This video took a little bit longer to make because there were bunch of stuff I re-recorded that I didn’t like. Keep in mind that not every Npc has been implemented.

I like both because I played FFXI for so long but ARR is certainly better lit and more colorful
compared to limsa, Gridania is suprisingly unchanged.I always thought "New" gridania was something that came with ARR, and old gridania was where things would be mostly unaltered
They need to bring back the bloom/lighting of the Carline Canopys stained glass windows of 1.0
duno why but overall i would have the 1.0 version of gridana back ……. it look more like a wood than it does now.
I love how much more rich the colors are in 1.0 compared to ARR. Hopefully we get some of that color back in the graphics update coming soon 🙂
Funny how the 1.0 lighting looks better in some ways (particularly interiors) but much worse in others. The lack of decent Ambient Occlusion is especially noticeable. Still, it's nice how vibrant things look.

btw, compared to Limsa or Uldah, Gridania has the most radical changes. Main aetheryte were moved from 1.0 original west side on tunnel, along with GC which was instanced back then, iirc located not far from old aetheryte location, amphitheater was located on end corner of northeast which as of 2.0 has the road leading to that blocked by debris, was explained how the place got totaled by Dalamud destructions. At least with 2.0 changes made those locations became way more closer to reach.
Too bad video cut short on the old amphitheater, at least could show how the size in comparison with current location, iirc old one kinda larger & felt like an actual one compared with current. At least decoration on current incarnations are much more.
Also as for general 1.0 knowledge, retainers also instanced at all main cities, hence why what y'all see from 2.0 was empty back then.
Last, iirc that abominable vase that has the same polygon count as npc also located inside carline canopys. lol
I kind of wish you showed on the map where things were moved. I played 1.0 Alpha into launch and for a while after (got legacy status) but I can't remember where some of the old locations like the Aetheryte plaza was. Was it in the long tunnels that functioned as hidden loading screens?
Edit OK so I'm not crazy. I was almost positive the A. Plaza was where the CNJ guild is now, and the original CNJ guild location isn't accessible.
edit 2 The route to the shops as you mention was longer in 1.0. This is because that route was a hidden loading screen. They used that trick in all the areas where you'd have a really long enclosed pathway. Everything behind you was unloading, and the place you were heading into was loading. Kind of like how a lot of games have slow moving sections where you have to squeeze into tight spaces while moving for a while. That's also a hidden loading screen. They just don't take you to another screen to do it. They only had hard loads between entirely different environments like Coerthas to Black Shroud. The stairs in Limsa also filled this purpose, While Ul'Dah was mostly indoors and had high walls, so they didn't need to hide as much. However, Thanalan had TONS of long winding passages, as did Black Shroud, and La Noscea had you pass through a lot of underground tunnels in spots. Though I still miss Cassiopia Hallow.
I really don't know why they changed the general "green tone" of the trees in 1.0 into the yellow-brown green-ish leaves we have now.
The 1.0 green leaves looked more dense and wood-like – so this is definitely the only change I dislike.
Man there's so much less shroud to the Black Shroud now. Like overall it's an important, but in 1.0 it really seems like there was way more forest cover over everything, that was great! Would be nice if they could bring that back. And make it more of a rich green everywhere like there was in 1.0 too.
1.0 is so green it looks like it would be radioactive lol
