But my understanding wasn't that the banned player was just using a parser or ACT. Other posts about this make it seem as if he was using an add-on to call out mechanics. That is why his video was removed. Xeno and Arthar is streaming with ACT on screen and they have their accounts.
The funny thing about the add-on debate is for years many WoW players said that there was no way raids were being designed around Deadly Boss Mods and similar add-ons, but Ion (who basically designs raids) admits they do in his interview. He says they try to program things that DBM can't help with.
Totally agree. You already see some well known streamers "parsing" (see what I did there) this very letter and trying to find the loopholes, and I just shake my head.
I hate to say it but with SE basically not doing anything about the use of third party programs, it's just going to be an increasing arms race and has been for years. It's just ramped up in the last couple of years (for several reasons). I've been tracking/monitoring RMT marketboard and housing bots for about three years now, and lemme tell you, SE does 0 about them. So it's gotten to the point they've taken over the economy on every server. Only the recent introduction of the lotto and 30 FC master transfer changes have managed to stop housing botting. (RMTers continue of course, but you can't bot the lotto *yet*.)
Yoshi-P has always ask the community not to use them in multiple post. The blanket statement covering all 3-party mods is a very grey area, but there will be people that take things as far as they can and see what will happen. Like any situation that arises people will be made example of, and that's what happened here. The method in which it happened is rather annoying but at the same time what can you expect from people today. We're living in times where to make statements of what people don't like they review bomb it. It almost guarantees that this individual or individuals will be looked at. I've seen plenty of people stream them and always wonder why would you risk it and blatantly disregard what we have been told to be TOS. Regardless of your beliefs on the manner when you download any game there is a TOS that you agree to follow. Legally they are in the right to enforce it how they see fit even if they turn a blind eye to it for awhile eventually as I stated above someone will push it to see what will they do, and they make an example of someone. He streamed it that alone was enough evidence and those that brought light to him didn't not have the playbase in mind they did it to spite him and to see if and what SE would do. Personally I agree with Yoshi-P stating they don't want to know what people are doing on their pcs but it only takes a few to ruin it for everyone. I know a lot of mods are QoL, and SE needs to implement them if they are adamant about not wanting this stuff in the game.
TL;DR- You agree to follow the TOS when you download the game and not doing so and getting punished for not following said TOS is on you when Yoshi-P has ask you kindly not to. You know accountability for your actions.
Besides a personal DPS meter for Savages and Ultimates, there's no need for 3rd party tools in FFXIV at all and even that is up for debate
Even GShade is pointless, just turn up the contrast on your monitor, it's the same thing.
Truth is, most mods are for lazy people who can't be bothered to modify their HUD or pay attention to their abilities.
I hope the ban hammer is swift and just
This take is garbage. Discord is 3rd party. I guess we ban all discord using players. Most add-ons are for QoL. Like fixing 14’s trash HUD.
Agreed entirely.
Another thing to consider is that Square-Enix is a Japanese company. Japan is very different when it comes to the mindset on modding and copyright. As an example, it's illegal in Japan to mod your console, or even just to edit a save file. It's a country where the game experience you get is intended to be played as is. Modding games is generally legal to do, but outside of western games like Minecraft, it falls into the realm culturally of "but you can't do that".
On the copyright front, even taking a picture of your professors whiteboard will provoke a strong reaction, because the content on that board is considered copyrighted. That's the reason stuff like data mining is so strongly rejected by Square. The story spoilers are a big reason too, but the culture aspect is as big a reason, albeit an unspoken one. They want to present the content themselves, in the manner they choose. Data mining that content would be like sneaking into your professors office and snapping pictures of the upcoming lessons, and then sharing it with classmates. It's just viewed completely different than how the west views it. Over here it's an inconvenience that spoils stories and boss mechanics, over there it elicits a "they can't do that, that's ours" reaction.
They finished the fight but not only do they understand the mechanics perfectly (because they designed it) and they had perfect ping (because they play internally).
