FFXIV: ABC – A Beginner's Guide to DPS

ABC: Always Be Casting. The Ultimate Mantra to become a better player. Welcome to my lengthy Beginner’s Guide to all things a beginner will want to know! But don’t be afraid of the length, I cover a lot of topics you can implement now or later!

Here I will explain many topics that separate the good from the great DPS. Some topics more advanced than others, but topics you will still want to know and think about for later when you are ready. These topics almost all connect together with other ones.

Check the videos in the cards for more guide, and check for any other player suggestions in the comments below! Also, hope you like spite, because this video in specific is especially spite filled!

  1. You're talking about people with skill tho when it comes to doing things without healer or tanks. And from what I can tell, that's less than 10% of ffxiv players. So yeah nah, dps still replaceable than healers and tanks because most people are terrible at the game. A mediocre dps or even slightly bad dps is all too common. I agree tho, good players in the game are rare. But dps is definitely very replacable for normal content. I'd rather stick with a mediocre or slightly shit dps than an attitude. High end content, whole different story.

There are skills that are useless on healers so I'd imagine on occasion that may ring true in dps too…. I am getting more disappointed as I watch this… 1st it's your ranting then it's your 'please put everything on your hot bar'…. yeeesh

  2. 1:06:51 on the topic of this, i wonder how many of the player base clicks the icons and how many have them set to keybinds. most people i know that play this game use controller while i haven’t found many people who click like i do. another thing is, when i switched to the legacy control type (the one where the camera is mainly static) that 1000% changed my gameplay because i was able to actually run backwards. having a comfortable layout is super super important

  3. As Black Mage Main, I don't get it why so many of my kind are this stupid.

In high End Content, where survival is the top priority(as it should be in all situations), I find time to use Aetherial Manipulation to an Healer(when placing their Bubble and Place me Ley Lines on the Outline of the Bubble so I have an small Space to go when an AoE aims for the pile of People to move 2 steps to the left or right and avoid it

  4. 14:05 this is a thing that’s a bit bothersome on some jobs while playing with the Mixed or Toggle setting on the controller. With those settings, you’re limited to 32 quick buttons compared to 48, making jobs like SAM really hard to fit everything on the bars.

  5. I've played for a little more than 2 months now. 75% of all my time has been on AST. 10% on WHM to level up enough to play AST. 10% now has been Warrior. On the topic of DPS pulling more ads than you feel comfy with. Tanking is scary and I am still figuring out how to manage my Cooldowns. I usually only feel support and great tips. But yesterday I had a dude that kept pulling more ads ALL the time. So when I saw him run further to pull more, and I had literally no more cd's up, I turned my tank stance off. Yeah, a shit move. But no- I will not tank those ads. You pulled them. You tank. And he died. Then I turned my stance up again. My healer wrote " 🙂 " in the chat as he died. So I assume I wasn't the only one annoyed.

  6. I did put that comment down in the tank guide. I still think healers & tanks have more responisbillities, but I do think now that DPS might have a higher level responsibillities. Less in number, but I do see that for example failing a mechanic and dieing. Is worse for a DPS as it sharply lowers their job for a while. While healers and tanks can still function pretty well. Or how rotation & spell/skill stuff is more complex then for the other 2 roles. So I still think tanks & healers have more responsibillities (in number), but possibly less in depth. Although I do think the divide of the ammount (number) of responsibillities is lower then I intitially thought it was.

(Once again, I am not thinking lesser of any role. I don't even really have choosen one yet as a sprout still in second half of ARR. Nor do I think DPS is replacable. But I do think the ammount of responsibillities is different.)
