  1. Can’t believe that Zep has to talk about this.
It’s not that difficult to understand that people just like different things and that we don’t have to like the same thing for it to be good. 🫠

  2. Skipping the end of Stormblood and watching post patch crap in the inn was the best thing i ever did. My only regret is that I waited so long. Currently working thru shadow bringers and loving every second of the story. I kinda wish I skipped the post arr stuff as well.
If something is unenjoyable don't force yourself to like it.

  3. Tbh "skippers" are just attention seekers, only reason someone makes a big number about it is to take a shit on the story/ff franchise. I know a few who did but who never felt the need to try to get others to skip too and stayed quiet about it 😀 just enjoy the game guys, story or no

  4. The people who care about others who skip need to touch grass. Let them play the game how they want to play. If they complain about how bad the story is, or not understanding what is going on, everyone knows the reason and the only clown is the one complaining. You don't need to take up the mantle and fight for others to do content they otherwise don't care about or don't have interest in. Taking the time to argue with others who made that decision just casts a bad light on the playerbase that can already be obnoxious as hell, especially MSQ vampires. If they learn later that they like it (think of Jeathe for example – but I know of many personally who have gone back), then they will go through the story on their own. I have a friend who has been struggling to get through the game and I have thought about how she would probably enjoy it much more if she skipped ARR and HW in particular.

  5. A lot of players are adults with limited time to play(like myself). They want to enjoy the mechanics and play with friends without dropping hours on what is practically several movies worth of content. The story is great but not everyone plays games for story. People need to chill.

  6. I definitely felt a bit brushed over for not liking Endwalker as much as most people. I still personally think ShB is the best expansion, but I did like Endwalker overall. I struggled really hard with getting through ARR too, and found myself not skipping, but skimming through a lot of it. Sure, there's a lot that I probably missed and may have caused confusion or misunderstandings later, but I know being forced to be super invested at that point in the story would have caused me to just leave the game. I grew to love it over time, and have now been enjoying going back to ARR and learning more about the worldbuilding by doing all of the side quests in each region and city. I started by skimming most things, and now have delved in, bought and begun reading the encyclopedias, and done the all of the side quests in Heavensward, Stormblood, and am working on ARR.

  7. I find it ironic how the last year has shown just how toxic FF14 Community is. It is just so ironic. Over and over and over again, I understand if they skip and say story is bad. But some people just want to play the game. They don't and never will enjoy or care about the story. If people want to prove that FF14 community is best, start proving it, because it is quickly becoming one of the worst

  8. I remember getting flamed on in Facebook once because I voiced out that I wish Swuidgame focused more on the deadly games and less on the human element/character backstory.

There will always be fanatical zealots, and they think what they have is a good thing

  9. only time I bought a skip was on my alt to get one job to 80 to unlock other jobs locked behind levels 😀 even though I've played the msq to a bit into EW, I won't skip the story because I don't mind replaying it haha xd

  10. Tbf ARR’s story was so dull that I skipped/skimmed over it. However once I started the patches the story picked up, and I payed attention to everything that followed. Everything story-wise from 2.1 to 6.0 had me completely invested

  11. The "rush to endgame" mentality could also be a result advertising pressure from other games.

Other MMOs or live services advertise their skips in their storefronts. The game I'm playing on my main monitor right now, GW2 usually tries to remind me once a week next to my daily login bonus notification to purchase the newest expansion (technically the Collection Standard which includes all three expansions, but I only own the first expansion from way back when) while also advertising a "free" level 80 boost (max level). I'll admit I'll eventually buy it when I actually CATCH UP to that content (currently in post Core story, so I'll buy it when I beat HoT since I already own that expansion) and save the boost for a future alt character.

These skips including FFXIV's don't try to dissuade potential customers in the descriptions by stating something like "you shouldn't buy this if you're brand new" because that would be bad for business. Instead they boast the incentives of all the cool stuff you'll have access to instantly.

