FF14 Binding Coils of Bahamut T1-7, Housing Savage and Nightclubs – Part 16

FF14 Binding Coils of Bahamut – FF14 New Player First Impressions.
I’ve played WoW for over 15 years but given the state of WoW right now and the lack of content, some of my friends have convinced me to try FF14. So I wanted to document my FF14 first impressions, document my journey through FF14 and give my feedback along the way.

Throughout I will be comparing FF14 to WoW and references the differences between the two. Obviously, I do have some bias, but I will try and keep an open mind all the way.

This is part 16 of the series and there are lot of spoilers here so please be warned. Finally got to try Coils of Bahumet where we cleared up to T8, got introduced to the FF14 housing crisis and found an RP nightclub.

Also if you have any tips for new players in FF14 please let me as I’m probably making a lot of mistakes. I have made some progress on the FF14 MSQ but there are just so many distractions!

  1. My suggestion, if you want to get the most out of the coil raid, is to do it min ilvl or around the ilvl of when it came out. It won’t be as it use to be with all the new jobs and gameplay tweaks, but you’ll enjoy it. Also T7 is massively nerfed (Petrify was 30 seconds or so plus the giants use to one shot if they reached you) but glad you enjoyed it. Best is yet to come in the coil raid.

  2. I recently returned to FFXIV after burning out on it back before the first expansion was released and your videos, which I found pretty much accidentally in some blog talking about wow players moving to the game, saved me from a complete burnout. Ever since I started playing, I've just been pushing the main story with the mindset of "I want to get to the endgame to access all the cool shit!" and never really gave a chance to crafting and side stuff.

You earned a sub here and and a follow on Twitch!

  3. Well no wonder you melted the first several turns of Coils… looks like you had the echo (+30%, massive buff) so yeah, anything requiring actual understanding of the fights before Twintania is rendered a basic tank'n'spank. The part where you "just fight robots," for example, requires quite a bit more strategy than just slaughtering them all when the fight is at the "proper" difficulty level. I only say proper in that it sounds like you were seeking more of a challenge and were disappointed with how easy the pre-Twintania turns ended up.

I kind of wish the game had a midpoint between min ilvl/no echo and switching either one of those options off. The Coils is unrelentingly punishing for most groups at min ilvl with no echo because most people simply never ran the content at the absolute bare minimum ilvl. Wish there was an "average ilvl at the time" option or you could specify an ilvl. Something more akin to what the fights were like when they were new.

Of course, you can't really recreate that entirely as classes unlock abilities at different levels now and even simple things like AOEs are so different because now there's no TP, so physical classes can spam AOE forever, whereas before you'd run out of TP and managing that was a big deal.

I know you're not here to read paragraphs, so I'll just say I very much like your videos and hope to see more! Would definitely eventually like to see what you think of this content at maximum available difficulty. Even those snakes at the beginning can be quite the challenge.

  4. Congratulations, you now qualify for your Twisters PTSD Kupon and Shriek PTSD Kupon

You may redeem them whenever someone complains about a mechanic in any fight. There are more to come in the later fights, good luck

  5. It's a bit unfortunate that you did Palace before Tam Tara, since it continues the story of Tam Tara. Also, and I didn't see this on my first playthrough either – When you go and unlock Sastasha at lvl 15, Edda and her party are standing in front of the dungeon, and you can talk to them. The party harasses her because she didn't have enough money to buy more potions, and her fiance is actually a really big moron. It's quite sad.

  6. Pssst. Gold Saucer sells Odin's shield, Skjoldr, for 10k MGP if you want to match the weapon. Or if you want to look like you don't have a shield at all, The Emperor's New Shield for 100k.

  7. Yooo, those Turn 1-4 fights were only really hard back in the day because the highest item level you had was like 90 from Coil 1, but most people had gear that was around 70-85. Turn 4 would destroy raids because it was all about moving mobs into posistion and people hitting the right things at the right time.

Totally hit up Coil at minimum item level. It's a blast.

The King Mog fight is great. It was balls in 1.0.

