I think what fails to be understood isn't that there's a lull for 5 weeks, but that because the content was so short for each patch, it feels like 2 lulls combined. Some could even argue 3.
Casual players are hungry, and they got a a few slices of cheese. Oh great, more single slices of cheese. lol
I would say yes, but the lack of content isn't the problem. It's the content. The design of content isn't for casual players. People like to talk about how by the time you reach Shadowbringers, it's no longer early game or whatever, but the rules of the game changed when they removed telegraphs from bosses. This is where they cemented themselves as no longer friendly to casual players. This is made worse by certain bosses whom it is impossible to figure out what's going on without trial and error.
The most casual friendly content has been the Manderville Weapons's first set. I haven't been subscribed in the last month, but I would argue things like the Ul'dah Underground (I forget the name of it at the moment) and the Myths of the Realm raids are not casual friendly.
It has casual and hardcore covered.. what it does not have is the in-between which last expansion was Bozja. What they need is sort of mid difficult content in the expansion zones. If I could have it my way I would have the game take the mob density and extra boss placemen/design of a Xenoblade game. The zones are under utilized.
theres so much old dungeons farms i wanna do before thinking the game is going bad tomestone from for over 11 years now SE needs to takes more risk
I think we can have some kind of medium between 1500 tomes and having to do 60 HW fates per weapon and 15 CT runs per weapon (or the bozja equivalent which was actually slower to do). I like the idea that we can do multiple kinds of content to complete the reclic, but i don't know how i feel about there being absolutely no content connected to the relic. It doesn't need to be something like bozja/eureka but I was kind of expecting something like books (but again not as bad as the books we have for ARR). I don't have much motivation to complete the relics now because they'll eventually be poetic currency and not the currency used for crafting materials.
Short answer: yes.
This is a great time for gathering and crafting. Too much was going on now, the last patch. This is a great time to take my time grab a chair and fish
"Just take a break" Is something im kind of tired of hearing.
Yes, you shouldnt keep playing if you're burned out, and taking breaks every now and then is good for you. However, i've been playing this game for close to 10 years now and i do take 1-2 month breaks after each major patch since shadowbringers, solely so i dont get burned out. Problem is, there isnt anything for me to do anymore, especially when most content nowadays (Ie. Relics, Island sanctuary and so on.) have no in depth content.
You dont "earn" the relics anymore, you just get them passively by doing other content. So basically, relics arent really seen as content anymore.
Im currently going for 5 completed runs of the new Deep Dungeon, which is fun. However, as soon as im done with my runs, im pretty sure im never gonna touch that content again.
So taking breaks aint gonna fix that issue. I could postpone the clears for another 2 months if i want the content to last longer, but that doesnt fix anything.
Lol no. The game is so casual now you don’t even have to grind for relic progression 🙄
This is the time frame where i usually catch up on other games like Guild Wars 2. Heck right now I am tryin out the Vanilla + WoW servers, and tried the WoW Classic Hard Core challenge. Hell the lack of grind for the relics makes me more excited for the Diablo IV Early Access Open Beta, and following Open Beta!
I think what we see here, is something similar to old school WoW mentality prior to the lawsuits, and back to back crap expacs. The players are so dedicated to playing that one mmo, that if there is nothing new to do in it, they complain, instead of going to find something else to play. This is just part of the normal cycle.
I don't want to pay subscription to just walk around. I need Harvest Moon and Skyrim/ESO housing type of content. I even get more content on Disney Dreamlight Valley than FF14.
The casual player? Hell no. As someone who's been playing since HW was released, the game has gotten MORE casual over the years. Honestly, I'm not opposed to it either. Some of the old content seemed extremely daunting to me back in the day but now I'm not afraid to jump into some things. Could be that I'm more experienced, could be that things have become a bit more welcoming.
EW has been nothing but casual content though. Island Sanctuary, a much easier 24-man series, relic weapons that can be finished in a day, easily obtained dyeable AF gear, PVP content that's quick and easy to understand compared to some of the other, older PVP modes. Deep Dungeon (until higher floors).
I honestly welcome majority of the changes personally. 🤷🏾♂️
I dropped the game due to having to pay $160 yearly for subs. Rather pay $80 bucks or so for D2 on a third party site for yearly dlc.
I am do the MSQ and once in a while do a dungeon/daily if I feel I should. The only reason I do not farm for better gear is I am a WOW broken player. I fear being kicked, mocked hated, called out for my DPS or heals or tanking. In WoW I would have an addon to help gage how well or poor I am doing. In FF14 I do no use any mods out fear getting caught and losing my 8 year old account. So, I practice before going into a dungeon/trial/raid and hope I am doing the right amount, read my spells to make sure I have them in order. It can take me 3 days to get myself psyched to go que up. I am casual out of fear that I won’t perform well. In WoW I could be top dps and get kicked for no reason. I am scarred for life. So when the patches come I am not geared at all and have to buy gear and a weapon, and spend anywhere from 100k to 500k just do the new trials/raids. It really sucks for me. Thank goodness I can play MB or I would not be at 90.
Casual is fun until you have to do content with real players. Old content does not bother me as much. My two cents on being a casual player.
This Is the main problem that everybody seems to ignore. 1) instead of 3 months se are having More than 4 each pacht, with 2 moths per .5. 2) the players ate tired of this switching one type of content for another each expansión cicle, we want all the previous ones but Also we want them to add More, this Is not an excuse anymore, CBU3 needs to expand
Im actually pleased theres less stuff out in this patch. More time to finish other games.
