  1. For those wanting to try the game before committing to a purchase or subscription, there IS a content-generous free trial for the game! Of course, you need to be a subscribed player to join Free Companies, so you won't be able to join the Dantalus group while on the trial, but it should at least give you LOTS of time to figure out whether you like the game enough to pay money for it.

  2. Welcome to Eorzea Dan! hope you enjoy your stay. While you are scoping out the animation it might be worth encountering a certain Inspector Extraordinaire. He'll take a little work to get to but those quests show off the devs experimenting with the limits of the games character animation.

  3. Awe I am european and I do not want to relevel a character on US servers … I wish I could bring more people to play this game. It becomes so insanely good after 150 hours … sigh

  4. I have played the game before and it's a ton of fun, but unfortunately I cannot join in because my computer is old and hates me. Would recommend to anyone unsure about getting into an mmo though.

  5. One of my favorite animators/creators in one of my favorite games. Is this a dream?

First of all, very happy to see you're enjoying FFXIV, Dan! I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the animations for it, because I for one find the devs have invested a lot of creativity in making do with what is actually a relatively limited engine.

However, I suggest that you edit it into the description that new character creations are actually unavailable in Coeurl as of the date this video was uploaded! This means the server is congested and currently limited characters are allowed creation or transfer.

I have a character in Crystal (albeit in another server). Hope to be seeing you around in game!

  6. Okay okay, one big note.

You absolutely must MUST play the Hildibrand quests, and especially the Heavensward line. Because that is their animation team unleashed to hysterical results.

  7. I’m over in Leviathan so I won’t be able to join y’all (and I’m already in my friends’ FC anyway lmao oop), but I hope you and the rest of the newbies have a bunch of fun! 😀

  8. I tried…
    But no.
I think I made my way through ARR well, at least I am right before Garuda. Sadly, I paid for the playtime.
I have a LOT of issues with the game. What do you mean I have an icon that shows I am new so that veterans will try to avoid you?
What do you mean the quests are all boring "get to the questmarker tasks".
The story of ARR was pretty decent so far but overstayed it's welcome by thinly stretching itself across the entirety of Russia. (Mostly an uninhabited drab landscape) Seriously… Talk to this person, talk to that person, grab X and talk to this one or that one again.

I was lured into this game by sooooooooo many people saying how amazing it was, how amazing the community was, and they also said other MMOs were garage.
Let me fucking tell you about how the roulette system is bad. I just wanted to watch the cutscenes before the bossfights. The rest of my party just went ahead and killed the boss without me. This happened a couple of times. Or how my party just left me behind when I was new to a dungeon.
I was told that sprouts would get help from veterans all around. I only got FC spam ads. And besides that, the game clearly takes inspiration from other MMO's like the devs stated. Which is coincidentally the only fun thing I found in ARR: crafting. Taken from RS and expanded upon with abilities.
    But the rest?
Area's: drab, too empty, too meaningless.
Quests: Not quests at all in my book, Just tasks. Quest are supposed to be adventures, not GeT tO ThE MaRKeR.
Community: same as everywhere except they seem to want to hide the bad parts of the game to the outside world.
Gameplay: meh. So far in ARR it was kinda boring. The targeting system fucking sucks donkeybutt on controller.
Oh, and what is up with these data centers? If a game from bloody 2001 can have you log into any world and any server what the fuck is going on? And why are there long ass loading screens? There is fucking nothing going on in the environment that's even remotely interesting. Oh and the races mean absolutely nothing. Meaningless besides the visual aspect. Sure, it's fun to pretend you are a garden gnome when playing a potatofell. But all in all it is meaningless.

Sorry for barging on your parade. There have been a couple of REALLY toxic FF14 players that would make fun of me and my friend in a discord server I am in. So every time I see something related to this game I feel the need to take a dump all over it. And at least I played most of ARR so I can legally shit on that part of the game and my experience with it.
Some people may like the game but I find it uninspired, with a ton of bad systems to keep player retention. Roulettes are bad because they incentivice experienced players to redo dungeons they don't like so they just rush for the xp which can ruin new players experience depending on the player. Certainly did for me. The data center is just bullshit, as proven by RS. The targeting on a controller is pretty awful. I have heard more experienced players complain that that was the most difficult part about the gameplay. The sprout system just points out that you are in fact a noob. Very condescending if you ask me.
The loot is boring. Just armors that look alike but with different stats. The menu's have weird layouts. Why are particle effects under the character configurations instead of under effects?

At this point I cannot really take the game seriously. Maybe that would change with the expansions, but if you need to get through the ton of drab bullshit that is ARR (and this is after that patch that already cut out a lot) then is it even worth playing?
For me, a single player guy with social and performance anxiety, it might not be.
Is it more fun with friends? Certainly, but does that make the game good? No.
Clearly, this isn't a game for me. All I would do is ignore the dragged out story (FUCK COERTHAS, just nuke that entire place) and just craft stuff to sell on the market.

Alright, positive vibes only now. I like the housing and the people that just sit around roleplaying. That's the best part from what I have seen. The game gives you a lot of expressive freedom.

Feel free to just delete this comment, like happened with my other comments containing my raw opinion on FF14. I'm used to being silenced by part of that community.

  9. Please analyze how Lalafell's hands clip through their head when using the teleport animation. One of the most used animations in the game, and an entire races hand just… Clips RIGHT through their head. Hope you have fun in Eorzea though!!

  10. Welcome to FFXIV! Sad you're not on Primal, but they're opening cross data center play with Endwalker. I second on the Hildibrand quests when you hit 50, though. You get the arguably best dance emote in the game and the cut scene animations are all hilariously exaggerated.

  11. Damn, now I can't wait for the ability to visit other data centers. I am on Aether and am looking forward to coming to your free company house when you get one (if you don't have one already).
