  1. If anyone is interested in a little more detail, a channel named Speakers Network has a video series in a playlist called "The Fall and Rise of Final Fantasy XIV".

Goes into a bit of detail about the how and why of FFXIV's failure and relaunch

  2. There were some things I liked about 1.0, but in the end it was just bad. I wonder what SE next MMO will be like if they ever make one.

  3. This video is fucking hilarious hahahah

"Where is this game you want me to fix? Is it like Dragon Quest…? Oh…"
"Can you please let me burn this game?"

  4. FFXIV 1.0 was god awful. So much was missed in this video, maybe in that scrolling text. I was so pumped for it, but there was a lot of ability lag, no story, nothing in the zones. Quests were just Leves you could do, and you had a few a day because they were on a timer. I think I played it for like 4 days before abandoning it.

I was surprised when 2.0 version was announced and realized they were still updating 1.0. It was hope, that has grown and now is spread throughout all of Eorzea!

  5. I actually liked the 2010 Version too. Still got my Collectors Edition here. Good times, fighting for all the little resources and grinding like mad, running around alot getting a one of the few quests done. But yeah it was bad compared A Real Reborn, now this was really for everyone.

  6. Sometimes I feel like Yoshi was just the random guy in cubicle 3 who didn't run away fast enough when SE went looking for some fool to take it all over and take the fall. Nobody expected him to succeed, but they accidentally drew a winning hand with him, and everything we got is a result of this guy having no idea what was being handed to him and so… not being stuck in the same mindset as all the other fools.

  7. Japan devs: I’ve made a mistake. I have brought shamed to my family and disgraced my ancestors. It is time for seppuku.

Western devs: I want a fucking scapegoat’s head delivered to my doorstep yesterday.

  8. FFXI was sucessfull game, but far from perfect. Like example, for pretty long time game didnt support mouse and keyboard control scheme…
I got used to it, using my keyboard as big gamepad with keyboard on it was actually pretty comfortable, but obviously if you want score on PC market you need controls supporting it. That game needed lots of dedication and patience to overcome flaws it had. It was part of charm, but what players could forgive XI wasnt acceptable in XIV anymore.

  9. All of you thinking WOW should rebuild are dumb. I ain't losing my transmogs and mounts because you losers can't stop whining. Maybe grind more and whine less, it's not my fault you're too lazy to get good loot.

  10. I was there for 1.0. I bought the Collector's Edition of the game. They promised to provide players who subscribed for two months or more in the original 1.0 version of the game a 50 percent cut off their subscription costs for 2.0. I only subscribed for a month, and played for less than a week. Every bad thing you've ever heard about 1.0 is true.

  11. FFxiv 1.0 was the one and only collector's edition I've ever bought of a game and it immediately affirmed why I don't spend money on collector's editions. Of course they redeemed themselves with 2.0 but the damage has been done.

  13. Square has a habit of pushing the boundaries, royally screwing up, nearly destroying their company, making a last ditch effort to save everything, coming out of it, and later reincorporating the screw up back into the game. FFxiv is one example, their movie studio is another. Now XIV is the hottest name in MMO, and all of their single player games have 20 hours of cutscenes. So a 50% success rate as far as I’m concerned.

  14. FF XIV: Starts out as a corporate madhouse that only cares about making money with a complete lack of concern for quality or player enjoyment.
Hires a team of gamers who want to make a game they would enjoy playing and create a story they want to share with other people.