  8. T5 was a nightmare for me tried to do it in DF or PF took about 226 times think i had 130 ilvl back when ARR was still new was a bit more difficult to get help and the community wasn't so positive even had a hard time getting help with GM's I never did like discord but it seems to help a lot.. Loved T7 i had to study it and we still wiped a lot until someone said "Turn off auto face target" it helped 100% for healers after that we beat it we had so many of those things froze had to be like 6 or 8 good times lol..

  11. Oh yeah the Odin name thing. The next time Odin spawns in the open world, he will have the name of whoever landed the finishing blow the last time he was up – in your video, you can see the name Ophilia Kynn on him. I've actually been Odin once, didn't see it myself but FC mates fighting him told me.

  12. There IS a Qarn hard mode! And it also has some relatively intricate mechanics, particularly the second boss IIRC. I don't think the stone head weights appear, but it's been a while since I did it. Definitely check out Wanderer's Palace Hard too, there's even more tonberry story! One of my favorite normal vs Hard differences is Sohm Al vs Sohm Al Hard: with Sohm Al, you're climbing the peak to ascend into the clouds, while in Hard, you start at the peak and descend into the bowels of the mountain. You literally run the dungeon backward, with new threats that could only show up BECAUSE you defeated the things that used to be there. It's great.

I saw that RDM armor. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it, as I'd argue it's one of the best-designed classes in the game right now. Grats on the house, by the way.

You're closing in on That Quest. I'm incredibly excited to see your response, because…yeah. You've liked what you've seen thus far. That Quest and then HW…I can't wait.

  13. Housing system will change in Endwalker, it will be a lottery system. You give your gil beforehand and have a chance in getting the house. If you get it you get notified, if you don't you get your Gil back.
Pretty good solution I guess. Theoretically at least. We have to see how it will be.

  14. I'm not sure if you've heard, but they're FINALLY changing up the housing system to have solo/FC wards, lottery wards, and one other thing I think (could be wrong on that last part tho)

  15. on the housing thing. yesterday was my birthday and yet i was sat there for 17 hours…. 17 HOURS…. trying to buy a house for my fc. i took one food break in the middle and a few bathroom breaks but the rest was consistent clicking. two houses got taken by someone else. two times someone just up and relocated their old house on the plot. another house the deval timer hit 0 despite being at its lowest price it could go…. and it added 6 hours on. that was the point i gave up and decided to go to sleep. its so bad… but luckily theyre updating the system when ishgard housing comes out.

  16. What I love about TamTara Hard Mode's story is how it brings together Edda's party, which most people miss is the adventures outside of Sashata (the first dungeon you do). When the GLD (Edda's lover) dies, the Archer leaves and joins the Scions but is killed when the Imperials ambush the Waking Sands. She is then reanimated and is one of the bosses in Hard Mode. The lalafell who gives you the quest & gets traumatized at the end was the 4th member of the party & was gonna be used by Edda as a new body for her love.

  17. Fun factoid: Twister was so hard in the original ARR that it was nerfed. IIRC the original version would kill you if you walked too far from the spawn point, so you had to walk away, then in a clockwise rotation. This was basically black magic because there are no visual indicators outside of the cast bar. The mechanic was nerfed after Order of the Blue Garter cleared T5.

  18. Synced lowest you to the max level you could do the content (i.e. if an instance has a level range of 200-210 it syncs you down to 210). If you want the original experience you don’t want synced you want min i level (the lowest accesible level to the content) and you want to silence the echo. Coils offers you an automatic 20% echo buff that increases your health, damage and healing by 20% which originally wasn’t there and later required several wipes to obtain.

  19. I think the reason you found Coil pretty easy is because you said you were synced, which likely means max ilvl. You also had the Echo buff which increases all of your health, healing, and damage. Your party also may have been more experienced which can help quite a bit. Not saying that to diminish you're experience, just that it's not representative of how hard they were at launch

  20. If you look closely, you can see Odin has the subtitle "Ophilia Kyrin" in the video. That's the name of the player who dealt the killing blow on Odin the last time he appeared on that world. You didn't get to see because you arrived late, but Odin actually uses that player's model as well, having sort of "siphoned" off a part of that player's soul to reincarnate.
