  1. Haven't watched the video yet but thought I'd drop some advice for anyone getting into tanking. I first started tanking a year ago when I wanted to try Dark Knight. Best thing you can do is watch a guide to know the basics and at the start of a dungeon just say you're new to tanking and most people will be understanding if you let them no. Also make sure your tank stance is on 😅. Even I still forgot it's not on at times as it turns off. Just do it and only tank as much as you're comfortable with 💪

  2. Question. As a tank first pulling a group of mobs at low level. Should you provoke one mob, then switch targets to another mob to melee hit them then once the rest of the mobs get close just do an aoe to hit them all? In other words is it important to switch targets at the beginning of a pull?

  3. I'm not a beginner, but it doesn't hurt to keep refreshed. I just want to add, as far as defensive CDs go it's best to try and get used to pressing them and keeping them on CD as you are learning, then figure out how to best use them tactically. Too often they are forgotten when they are needed most because the muscle memory wasn't built in prior.

  4. The fact is. I don’t wanna tank with paladin or marauder. I want to use gun blade or dark knight, BUT I have to play through the entire 9year story to touch them.

  5. Great info Brian! One mistake I see brand new tanks make is treating the tank stance button like a skill instead of a toggle, so they turn it on and off during the duty. You did state it but I wanted to emphasize this again.

  6. A common mistake for new tanks is not using their ranged initiator to start a fight. I've had new tanks explain they don't use it because it only hits one target so they want to room in and aoe instead. What they don't realize is that the other mobs in that group also instantly see the tank as a threat and target the tank, causing them to all move toward the tank together and making it much easier for the tank to aoe them and solidify their enmity (threat).

  7. I started tanking a few days ago. My first dungeon I forgot to apply Grit and couldn't figure out why I couldn't keep aggro lol. I've learned a lot since then and have tanked a few trials, looking forward to tanking my first raid this weekend. It's a total blast and if you are unsure about it, just give it a try and let your party know you're new. I've yet to receive any flame, even in the dungeon I forgot to apply Grit in 🙂

  8. New subscriber here. And new player. Watched a few of your videos and I think you do a good job explaining things and you speak very clearly. Noob question, how do you get the enemy list in your HUB? Thank you

  9. Tankijg sounds scary. But here's a good bit of advice, and it goes for literally any job in the game: if you ever want to dip your toes in a new job, always queue for the early level dungeons where less skills are available. From there, build up your hotbars as you'd like and keep advancing at a pace you're comfortable with. When it comes to tanking and healing, you'll get more confidence from trying out easier content too, and you'll get the message that tanking is not as scary as it seems!

  10. Dude awesome guide. One thing that is missing is GOOD crafting guides. If you know anything about leveling crafting or know of another youtuber who can handle that tell them! GOOD videos need to be made on crafting guides. The guides out there are horrible !

  11. Once you get the hang of it, in FFXIV tanking is basically DPS facing the other way. It's so much more relaxing than tanking in other games. Even in high level content.

  12. I am playing a marauder and i already tanked some early stuff but it is just weird that tank stance is turned off as default when you enter the instance. It should be on unless I decide to turn it off.

  13. Thanks for the guide. Your point about reaper and sage in Endwalker is why I finally got my Gladiator to Paladin and started working on a Marauder too (trying to decide on which I have more fun with) Tanks will be needed and should get super quick times, or at least quicker than normal. I started Gunbreaker but figured the original 2 would be more simple, especially after failing one of the job quests and realizing I was trash lol I still need to tank a dungeon, but always worry about messing things up, especially knowing when to use cooldowns and all that.

  14. Subscribed to you my man. Started FF14 2 days ago. Thank you for the great vids and insight. Levelled 3 jobs to 31, 32, and 34 respectively lol. Gonna tank tonight.

  15. I too started maining a tank recently when I got my stand back and pew pew bard to 80. I get big tankxiety mostly because of the dungeons and not knowing the layouts and the extra responsibility. This video has been helpful though thank youuuu

  16. Newbie hear. Just want to check I understand correctly regarding "arms length". When I read the tooltip myself I'd assumed the "slow" component ment movement speed reduced on the target so maybe you could kite out if your in trouble. In the video you simply say the "slow" is reducing damage. do you mean it's slowing attack speed or casting speed to reduce damage?

  17. Thank you for this vid. I've always wanted to tank. It's the reason I keep playing these games. But I get jedi level tankxiety and then wimp out (switch to DPS). After seeing this vid I've decided to give it another go. Wish me luck and if you happen across a rather confused Marauder tank out don't think to badly of him. He's trying to get better, believe me…he's trying.

  18. For me the anxiety isnt from the actual tanking. Its knowing where to go in the dungeons. Its just easier to follow other players through it so i usually just go dps or maybe heals.

  19. As a tank and MNK main, my recommendation for new players wanting to tank is to play MNK or DRG, any long range DPS, and WHM. These three jobs will give you an understanding of how other jobs can be affected by the tank.

A tank that moves too much or unnecessarily is frustrating for a MNK or any positional DPS.

A tank that doesn't group the mobs together so the DPS can AoE burst them down is making a run inefficient.

A tank that refuses to pop cooldowns especially on big trash pulls is a healer's biggest headache. A tank positioning mobs or bosses in the wrong direction will frustrate backline jobs like mages.

Switching jobs gave me a bigger understanding on team dynamics.

Also, if tanking and it's your first time in the instance, just let your party know. They'll usually inform you on specific mechanics.

And always ask the healer if they want you to pull big or small. This is also up to you if you're not confident to do big pulls.

  20. Thanks for the info. I'm Giving FFXIV another shot after being unsubbed since the release of Heavensward. Was really wanting to play DRK and was laughing about how FF does "Death Knights" better than WoW in a heavily death knight themed expansion