There's also games that are being designed around having only the newest content being relevant with things like Battle Passes or content rotations like seasons, and other FOMO systems that try to get as much time or money out of players; often making skips look that much more appealing.

  12. They can just classify all the old content as 'legacy', and have it all automatically unlocked, while pressing forwards with the new stuff. If they want, new players can experience the old story through new game plus. But having a new common starting point will be necessary.

  13. I will always condemn this sort of harassment. If you're not haven fun then skip. Would rather you were able to find another reason to stick around. Instead, we should encourage skippers to grab some popcorn and watch through the cutscenes in the journal. Takes much less time and gives all the context they really need.

  14. I am a story skipper in parts and i thoroughly detest story/spoiler andys, which 95% of my 500 members FC is. I will watch the parts that interest me, (maybe 60-70%) but when a cutscene gets way too long, drifts or is useless (beast tribes, crafting), it's gone. Especially since i found the new game plus mode to redo things if i feel i missed something important. I caused a massive uproars bitching about being forced to do the Hildi side content for the new relics, as i don't like that humor and power skipping thru it. Even in movies if a part is boring, i'll skip ahead a few minutes to the next scene. I still know the general story, ally and enemies and that's sufficient enough. Voice acted cutscenes helps a lot too. And also, i hate the toxic anti spoilers. I will not say anything the first month or 2, but don't start bitching about me naming manes and events from 6-10 years ago. Everyone can play the way they want. People may say it's not a MMo, it's an RPG so read story, but at it's core, it's a game first and foremost.

  15. Buying a story skip is the same as insisting on purchasing a movie ticket for the last 30 minutes of a movie running instead of waiting the two hours to see it from the begining. Its a waste of money and in the end all you'll be doing is slinking onto reddit to complain about something you never watched. There's other MMOs and you do not need to follow your friends to play a game that you may not like. MMO's are in some sense a minor investment, both in time, money and resources. Playing what you may think is a fad is the worst way to spend one's money. In the end one person needs to ask themselves "Am I going to like this game?" "Will it be worth it". This is why the free trial exists and its by far the best free trial on the market. You can play up to level 60 and decided if you want to fork over the money for the license. Other MMO's only allow 24 hours or up to level 20, and while some things are blocked to you at least take advantage of what it has to offer before diving in.

  16. Honestly here is my opinion. I think FFXIV is the greatest MMO ever made. It does everything right. Good Story, Good Content, Good Devs & content is released in a reasonable to frame to keep people playing! So it caters to a lot of people with varying play style, from Casual-Hardcore. BUT, Everybody plays MMO's for different reasons.

I myself, do not care about anything other then group content, in whatever that may be, Weather it's a Trial or Ultimate. If it involves doing stuff with other people and using discord and being social, I'm all for it! Yeah I played the story and it was good, But I don't want to read all these little chat boxes that ARR had, or most cut scenes have in them. It makes me lose interest. Hence why I'm not interested.

But I wouldn't ever bully somebody for watching a cut scene, or getting interested in story content… Whatever floats your boat!

Just remember, People are paying money to play a game and do whatever they want to do… If they want to skip every bit of story and do raids with their mates. Shut up and let them, your opinion of them does not matter… And it goes both ways…

Anyway, I said my piece, Just be kind and decent to each other…

  17. skipped the story, boosted multiple jobs and still cleared three ultimates on 5 different jobs and tons of savage, it literally does not matter to be good at the game

Another problem is the fact that the story is completely single player so it’s basically invisible to other players in the game, it doesn’t affect anyone but you so it’s just a lone wolf time sink

  18. Lmao i skipped like almost all cutscenes in middle of ARR and post ARR patch. Didn't start caring about the story or characters til the banquet at the end of it

Even skipped a lot of early SB and EW just because I found it super tedious

If I wanted to know something or learn what I missed out, I'd just google it

  19. I get that someone hates the story. I'm allowed to dislike things that other people love as well. But don't get all huffy when you insult the things people love and they dare to talk back to you.

