The Highs and Lows of FFXIV's Last Year

I wanted to talk about a couple of moments from 2024 that mattered to me personally, for both the good and the bad. If you have any of your own, I’d love to read them in the comments section!

  1. FURE MI'ZU!! we also grouped with them during their p3 prog! they became somewhat famous in our group for sometimes randomly dying to stuff. it wasn't until a few PFs in that we found it it was a 1 hand controller + autorun situation (and that the HFT adjustments were an adaptive strat). genuinely a very cool thing to learn in the wild

  2. I first found your channel from your long form video on dsr, and they are still my favorite of your videos. So this is day 1 of my asking you to finish the TEA video and to please do more. You are an incredible storyteller. Don't let your fear and uncertainty stop you.

  3. It can be hard to make art when you've got that perfectionist brain worm. I've stopped drawing for months at a time when a piece fell apart, lamenting that "I'm regressing why even bother" before eventually running into a situation where I almost need to draw more than want to, picking up my pen and rediscovering the love of it.

For what it's worth you're one of my favorite ff creators, and I enjoy every video. I'd watch more streams, but I don't really enjoy watching anyone's, so I'm glad you have the long form to share with the community as well. Take care of yourself in 2025, do what you can, I can't wait to see it.

  4. For me it ended up such a massive low that I quit this month despite only just now touching down in Shadowbringers. I started playing this game thinking it was one thing, and it turned out to be something completely different, and it's just been an overall negative and lonely experience I want to finally get away from because it's clear the game was never meant for me.

  5. On the point of everyone dipping because they just don't enjoy where the game is or where (they think) it's headed, is perfectly valid. The only part of the statement(s) I'll argue against, is people "quitting for good" which is outright moronic in my book.

MMOs are built on community and feedback. If there's no community to enjoy the game, it stagnates and becomes a mtx hellhole like RS3 or RIFT. And if there's no digestible feedback, the game keeps rolling on the same track, because "no feedback is good feedback". And by "digestible foodback" I mean stuff like much of Rinon said in this video. "The patch cycle feels at odds with the theme of the expansion" (paraphrased) is a solid and worthwhile bit of feedback that a designer can actually use for something. The all-too-common person screaming about how PCT is "overtuned" or how content is "unclear-able without one" is NOT feedback that a designer can do anything, as it's largely a community perception.

Keep up the content, man. Keep discussing FF and how you feel about the game. It's important for the developers to know and in all fairness, creators like you, Cider, Rath, Woops, Xeno, Arth and even Preach, are all our loudest voices. Which is also a bit of a responsibility, but y'all are up to snuff 🙂

  6. It's odd. I've seen a lot of people walk away from the game because of the Dawntrail story not appealing to them but there are a lot of people that weren't even really into the story that are leaving too. I really hope they can figure out what changes that they've made that have killed the spark for so many people that enjoy the game in so many drastically different ways.

  7. Great video!! I don't really play FFXIV anymore, my last patch was the second raid tier in EW, but I still love the game and your videos are one of my main ways of still connecting with the community. I'm super excited for your next raid story telling one 🙂

  8. I don't get why you feel guilty for saying that you literally made the guide they are misreferring to, lol. PF has far too many toxic players in it, people who are horrible at the game who will turn the environment into a miserable one just so they feel better about their performance. That would feel very satisfying to experience for me.

  9. I cleared both Anabaesios savage and UWU in PF and had some good times, but it was tuning into your late 6.5 streams that made me really get into PFing content for _fun_, and to help other people get their clears. I've gone a bit ham this tier and have cleared M1S on 11 different jobs, including getting over some serious anxiety about the role to play healer in savage for the first time. Learning to embrace the mess and the chaos and pushing myself to try new things has been a great experience, and there's nothing quite like the warm fuzzy feeling of seeing someone who's been struggling with a fight finally getting to watch their victory cutscene, knowing that you could be part of helping them get there.