1500 tomes is not difficult, and there’s plenty of time between relic upgrades to get them for several jobs.
I consider myself casual. I do put some hours into the game, hours that would normally have been spent watching TV in the evenings , but I don’t raid nor have a static nor am I particularly interested in hardcore content. I think this game is perfectly suited to the casual player.
I just wanted a fate grind of shadowbringers zones so I could farm bicolors at the same time 🙁
I'll say I'm glad the new relic step is just 1500 Astronomy cause I stopped last expac's relic at the second step. After getting every single relic with poetics which was SO EASY, the effort spike of minimum 60 fates just killed em for me. Also, don't tell me "but you can get em in Bosja" Guess what? That was still a fate grind, and on top of that it could EASILY take more than 60 fates since they weren't a 100% drop rate.
Game has no content for anyone who does not care to do tome cap chores and seeks engaging gameplay beyond 1 hour on patch day.
I'm done playing Tome Fantasy XIV. I played from 1.0 Alpha and this game has turned into nothing more than a soul grinding "tome grind" to do anything in the game. I am a casual player, and the last thing I want to do is log into do some crafting and realize I need to run 10+ dungeons to get tomes to buy crafting mats. The last three times I've logged on over the past two months, I've stared at my character for a few minutes, then just logged back out.
You know game is lacking when patche drop and people tell you go take break because there is nothing in patch, and they can say go quit but having house tied to sup is saying otherwise.
You play game since release ultra casually you are considered veteran if you play current expansion 10/10..
More like they abandoned the more midcore to hardcore players
The amount of non-MSQ content in this game that is casual is staggering, and continues to be rolled out. I've been playing to a decade. I have omni-80 to do, I have relic quests, deep dungeons, sightseeing, etc. I know I'm a casual and have taken the past decade to take my time doing what I WANT to do. Too many people (both old and new) rush so much of this game, then back handedly will say there's nothing to do… when you've really rushed through/bought your way past so much content, min/maxed your way through content, and now they have nothing to do. Not saying y'all, but content creators also are to blame… "A Guide to Blah-Blah-Blah in the Minimal Amount of Time Possible" really isn't doing casual content any good, especially with those that came over from other games during the pandemic who just had to do all the things all at once like a speed run.
The design and concept of the Resistance Relics were by far the most enjoyable iteration of the relic questline. I would jump on another Bozja style area in a heartbeat. It had SO MUCH to offer. I honestly don't know how they can top it…
??? this entire game is casual aside from ultimate and maybe the last two savage fights WHAT is this VIDEO
I have no problem with the first two levels of the relic being easy. I have no idea why people want to be forced to play a game.
I'd have to say emphatically no. If I did Hunt Trains for a few days, I could be on my way to a half dozen relic weapons. They made it so much easier for casual players to grind out relics.
Still watching but I agree the game seems less casual focused sure the content is less time consuming but giving casual players 1/2 hours of game time every few months then it's pretty lame compared to how many hours the hardcore raisers get in comparison… I also feel if the advice is " to take a break" them something is wrong it's nice being able to take a break but I've been on a pretty much 2 month long break aside from logging in to keepy house and itching for more reasons to play the classes I like at 90
Why is this called "Did They Abandon the Casual Player" and immediately go into moaning about Yoshi P not shoveling enough skinner boxes?
I don't know why "Did they abandoned casual players" is a serious question, 95% of this community is casual, we don't have a grindy or competitive content because of the casual players…
I thought orange baldly man left ff14 to focus on his family when in reality he started playing some other game but now he’s magically back for some views? Cute.
There is always a grind in this game. Open up your achievement tab and pick a grind to start… Hell, most streamers haven't even done half the crap in this game, but do nothing but complain… LOL
Casual in FFXIV isn't the amount of hours they play, it's simply people who can't clear savage or ultimate. They haven't been abandoned, they have lots to do. 🙂
I have a house…I can never unsub unless I quit 14 for good. Its too awesome. A friend of mine who I forced to take money so they could buy one for themselves. That was a few of them.
If your getting bored, it sucks but go play something else. Its great for your head space.
I did raid, maps, ex trials for both current and shb, and deep dungeon.
All relics are 57000 tomestones for all 19. That's literally nothing. I know it's just stage 2, but compare that to the content we had for older relics. The game has become so casual, even most Casuals run out of things
Personally I just play other things during these times, then again I do raid casual and right now it is weekly clears and after that of to complain about how Wo Long is a stuttering mess on pc.
I do however understand those who only play FFXIV and want some more bang for their subbucks and they do have a right as customers to complain when they feel that the contentmeal the resturant FFXIV hands them is a little on the smaller side.
Eureka, Bozja, 50 relics,60 relics, 70 relics, 80 relics,90 relics, orthos, pvp pass to 30, do up my house, make gear for my friends which involves gathering
I'm a casual player that's my to do list currently so plenty to do
I’ve become a pretty casual player, I basically log in when I feel like leveling my side classes now. That’s my primary focus and trying to finish up my mentor requirements. I think there’s definitely enough things to do casually, and I haven’t even done all the different relic quests to do 😅
mounts, rewards, seasonal events, relic, deep dungeon are all lacking.., Yoshi has to fully come beck to FF14 after FF16