  20. i am a story skippedr and yeah, i've been harrassed multiple times for it, even in novice chat when i was asking for something i didnt knew. I never said story was bad or anithing i just didnt want to grind it i just wanted to play endwalker (my first exp in FFXIV) asap and gent into raid as fast as possible. Thats what i enjoy and i dont know why people have to be so toxic about it. The story might be awesome never doubt but its not a content i enjoy thats all

  21. I story skipped from mid-HW to EW so I could play with my friends when it dropped, and I didn’t mind, I kinda wish I played through the story but I also wanted to run current content with my friends.
So a lot of the major story beats and callbacks were lost on me and I had to ask them about it constantly. But overall I enjoyed the gameplay loop over the story. And I still know next to nothing about ShB, like the story is good and enjoyable (from what I’ve seen), but I’ve skipped a few books in the series and come back to them every now and then, sure I already get to know some of the plot twists or end results and that means I don’t get to experience to story the same way as everyone else, but I’m still reaching the same end as everyone and can join in a conversation regardless.
Although it does suck having to run back and unlock all the raids/content in MSQ, most of the time when we are running raids/trials I don’t have 90% of them and they have to wait on me to unlock it.

  22. Of course everyone should be allowed to enjoy the game as they wish. But deep down inside, secretly we all know there's a special place in gamer hell for story skippers. >.>

  23. There isn't as much that's important to FF's story in ARR as people say there is. Outside of a few key cut scenes and a handful of character introductions, a lot of it is inessential. After 2.0 I quit the game for a year. I couldn't bring myself to suffer through what it was asking to get to heavensward. That was the most difficult time I had with FFXIV and yet I pulled my socks up and hacked my way through it. Because of how big of a blot that was on my overall experience I regret that I didn't start skipping cut scenes – but I would say if you get tempted to do that yourself find a guide to what parts are important or have the intention to ng+ it. Don't just quit like I did. I wouldn't have come back if it wasn't for Asmongold.

  24. How other people enjoy the game is really none of my business. Why should someone skipping story affect any one else's enjoyment of the game? Story enjoyment is subjective. I don't think anyone who skipped the story invalidates my personal experiences with the story/game.

  25. imo
Skipping is fine if you wanna just raid or play a game and aren't about the story or if you really just didn't enjoy it but still like the gameplay…that's fine
What's not fine is skipping it from the first cutscene and saying the story is bad when you don't know. Comes off childish in that way
Otherwise…you do you, skip the story…imo just press escape during cutscenes, don't have to pay for that skip hahah

  26. One of 2.0's Issues is that it does, or more so used to, show that the Devs didn't have as big a budget as they do now, that they were trying too bring a failed game back and the raise in budget does start to show from the 2.1 content onwards

  27. I've repeatedly put my stance on the matter but ultimately it boils down to the journey is as important as the destination. Stories of people who claim there is no endgame are plentiful and more likely than not they skipped through the entirety of the MSQ just to "catch up with everyone" or "get to the good part"; There is no real need to bring up names since we've all seen these kinds of people.

It certainly feels that they have been conditioned by other MMORPGs that everything before the max level is irrelevant and doesn't matter in the long run and the key example of this is seeing them pick up every sidequest they see, as they've been trained to go to a quest hub area and clear all these to level up.

  29. Roughly 300 hours from my 1500 or so hours in XIV is just dedicated to me trying to get through ARR/2.0 portion of the game. As well as trying to decide what kind of WoL I wanna play without buying a Fantasia. Anyway, that portion of the MSQ was very difficult to get through at the time. I can only appreciate it in hindsight and attest to the importance of experiencing it. If you love story but have a hard time focusing on just text like me, I totally get wanting to skip but it's worth it to suffer through in my opinion because Heavensward will be all the more enjoyable for it.
