  1. Thank you, this was very educational. While it sounds logical to name a Mechanic after its first iteration, it still feels so very silly. Like I am pretty sure more people know what a Donut is than having seen Dynamo from Nael herself

After finishing the whole video 2 other mechanics that i have been seeing more frequently, especially as a endwalker new FF player was the concepts of "Mario Cart" type movements or "Playstation Symbol" Pairrings. While these Names definatelly dont sound as epic as actually refering to an Iconic Boss Fight Mechanic, i still think it is terms people go like "yes … and?" at first glance when hearing it. Cheers, the video was great and mentioning the specific fights/origins is interesting for sure for players that werent around at the time. Good job as always. xoxo

  3. I hate then people say limit cut for every ball mechanic, its not a limit cut its flood ray, or levinstrike ect. Protean is another overly used term.

  4. I always thought chariot was a line attack. You know, because a chariot moves in a straight line.
    Anyway, the point is if you are trying to learn what these things mean dont try to think of them logically because these names make no actual sense and it will just end up being confusing.

  5. I've been raiding since the beginning in 2013. And my static since 2014. We all use these terms frequently. If you raid long enough like veterans, you notice they recycle these mechanics. If you've ever wondered how some group clear the raid so quickly, using terms like this help immensely.

  6. A kinda Enumeration-like mechanic is in one of the Endwalker trials. The markers are not on a person but on two meteors. Someone is marked as a pushback and the rest of the party has to get pushed back so the meteors have the right amount of people in them.

  7. I don't mind most of the names, a lot of them are either semi-explanatory at a minimum or very FF14-esque. The two I hate are chariot and dynamo, those are just dumb jargon gibberish that have easily replaceable options (ie circle/donut) that any MMO player would understand. At least something like "Wild Charge" mostly describes the style of the attack, if not the exact mechs, you can guess what it means.

  8. its important to note that Enumeration for Swindler, the number of players in the aoe have to be exact, no more or no less. Although SE broke away from that and its just # of players or more.

  9. Surprised that T7 Shriek and Voice did were not in this video. Well Shriek at least not being in the video as there are quite a few fights where you had to look away from a party member, but only P6 comes to mind for any mechanic similar to cursed voice.

  10. Exaflares did not originate in ucob, but actually in the fight that unlocks ucob, omega 4 savage.

    hotwing/hot tail did appear in nidhogg normal, but they had the orange aoe indicators on the floor, since this is casual content. the indicators were removed for EX.

    proximity damage indicators were first seen in the Ultima weapon fight in Praetorium, i believe? the airships crashing into the sides of the arena. Flarebuster markers were first seen in o4s.

  11. I understand some mech names but dynamo, chariot and protean are pretty idiotic imo
    … saying donut/circle/pizza literally solves the mechanic instead of making people have to associate a mech with another mech that most people at this point have never seen.

  12. UHM AKSHUALLY! Exaflare originated in Deltascape v4 savage as Emptiness, but technically you could say even sooner the first boss of doma castle uses the very first exaflares albeit with telegraphs. But since Exaflare as a name has gotten reused so much, and I guess its literally illegal for CBU3 to create a final boss without Exaflares, thats what stuck.

    Also the flare marker on players originated with Cruise chaser's GA100, But Exdeath in deltascape v4 was a more notorious use, hence why we call them "Flare markers" now

    And lastly, a reoccurring mechanic that is important to know about is "White Hole" and its antithesis "Charybdis". White hole is a mechanic where a player needs to be full HP before something happens or theyll be instantly killed, turned to stone, or rendered incurable and other bad things etc. The name comes from Exdeath in Deltascape v4 savage as its the name of the cast players needed to be max HP for, However I believe the earliest iteration is from Midas savage during Winged Justice's Gavel. A selected player needed to be max HP before and remain full when Gavel finishes casting, But its has shown up again and again under various names mostly as a Doom requiring full HP. Heartless archangel (God Kefka), The Accretion debuff (O9s Chaos), Thunder god Cidolfus has one, Seat of Sacrifice has one, Phoinix has one, P8s phase 2 has one right before the final transition, and even some uncleansable dooms encountered randomly or in dungeons will fall off when healed to full (Last boss of The Dead Ends for example). Usually this is coupled with a "Charybdis" mechanic, something that sets your HP to a value of 1 or 1%. Charybdis is just the name of a specific aoe that does this, a classic Final Fantasy-ism, but it can also include things like Tail Screw, The infamous "math section" of Construct 7, or debuffs like Beyond Death which force you to purposefully die to a mechanic and be left at 1% HP

  13. 11:00 Flare the name comes from O4, exdeath. But the first actual fight that had the flare mechanic though was A11, but there it was called "GA-100" so nobody wanted to use that name.

  14. I’ve been mistaking a Nisi for a different mechanic for the longest time, only to just now understand it’s the same as how Rot works in the Omega Protocol. It’s like entering enlightenment

  15. Divebombs originated from Twintania; Turn 5 of BCoB

    Proteans hit twice in the savage version with the same "bait first hit, dodge second" that flamethrower uses.

    Enumeration also somewhat existed in a much worse version in the form of Ballistic Missle in BcT8. Players targeted by it would get locked into place and have a number of rings around them indicating how many players needed to soak it. Because you got stuck in place, and usually stacked until the mechanic started, the rings would often overlap, causing players to have to be in one ring but not the other by standing on the very edge. It was much more of a pain in the ass and I'm glad they simplified it.

    I think Flares came from Ultima's Bane? It came out in 2.1, Garlean ships would fall from the sky and land in parts of the arena. Either way, one of the oldest mechanics 🙂

    Witnessing Akh Morn when it first released with Bahamut was insane. In an age when mechanics were still being developed, seeing the boss call down a giant beam of light over and over shaking your screen every time while your healers struggled to keep up was terrifying. Crazy that it's so common place now.

  16. to each their own but dynamo/chariot is still the stupidest way to explain mechanics lol not only is it a mouthful and hard to remember, it's completely counterintuitive when learning mechs. like if you need to explain things to a new player they obviously won't know what those are or what they represent, you know, because they're new 🙄 it's fitting for coils, nothing else. this part of FF vocabulary just needs to die.