So you could easily say they have triggers and FFXIV Alexander installed. Hell, even better than triggers, because triggers are made by people that might not know everything about every mech.
Then ban the usage of Discord. Its a 3rd party program
Well said. I agree with every word.
This only affects streamers and content creaters. No one knows you're using third party tools unless you snitch on yourself.
But I do agree that some third party tools should not be banned, like chat bubbles. Also, discord is NOT a third party tool. Third party tools are add-ons that change the game like a dps meter or a big titty mod
So many people arguing like sulky little children "Then Discord should be banned, too!", as if addons and Discord are even remotely similar in purpose. Discord does not analyze FF14's network packages, it does not display internal FF14 information otherwise invisible to a normal, unmodded game session, it does not automate anything in the game (such as counting damage numbers or doing auto callouts), it is a completely separate program.
If it didn't need them we wouldn't use them.
The modder community creates what the gamer community needs and wants.
The graphics mods that make ffxiv look no longer as a 2010 game, for example
Can see a lot of angry people in this comment section. At the end of the day, use what you want, just don't open your mouth. Easy situation. Just cheats should be able to be caught.
This game is outright unplayable for many people without XIVAlex/Noclippy because of ping and the fact that this game was coded by interns on a lunch break. Not all of us are willing to clip GCDs 24/7 just trying to do a basic GNB rotation.
I agree. Final fantasy doesnt need addons, and if the devs do what 3rd party code interacting with thier game then thats thier prerogative
"Need" is totally subjective. Addons like DelvUI, help you track your buffs far better than the default systems in place. Materia UI make the UI look so clean. Do either of these give you an advantage, kinda, a clean UI with only what you need and easy to see rather than having to clutter up your screen with huge icons so you can see the timers in the Default UI. Addons like Cactbot, is essentially like having a good player in Discord with you making call-outs, which yes, you could say it is an advantage over PS4/5 players cause their VC options suck and can't have Addons. But, lets be honest, anyone using Discord, under this framework, should be banned. Any other VC app would qualify under those rules. Bottom line, SqEnix should have a program of developers to submit mods for approval. Yes there may be a ton sent in, but you could set a small team on it and let them work at their own pace. Once approved, they get a nice seal of approval.
The game is still alive and well due to mods. Besides the expansions, and the various time wasting fun things in the game, visual mods, market mods, etc. keep the game marching forward. G-Shade basically on every Streamer due to them using, and not updating, their shitty shaders etc.
Bottom line, I'll use my mods. I pay for the game, I play the game, my mods don't mess with anyone else, nor does it mess with SqEnix's servers. Mods are the lifeblood of PC gaming. Mods extend the life of many games like Skyrim. Prove me wrong.
I've yet to see a good answer for this, I can go and install a whole pile of mods from basic UI stuff to showing unintended data, to having mechanics called out for me etc. I will not get in trouble. Why? If they're only going to ban streamers or people who show videos, that's what 1% of the population if that? So 99% can break TOS all the time without repercussion. If they want people to not use mods, punish actual people using mods for using mods. The reason people use them is solely on square.
It needs Gshade, i think most people can agree.
FFXIV never did need third-party tools. The title of the video is all you need in order to realize that this is the correct take.
Good work, Bwana.
Yes. If you're streaming use game capture not screen capture. That way you won't stream your overlay.
Never used any. Only thing I use ingame that isn't in the original game is G.Shade.
These people need to take basic economics again because that tells you the distinction between a "want" and a "need." The act like addons are mandatory. Console player exist and, regardless of what an elitist has to say, we manage just fine in content. I made it post-endwalker WITHOUT materia (because I forgot), and I need glasses and had to manually adjust my hud. I'm still fine, I even plan on doing pandemonium savage and I have an fc willing to help me. It's called "adjusting." Just deal with it. Unless these people plan on working for CBU3, they don't set precedence over what the game should and shouldn't have. Yoshi-p is captain of this ship.
