After suddenly disappearing over nine months ago without a word, I’m back. Not in the same way as before, but here I am, my face in all its teenage dirtbag glory telling the story of why, after two years of obsession with Final Fantasy XIV, I made the decision to quit the game. It’s a pretty sizable tale with many nuances and reasons, too many to go over in this video, but I tried anyway. I also go over what my plan for this channel is from here on out, as well as if I see a future for me within the world of the MMO.

Your story reminds me so much of my own. I was your age when I was heavily addicted to World of Warcraft. I was active in content creation, I had an incredibly active raiding guild I was part of and Lich King was just around the corner.
I am thankful to hear you had the strength and insight to step away from the game. Even with its ups and downs, it's not worth sacrificing your health. I'm sorry you had faced the loss of your friends, your static. It does happen sometimes and it still sucks regardless.
I didn't step away and it severely impacted my life. Only now, 15 years later, am I healthy enough to play MMOs – Final Fantasy 14 being my first since then. I guess this wall of text is just to say, you did make the right decision even if it might not feel like it sometimes.
Honestly, i can't remember what video got me into your channel (Frankly i know it was one of your earlier videos) , but i do remember watching almost if not all videos of your content. I'm an socially anxious person so I'm not in discord too often but i 100% remember drawing the very icon you have today. (Its so bad i wish i could draw men and stuff better.) To say here and there, I'm in the same boat in a way, hyped in SHB. Friends of 3.x-5.x eventually quitting and frankly the changes on the classes i enjoy is dwindling down. I still love the game and lore, but as you say try to maintain an more healthy relationship with the game.
Sorry for a sorta lengthy comment but genuinely one of the few FFXIV channels i related too and not some godlike raider or casual player who jokes every single second. It felt down to earth to me with a lot of things, writing being a key part.
I don't really comment much either way but thanks for taking your health into your account and doing what YOU want. That's all i wanted to say i would think but it be nice to just say all these things i think? Also if i have motivation to draw men like characters and such I would 100% redraw that because I see it all the time and I have the artist hitch to redo it better.
Honestly would like to hear what u think about the ultima Thule segment. But u do u bruh, ill stay subbed 👍
The Ultima Thule sequence is pretty much the sole reason (so far, expansion isn't completed without the patches, imo) that I rank EW below Shadowbringers, probably even below HW. The deaths of the Scions, while shocking at first, then continue to rack up with increasing speed just undercut any and all tension. Y'shtola telling us halfway through that they can be brought back at any time made all the scenes later, with G'raha and the twins especially, farcical. In a vaccuum, those are beautiful, moving scenes, but because you've been explicitly told that they'll be back, you're wondering why exactly Graha is extorting a promise from you or why the twins are making such a huge fuss about things.
Which isn't even getting into the weird situation with the Omicrons in Ultima Thule and their tribal quests in 6.25… like, why are we helping them? Aren't they just constructs by Meteion designed to just generate more despair? Why are they capable of autonomous thought now? And why do we care, we've been outright told all the civilizations in Ultima Thule are recreations and NOT the real thing, which has ceased to be some time ago. What do we hope to accomplish there? Of course it's in character for the WoL to offer help whenever asked, but what actual, tangible difference to the world are we even making here? Won't Ultima Thule eventually just dissipate, much like the fake Amaurot in the First? So many questions…
Also, the time travel shenanigans are always difficult to incorporate into a story and now we've got a time travel on top of a time travel with both associated paradoxes with it. After all, if Hydaelyn had chosen us to be our champion based on the conversation we had on Elpis… how'd she react to seeing the version of the WoL who dies to Black Rose? How'd that WoL even go back in time to have that conversation then?
Overall, EW was written solidly and has a few very deft incorporations of earlier lore and even music (Answers, most prominently), but it also has some glaring plotholes that it hopes it can paint over with enough emotional manipulation, which I think is a bit sad for a writing team this talented to be resorting to.
But all that aside, your reasons are completely understandable and while you didn't really owe an explanation, it does you credit to deliver it anyways. Games are meant to be fun and if they aren't and are in fact a detriment, you ought to step away from them. I wish you all the best in your future and hope your dreams and aspirations are met!
Just glad you are now doing more okey with yourself. I hope the content we get from you going forward will just be fun for you to make!
Nice to see you around younger Loki
Yoshi P has said to take breaks. Play other games. Eorzea will always be there.
Glad to hear that you are going to do videos that you want to do.
The FACT that you are 17 and taking this responsibility and talking more wise and mature than someone in their thirties (DONT JUDGE) is………very unusual indeed in a very good way……….
You will make it bright in the future <3 blessing to you
See you in 7.0🍻
Do we care why you stop it?? 🤔🤔
As someone who isn’t a sub and has only seen this video through YouTube’s algorithm, I’m gonna go ahead and use this unbiased opinion to say that your sections about the static and post EW leaves a lot to be desired.
You don’t go into even the slightest of detail of why the static broke up and why that mad you start to resent the game. There is no context to go on- was prog too slow? Was there drama? You said yourself you guys only raided for 2 days so my guess is probably casual. Things like this I feel are worth addressing if you’re going to make a video like this.
