  1. If you love fishing in MMOs and nothing else, no one will have a problem if you use a story and level skip
Just be sure to get both because you'll need both to fish everywhere

  2. There is an ENTIRE ENDGAME for Fishing. It's mostly just filling out your fishing log, getting achievements, getting special items, and just learning how the system works as a whole. It takes a ton of stuff into consideration including your skill, special unlock books so you can catch certain fish, weather in the zone, time of day, the bait you're using, and in some rare cases it also requires you to catch certain fish in order before catching the special ones. I freakin' LOVE it.
You can even unlock a high end "Relic Weapon" for your fishing rod if you push to the late end game. 😁 It even has its own story quests in the game!

Healers – White Mage, Scholar, Astrologian (Heavensward), Sage (Endwalker)
Melee DPS – Monk, Dragoon, Ninja, Samurai (Stormblood), Reaper (Endwalker)
Ranged DPS – Bard, Machinist (Heavensward), Dancer (Stormblood)
Magic DPS – Black Mage, Summoner, Red Mage (Stormblood), Blue Mage (Stormblood)

  4. I stopped fishing in FF14 and haven't touched it in months. Only because I know that if I go down that rabbit hole AGAIN, I will never finish msq, and my raid team is waiting on me to reach endgame. Ocean fishing is like crack, man.

  5. You can actually consider like fishing, cooking etc like their own separate classes. They have their own like reputation grinds to get different stuff, epic class weapons. They level up just like a class, so you can be like a level 80 fisherman! It's very detailed 😀 And all of the crafting classes, you can make furniture etc. Depends how deep you wish to go

  6. Crendor, if you like normal fishing in XIV, wait until you unlock Big Fishing at level 50, along with collectibles, etc. Fishing has it's own end-game of super rare catches (specific time of day, specific weather conditions, etc). You can decorate yoru house with fish sketches, catch stuff and keep them in aquariums. They have their own quests and armor sets and legendary fishing rods. it's an extremely deep system.

  7. I haven't seen crendor in years (no offense man, just watched you as a teen and kinda changed my taste in content over the years, still glad your doing good though) and I'm shocked that you liked the fishing as much as you did. I too was shocked with how fun fishing is in the game, I've been playing since the relaunch (ARR) and returned in Stormblood because I wasn't digging the game back in 2013 either, but it hooked me in Stormblood. The lore really gets good after ARR and it got me the second time I tried the game. I agree that the fishing is so fun though, the first time I tried ocean fishing, it almost felt like a raid or something that you have to fish instead of fight.

  8. Glad you enjoy it, most of my FC mates say it's the most boring gatherer class, but I like it.
There's even sand fishing and sky fishing. Or catching a little fish, using that to catch a bigger fish, then casting that fish again to catch a giant fish. Idk, it's both relaxing as well as exciting.
I only got into gathering and crafting after doing most of the story, makes it easier to go to new areas or buy better gear when I need something.

  9. As someone who doesn't play WoW, it really looks like, from my perspective, that Blizzard really doesn't care about fun. They really only add into the game what they want to add and they expect the playerbase to just go along with it. Like a "We're happy with the game, why aren't you" kinda deal. So like you said about them adding in fun new fishing things before taking them away again, that really seems to hold true. Meanwhile in FFXIV, something usually gets tossed or reworked if it isn't fun. So it's more like "Our fans are happy with the game, so we're happy with it too." Anyway I don't want to just needlessly criticize WoW like I always do so I'll just say I'm happy you're at least enjoying the fishing in FFXIV!

  10. "This thing from <other game> would be cool in WoW" was basically why I left during Legion for FFXIV. This was just the case in SO MANY INSTANCES. The ability to change classes on the same character and player-owned housing, as well as an actual story (I didn't need to purchase books for) also helped seal the deal.

Fishing is very fun once you start getting to grips with the technical skills, but even before then it is really relaxing. And to answer your question, there's three total 'gathering' professions: fishing; mining and botany, as well eight crafting professions (Alchemist; Armoursmith; Blacksmith; Carpenter; Culinarian; Goldsmith; Leatherworker and Weaver.)

  11. its funny you mention the artifact gear fishing rod form WoW, because, thats what FFXIV has done for the recent expansion, you can get a like, staged upgrade fishing rod, its good

On my part I'm a ranged physical dps main but the option is out there to play everything so why not get a taste of everything right? Also having started as a physical ranged makes it very natural to try out other physical ranged as they basically have the same gear and almost exact same melds on top of playing similarly. And I started as a bard main so I had to look somewhere else HAH

I'm also a polycrafter and gatherer because the firmament grind made me fall in love with it and now I have a house so it's great to be able to make anything while still saving money
I also find that the community part pf crafting and gathering is just great, I'm just gonna miss the good vibes and the this fulfilling feeling of doing something so useful, consolidating and relaxing at the same time when I really won't have the time for it

All I'm really saying is I get bored easily so I need all of it

  13. I went super hard on fishing in XIV at the start of the pandemic and made it to 80 (cap) and fishing in this game might be the most engaging form of fishing in a video game short of a fishing sim.

  14. i dislike what they did to professions in bfa/slands — just made all old stuff obsolete. i haven't gotten into ffxiv fishing yet, just trying to finish msq before the expansion first. i did like bdo fishing too.
