  1. People who are against "sexualizing" female characters are the same ones whining about representation within their games.

We are playing a game with catgirls, giants, and potatoes with legs. We aren't playing this game so that our real selves can be represented. We are playing this game to get AWAY from real life. That's what gaming is all about. As far as I'm concerned, the less me and my life are represented in the games I play the better, and I think more people should think that way.

Also, Men can run around shirtless but that's not considered "sexualizing the men".

  2. I'm a girl playing a handsome male character. I see nothing wrong with female chars, they're cute. What do these twitter triggered people want? They want all female chars to look like ogres or something?

  3. In many other games, "The girls are the ones playing the characters" would not hold water. But FFXIV actually has a large population of female players compared to most other MMOs.

  6. I mean the way I look at it, its their character, they can do as they please so long as it does not violate ToS… and let's face it… cat girls and playboy bunnies are fucking hot.

  7. My take has always been "It's bad when people are forced into a choice"
If a game only has skimpy girls in revealing clothing, then I draw issue. If a game only has buff white dudes in beefy armor, then I draw issue.
But those as choices isn't a bad thing. It's only when people are forced into that customization (in social games especially) that is where the issue lies in a lot of games imo.
FFXIV isnt absolved of issues like this entirely, where some clothing options are genderlocked, or the female version is a bit more revealing or shows the face where the male counterpart doesnt, but it isn't nearly as bad as some games, and the agency each player has is great overall.

  8. Woman wears bikini in media “OMG objectification”

Man takes of shirt to show off the results of all the anavar and Tren bologna sandwiches he’s been eating “that’s not objectification he’s just trying to cool down”

  10. Nah it's stupid in both directions. The whole game looks stupid, inconsistent and illogical in everything. All these asia mmorpgs do. They are like a trash dump in which they throw everything into that come's to their mind before they mix it.
I like many of the game's aspects but that's not one of them nor do i have to desperately find reason's why everything is okay now or doesn't matter.

  11. Someone once described the difference between female and male projection (not sure if that's actually the right word) like this:
When boys play with Batman, they want to be Batman.
When girls play with Barbie, they want Barbie to be them.

That's why you only ever see women and Twitter feminist men complain about how other women look.

  12. Someone else put it as "allowing them to be hot" and not "forcing them to be hot." I myself make my female character wear modest clothing, but power to the girls who wear the skimpy armor, we love to see it.