As for your reasoning for post EW, it seems like you literally did nothing else once the 2 EXs were farmed. If I remember correctly that’s usually all there is to do at the start of every new expac until savage releases if we’re talking midcore content. Did you do maps? Gather? Craft? Parse the new EXs? There is plenty of more to do than just beat hyd and Zodiark ex than just getting your weapon and accessories.
Overall I do feel the pace of this video is a bit messy. And while your subs might not mind it, again, I was genuinely curious about watching your video as a first timer to see why you quit but I found myself losing interest when compared to other “why I quit FFXIV/WOW” type videos. Your thumbnail comes off as clickbait but I was really hoping to see more valid points on why you quit. I 100% respect the fact that you are able to focus on your other hobbies and I’m happy for you in that regard though.
I know this isn’t a positive review by any means and I apologize for that, but I just feel that the video could have been summarized a lot better and a lot of fat could have been trimmed throughout the video for it to stretch past 20 minutes.
If you do come back don't force yourself into it. If not playing the game made you more happy that's great, you don't have to play it. Do what you like but just remember your mental/emotional health is more important than doing something for content that may or may not happen. Best wishes freind
Rip Such potential
As Yoshi-P already said many times, if you feeling burn out if your feeling restful of the game as you've said, please, take a break. There is no reason to feel like you must do content all the time the game is not going anywhere. The content will come in with or without you. So please don't feel like you need to play this game 24/7. If there's something else you need/want to do or focus on then do it. By all means you criticisms are absolutely valid but its where I can tell you were feeling burn out that I had to address most of all. For once I'm glad the YT algorithm lead me you, so I can post this.
Please take care of yourself.
Ah! That's where you've been! I'm really glad that you've a gameplan on what suits you and your sanity best! It was pretty darn fun when you ran that PvP tournament back in the day! I'll be really honest, this raid tier (Abyssos) has been a bit of a headache!
But in anyways, I hope to see your vids here and there again, and you'll definitely have a friend in Exodus if you ever do come back around!
You quit? lol
See ya in the next expansion
As someone else who came late to this game, I understand it can feel slow. I'm use to the "rush" of end game and didn't realize how "slow" the end game was in FF since I started a bit into ShB as well, but I'm actually okay with it because I've long been tired of feeling like I work a job and then come home to work at an MMO.
I suggest playing many MMO's or even other games to figure out what you like. I also tend to take breaks from MMO's either over summers or spring. It's good to have other hobbies so when one starts to feel like a chore? You can go to another? Typically when any hobby becomes a chore it's more about how we are approaching that hobby more than the hobby itself.
Good job. Balance in all things, mister sir.
Recognizing a problem in life and having the will and courage to make the needed change is a huge life lesson. You have my respect.
Whatever you to choose to apply your obviously keen intellect and engaging personality to I believe you will flourish. Best of luck to you doing whatever makes you happy!
Nothing special to your case .. You're young .. you don't sit still and don't know any better yet .. you'll be back when you're ready to settle
From my own experience, FF14 helped me get through the pandemic but I've been winding down slowly after I realised I played way too much and neglected other parts of my life. I honestly can't imagine how people play multiple MMOs. There is still so much I want to do in the game but I'm enjoying it more leisurely now. I finally get to catch up on other games too and I'm happy with the balance I've found.
I hope you find fulfillment in your future endeavors, FFXIV will be there when you are ready to come back. For the time being it is best you do when you feel is best for yourself, may you ever walk in the light of the crystal.
I quit ff14 2 times.
One time by heavensward. I was in the middle of hw story, and changed the consol from ps3 to ps4. After that, i lost interesst.
The second time was, after i finished the msq of shadowbringer.
Doing each day the roulette for stones became boring. And i thinked, that raids wasnt something for me. I had the image, that raids in mmo is only something for the elite, because of my experience in wow (whe only take people for the raids, who has allready the stuff from the raids, that you can only have, when you are doing the raid = it was impossible to do raids).
Like yoshi sayed, it is ok to do breaks.
I’ve played the game six years now. But I have a business, a wife, 6 kids (including twins born a month ago) so my game time is a few hours a week, and during expansion launches, I might take a few days to get more time with it.
It’s great for people like me. I always feel like I get something done every time I play, even if it just working towards a mount or something. Granted, I can’t savage raid anymore, and haven’t since Stormblood, but you got to make choices.
Only just found your channel. Welcome back to ffxiv. Don’t pressure yourself into anything. Just do what you enjoy. 🙂
Why did I just waste a half hour of my life? Sad little millennial gamer realizes that there is more to life than video games, then goes back to video games…
I think what you did is perfectly fair and reasonable. I may be obsessed with the game, but different people are bound to react differently than me, so no offense taken. Do whatever makes you happiest 🙂
I feel everyone has their reason or another for why they quit a game. Sometimes it's burnout, other times it could be something as simple as it doesn't click with you anymore, or maybe you just have other priorities in life since that isn't a uncommon thing. Either way so long as you are doing well and happy that is all that matters.
Endwalker was the end of a story, if the main thing you liked was the story, id say take a break for a long time till there is a long story to go through again.
