  1. fun fact: marauder was a better tank than warrior in 2.0. It also did comparable damage to a lot of dps classes, thanks to being able to grab roughly half a billion damage buffs. The end result was raging strikes, blood for blood, inner release (this was a crit buff), and berserk, combined with slashing resistance down and damage up from maim/storm's eye, which led to absurd dps marauders at lvl 50 that could out-perform a lot of the dedicated dps jobs. As for tank? Yeah you actually got more (and typically better) defensive CDs from other jobs in large enough number that you ended up being tankier because war tank stance was borderline useless in 2.0 -_-.

  2. did you know that player hitboxes were different depending on their race? They changed it early in ARR to balance stuff. Every tanks were a lalafell because they have small hitbox. Now ot's just a tiny little pixel in the center, so everyone's the same.

Did you know, ROG/NIN is actually a the only job that's added in between expansion (ARR – HW). That's why you cannot choose rogue from the character creation.

Did you know that flying in ARR zones were not a thing until patch 5.3? Now you can fly, being added after you defeat the ultima weapon

Did you know, the armor you get from trading odin plates actually had the odin cape before. They removed it because there's a lot of physics on the cape, and if everyone's using it, the game lags so much.

  3. Stoneskin, people complaining about how long it took to Stoneskin everyone so SE added Stoneskin II late into ARR, having to go to a town to switch classes or all your abilities would be put on like a 10 second cooldown, everyone had to level bard for both Quelling and Raging Strike, had to be 50 to even access glamours, "Where do I get egg?", Flash, Sprint not only consuming your TP but it's duration was based on how much it consumed, so if you were low for some reason like you just revived after wiping in a dungeon, you'd blow it for 1 second of movespeed. Good times…

  4. also healers needed to cast protect for the whole party and individually cast stoneskin to each member, I remember the fun time chasing down tanks who runs ahead to protect and stoneskin them

  5. I totally forgot about quelling strikes! Such a throwback, it was so bad to start dpsing and suddenly pull aggro because my profetic megumin cosplay job was doing too much dmg. Good times

Also, I miss to hate the old enochian

  6. I'm so glad multiple systems have been simplified over the years, one being the Glamour system, unlike how it is now, with just the one universal Glamour Prism item, there was 35 different Glamour Prism items, one for every crafting class (except CUL) and in 5 separate tiers, if you wanted to glamour a shield, you needed the ARM Glamour Prism, for a robe, a WVR Glamour Prism, and so on, the level of the gear you wanted to glamour determined what tier prism you needed.

That old version of the glamour system was a massive inventory hog, because we only had 100 inventory slots back then and no Chocobo Saddlebag, so if you had at least one of every Glamour Prism at each tier, that's over 1/3 of your inventory taken up from just Glamour Prisms.

Another system that has luckily improved is the inventory system, we used to only have 100 slots, no Chocobo Saddlebag and items would only stack up to 99 each, now we have an inventory with 150 slots, a Chocobo Saddlebag with a further 70 slots and item stacks go as high as 999.

  8. i loved hearing about the coils strats you used back then! my group is doing coils at min ilvl no echo and while it's still really fun and challenging, i've been super curious about what the fights were like before.

  9. Oh yes… Heavensward, where a Summoner doing his opener would ALWAYS pull aggro no matter what the tank did (at the start of the expansion, they nerfed Summoner after a while) or where Tanks would use STR Accessories, because of DPS which made them squishy as hell and they would still pull like 3 groups and die when you were not spam healing them which wasn't helped because those Tanks also used their DPS stance and not the Tank stance….

  10. seeing someone that has played the game for so long talking about how things were before and how it has been upgraded makes me feel in a way happy, like a grandpa talkin about ting he did when he was younger.

  11. Something I really miss as a tank was the stance dancing between the old Shield Oath (basically enmity stance) and Sword Oath (damage stance).

Managing aggro was actually a fun part of tanking for me. It helped that I started the game as a Gladiator so there was no time for me to get tanxiety at all.

  12. I started playing during 4.0 so I missed most of this stuff, but I remember my friends trying to explain to me how they had to deal with ADS, and I've always been really confused like "wah-?"
    now it's all clear.
    thank you Larry sensei uwu

  13. I know people hated needing to level other classes to unlock jobs or vital things like Swiftcast, but I loved that it made me try out things that weren't MNK just to reaffirm I did indeed love that job the most.
