  1. Been a few weeks since the last one, so here's 6 MORE wholesome/epic/happy features in FFXIV that've made me smile lately! What'd I miss?! Now's the time to sound off, as this is probably my last video on the topic 😁

  2. One of my faovirte things is that the game has a main character cast that it carries forward each expansion, so that you can actually see their character arcs develop with the story and actually have the time with them you need to care about them, as opposed to something like say wow… where they change which side character they want helping you and you have to just infer what's happened between now and the last time they were a main character leading to them feeling really inconsistent unless you've read peripheral material.

  3. I've been playing the game since 2.0 came out, and I think my favorite feature is just how much work the Dev team puts into implementing QoL improvements overall. Because they're committed to giving players across platforms a consistent experience, over time they've mostly negated the need for add-ons entirely (aside from a raw damage parser, which they've said they'd never implement in game). If you're just jumping into the game now, it's really easy to take for granted stuff that older players had to suffer without (boss hp % for example), and I personally like that.

  4. One of my favorites aspects of the game is the world feeling alive and the people in it reacting to events and your own progress as a WoL. After you slay a bunch of primals people respect you and enemies fear you. When I first started playing, the moment this really hit is when I was trying to unlock a new class and the trainer said something along the lines of being honored to have me and that they were sure I would have no trouble being great at it. That really just blew me away.

  5. The story in heavensward evolves sooo much. I finished ARR last week and have been going through Heavensward. The ARR story didnt entice me too much, but heavensward is getting sooo good in terms of dialogue and quality! You're gonna love it cob 😀

  6. You could do something like 5 characters you want to love and 5 characters that you hate/apathetic towards. I'd doubt you'd get much hate if you framed it that way and talked about a character you love first. Most people tend not to get pissy (except the crazies) if you say something nice about the thing they love and connect with first, then go into the criticisms, etc.

  7. If I have any advice for a new FFXIV player this is it: Talk to the NPCs even if they don't have a quest marker over their heads. If I have more advice? Look at the flavor text for items. The team slips some pretty funny material in there, and sometimes you'll even learn a thing or two about the real world. I never knew of macuahuitls (obsidian-bladed wooden swords) or shakshouka (poached egg in a spiced tomato sauce) before FFXIV. Actually made the latter (and loved it). Culinarian is my favorite crafting job because I love foodie stuff in general — and there are many many real-world dishes reflected in FFXIV's list.

  8. It feels my heart with joy to see that the game I have fallen in love with 7 years ago is getting this much recognition now. It has been great for a long time and it's time it gets its time in the spotlight.

  9. You get experience bonus accumulated by resting in safe zone(sanctuary, usually around aerythes outside and anywhere inside cities). Even if you log off, you're still getting it.
You'll get even more, if you go to any Inn room and use bed to exit the game.

  10. This is a very minor spoiler but on the topic of talking to npc's, there is a party of adventurers you met after completing the first dungeon. A Roe named something Bear and two party members. You encounter them again at the second dungeon but after that you stop seeing them. For the longest time I did know why but after a new playthrough I talked to one of the npc's outside the third dungeon and you learn that they were killed. It's implied that they were tying to complete the job before you which led to them making rash decisions.

  11. The day/night cycles are tied to the in world time, which is a function of real world time.

I can’t remember off the top my head but I believe 124 hour cycle in game is equivalent to one real world hour. It always goes night time with a thin change at 6 PM game time and the daytime theme/sunrise at 6 AM in game. Obviously different weather conditions like fog or rain or thunderstorms or wind will change the overall work, but for the most part that’s typically the way things work.

Also I don’t wanna spoil things for you like during like the winter time they modify the server to where it doesn’t rain, it’ll snow.

  12. In addition to the weather dynamics in the over world. There are many dungeons that are affected by the weather in the zone. So like if it's night in Thanalan and you go into a dungeon where you can see outside it will be night in the dungeon.

  13. Nice to see you enjoyng the game! It's such a small thing, but I really love the way your character can leave footprints in like the snow or something and then they'll slowly fade. I'm always jumping in water at my fc house and tracking little wet footprints on the wood floors. And after three years playing this game I'm still so fascianted by those little details.

  14. I'll played evern numbered ff, not in order as some came out in the US after 7. I played 1 originally in college during the 90s. As I grew older I knee of only one other fan, my daughter. Still is that way IRL but I met a lot of fans online.
