're new!

13:58 Did Dan let the King of all Cosmos take over commentary for a moment here?
i was lucky enough to have only first timers for my first time in castrum meridianum

a comment to please our almighty overlord with engagement to feed the algorithm!
Always weird when characters touch their masks as if they were touching their faces, you feel nothing, what does it accomplish?
Oh well, to everyone their kinks I guess.
Have a good day.
What amuses me is that I'm literally running Castrum Meridianum in the MSQ roulette as I watch this XD
Happy to see a Malazan name in your merry band 🙂
I just love it that you let Durmin sit down when you explain stuff. The intro too with the little wave! Your emote game is on point!

I am hype Durmin =D
Thanks >w<
How did the future expansions handle the story in dungeons if not through cutscene?

I know about your hidden talents! Hidden talents for distributing snacks!

Dan pronouncing Tulare wrong hurts my soul since I actually live in Tulare county
This is bad, the more I watch these, the more I want to start playing again.

I learned from watching a small amount of other dan streaming that Cid is also a character in FF 5 who also worked on airships. 🤔

Is it bad that I got excited when the Black Eft showed up, thinking it might be the one magitek thingy that they granted sentience?
Edit: With those knife-guns on her armor, I'm kinda curious about how Livia Sas Junius would do against like… Tifa, or Snow.
"I'm cute and I give people snacks"
I mean….. where's the lie?
