I love Final Fantasy in general and i tried playing FFXIV many times (mostly because friends anoyed me into it), but for me its sadly one of the most anoyingly boring and tedious games i have played…
Here to be your first comment (likely of many) on the series that tells you stuff gets faster/better past level 50 and into the 1st expansion. Including the GCD as you mentioned @ 26:09. Well, the GCD itself doesn't really change, but you get access to skills and stuff that can be used off GCD, that you weave into your rotation, but also have animation time requirements (so you cant just spam them all or you lose efficiency/GCD uptime.) You picked marauder/warrior though, so as a tank class it'll still be quite slow compared to some of the DPS classes, but your gameplay post 50 will feel completely different to your gameplay before then
Tried out trial FF years ago and hated it it. Recently tried to download the trial again to see if I or the game changed enough that I would continue playing it but the server told me that my email was ineligible due to having played it about 10 years ago.
So seeing you playing it, I'm gonna have to say a big nope to playing FF. That combat is so cringe. The world looks dreadful. Maybe if I hadn't played WoW for years, FF would feel like a new experience but it looks like the same old thing.
Nice! A new sprout! (That's what we lovingly call new players in this game.) Always love seeing new blood in FF14, one of my two favourite MMOs. (The other being GW2).
One important note: all the quests with the simple yellow exclamation mark are very much optional and not at all required to level up. In fact, often times they take more time than they are worth in exp. Their purpose is to flesh out the worldbuilding. Only do them when you find a place so fascinating that you really want to learn more.
Otherwise just follow the main scenario quest (MSQ) as that is where most of the juicy content is unlocked and it gives more than enough xp to get to max level. In fact, it gives enough to level at least two jobs to max. You can have all jobs (classes) on a single character, btw. And you can freely switch between them outside of combat/instances.
If you want to unlock new jobs, keep an eye out for questmarkers with blue plusses. Those unlock new features, like the hairdresser, the casino, extra dungeons, crafting jobs, combat jobs and much more.
Welcome to FFXIV! The in-game tutorial pop-ups are a bit dated and basic, so if you want something a little more interesting to chew on for new players, you might enjoy looking up the official "FFXIV Starter Guide" here on Youtube – its cutely animated, voiced, and split up into 7 little parts (searching for it should give you the full playlist).
If you want something more technical, there's also JoCat's "Crap Guide to FFXIV" (another playlist – also makes for great react content) that covers in-depth the proper way to play every role and job – just be warned, some people say there are story spoilers in it… but it goes so fast and is full of memes left-and-right that you have to be looking reeeeeeaaaally closely to even notice any spoilers.. and even then, there is the argument that, without context, is it really a spoiler? You decide for yourself 🙂 Either way, hope you enjoy the game!
XI > XIV. 14 hasnt felt like a mmorpg since 2.x/3.x
I suggest checking out a ffxi private server replicating the 75 era.
Seriously… id rather play 1.x then any recent expansion yosheep puts out. Atleast he finally admitted to making the game lack any kind of stress for the past 10 years.
