  1. The thing that sets ffxiv apart and what apart of me kinda likes and is ok with. Is that most of the mogstation items were in the game. When the next year comes around they tend (not always) to bring out a new reward and put the old up for sale. So it rewards the veterans who participate in these events while still giving an option for people to get old items

  2. I have to say, finding out that the Endless Summer Glasses and the Eastern Lady Errant's Skirt were Mog Station Items was not a happy moment. But I found some cool stuff in game and then noticed that I have no more Gil for Jet Black, so now my boots look off.

  3. Ff mog armors are all npc, irl attire, missed event gear,, tho they bring events back sometimes. or some kimono type eastern clothing. All the "cool" shit is in the game itself. Thats the big difference to me.

  4. FF14 does gear reskins too. I first noticed because there was a crystal tower item I wanted for a glam but it was bard only. In HW you could find an reskin for mages.

There are way more examples of this too.

  5. The difference is that most Mogstation Items generally look worse than in-game items or are clearly meme purchases (cosplays, etc)
Whereas the World of Warcraft Cash Shop Items are clearly superior to the in-game items. That's really all this comes down to.

  6. i really dont get this "wow bed ffxiv gud" when it comes to monetization. Both games have horrendously greedy monetization and XIV even more than WoW in some cases simply because of the sheer amount of garbage you can buy. A subscription mmo with box cost and paid expansions shouldnt have a cash shop at all imo. The only stuff that should cost money outside of the box cost/sub are the services that you actually dont want players to abuse like race change, server change, apperance change etc

  7. Since it needs to be said – yes, it's bad when the MogStation does it. Maybe not as bad. Still bad. FF14 having a shop for this kind of thing is still a cancerous practice. Consistent standards, please.

  8. I hate cash shops, INCLUDING the mog station. It is bad regardless, however, if you have a good game overall you can make that concession. But the second FF14 the game turns bad I won't make that concession anymore and I'll quit. Simple as.

Make good game – and shit like cash shops are acceptable. If Blizzard made a good game it'd extend to them.

  9. One thing there is to be said, is that every beast tribe in HW and SB gave the player a partial or even full glamor set themed after the tribe you purchase it from.
How odd that they didn't do that in Shadowbringers, yet a fae themed outfit ended up finding its way into the mogstation – almost like it had been planned to be put in the game but knowing that it'd be a highly coveted after set, they didn't.
Let's not pretend XIV isn't guilty of this. It's slippery slopping into it and it doesn't look too bad now, but one can only wonder how it'll be years from now.

  10. The difference between both games is that FF14 puts out content and the store stuff is not really noticed.
But when World of Warcraft does it they first shove the store stuff in your face first before adding the content. Then depending on how much they make on these store items it dictates on when and how much content you get in a 2 year cycle. People have been scammed by paying 6-months subs upfront with no content to show for it in those cycles. Also the price tag of 20 dollars for a cosmetic which is half the cost of an expansion is criminal.

  11. 1:37 because it's less IN-GAME content. Transmog and mounts are the only reason to do some content. You used to see someone with a cool mount or gear and know that dude was badass. Now, it's just like oh he bought it. Don't support microtransactions in any way shape or form.
The fact that we pay for the game, and for a subscription, and now have to pay for cool shit, is unbelievable.

  12. I just don’t get it, of course the store item will be higher quality. It’s an individual item selling for more than your monthly sub lol. If there aren’t any stats and it’s just cosmetic who really gives a fuck. It’s 2021 not 2005 they need to monetize the game just like everyone else does because that’s the business. Expecting otherwise is naive and is a symptom of wow being old asf. That being said the devs should make at least a few equal quality ones you can only get in game because that would temper the flames of rage but being so ignorant about stores is baffling

  13. you think thats bad. try fallout 76 atomic shop where they intentionally nerf in game armor of all its stats to 0 in order to make them cosmetic and force people to buy atomic shop cossmetic only headwear with 0 stats as well. dirt bag game makers. they also remove rewards in game that have stats to agin force people to atomic shop. there needs to be more boycotting of these kind of game and more /spit emotes for players so we can shame the whales. what would be awesome is for people to carry /spit signs at blizzcon and point them at whales:)

  14. Let me just tell you one thing that is a problem, at least with Blizzard when it comes to the in-game shop.

When Blizzard loses players, or they dont earn as much money anymore because of obvious reasons. The game sucks.
Then they pull out some cool mounts or transmogs into the game, so that they can earn back the money that way.

This leads to the attitude that Blizzard now has, which is: Why should we create good content when we can rely on simps who purchase everything we put into the in-game shop.
All Blizzard games could have been better, but why should they spend 50 million dollars to make a good expansion when they can spend 25 million dollars on a half assed no effort expansion and just spend another 500$ to a couple of 3D artists to make cosmetics / mounts for the in-game shop to earn the same amount that a good expansion would.

  15. I know you say you don't really care now but you may not always have a custodian like yoshi-p. The next guy they put in charge may not be so great at keeping profit driven design out of FFXIV. If your invested in FFXIV in the long term the mog station should probably concern you at least a little.

We thought WoW wouldn't matter in wow too at one point.

  16. The offensive part about comparing Blizz store to the Mog Station is that, while a number of the items on there are Mog Station only, a lot of them are not. That set he was looking at when he was going on about soft dad was the reward for the Moonfire Faire a couple years back. The Power Rangers emotes were the rewards for the Moonfire Faire even before that. Also, the Tidus and Yuna sets were for getting tickets to the fanfest. I like that they're not locking that stuff away.

  17. Here’s the problem, if you take out the cash shop, all the revenue that would have been made from the cash shop would have to be distributed toward increasing the subscription price if we wanted to have the same game we currently have. Say for example the cash shop revenue was on par or equal with the current subscription payment, that means subscription fees will be doubled to accommodate the revenue lost, but all items in the cash shop will be available in game. Or keep the subscription the same and remove all the things made for the game that was made possible due to the cash shop. Remove Vanity items, most housing items, extra minions and mounts, the EU Data Center, the New Servers bought for the influx of players made possible by CC mount, etc.

  18. I wonder if Asmon will start caring less about glamour if he does eventually go bald. Do you think there's some correlation to the amount of hair on your head to how much you care about things like how you look in a video game? Maybe, maybe not. Maybe it's just that Xeno has so much power in his beard that the rest of his look doesn't really matter because the beard dominates all. Even people overseas know him as the "bearded man" and I personally have never once noticed what Xeno is wearing but I can instantly tell when he's touched up his beard or cleanly shaved his head. Hell, I probably couldn't even tell you what Xeno's in game character looks like (with the exception of Thirsty B) because mentally I only see his floating head in-game swinging a big weapon around and my mind goes "same bald head, same beard, same greed, same strummer."

  19. One big thing that we'll probably never know is where the money for these cosmetics goes. If it significantly contributes to making the game better (like the FFXIV microtransactions are supposed to be doing) then that's awesome, make more. If all it does is get Bobby another yacht then yeah it's complete bullshit.

What I hate most about FFXIV's store though are the retainers. Inventory space is such a pain in FF with so many goddamn items for everything – currencies, gear for all the jobs, crafting mats, nq and hq, glamour, consumables, etc etc and it's unlikely to get any better because they're selling a (horrible) solution to a problem they created in the store and the game is much worse off for it. Meanwhile WoW is literally pay to win with WoW tokens.
