  2. I know you're well ahead of the YouTube content on twitch, but the general rotation is Jolt -> Thunder/Aero until you have Fire/Stone procs
    Then just. Cycle Fire/Stone -> Aero/Thunder
And on the flip side, the AOEs reverse it so you do Thunder 2/Aero 2 -> Scatter
Very simple and easy to remember imo
And you can use your swiftcast or acceleration to skip a jolt or two and get procs of fire/stone from thunder/aero
You'll later get conditional spells that proc after doing 3 enchanted weaponskills, either the 1-2-3 or the AOE one you get early on
There's a 5th weaponskill with very low red mana requirements for the enchanted version, but it doesn't apply to those conditional spells
Red Mage is my favorite dps job, glad to see you're enjoying it!

  3. I was a Red Mage main of 3 years, and although I've moved towards tanking recently, I find myself coming back to RDM frequently just for fun. Very unique in how it plays, and I actually run into problems sometimes in dungeons with pulling bosses off tanks, with their stance on. Though that could just be from double weaving Engagement and Displacement and Fleche and the like for like four rotations XD

  4. AV is hated for many reasons, but if you have a good healer, it really is not that bad just have to be careful not to accidentally pull half a room you don't want cus they roam and are pretty tightly packed in some places. After that make sure everyone knows/learns the fruit mechanics and everything is okay. First boss is wait for 2 stacks 3 if you feel like you can take it but eat it asap if you do 3 cus it starts ticking pretty hard. Last boss is 3 stacks, that debuff is weaker but will still eat you up if you ignore it. Reason is is that many, is in the older days 2.0 the fruit can run out if you don't kill it fast enough and are just eating it constantly, it does respawn but you have to space out the uses. Only reasons this one is so dreaded though, the healer's bane.

If you want a brief simple rundown on Reds
basics is do short casts into the long casts, but keep your black and white mana sort of balanced cus it stacks easier that way.
    So
    1. If single target start with jolt and lead into either verthunder or veraero, replace jolt with verstone/verfire if you get the proc next rotation
If aoe start with verthunder 2 or veraero 2 and lead into the aoe jolt (I forget the name of that one… scatter, scathe? the nonelemental aoe)
    2. dump the off GCDs whenever you have them for damage (the blue ones fleche and whatever the aoe one is again)
    3. then when the bar is at least 50 for white and black or full if you want to save it up for double whammy go ham with the empowered 1,2,3 melee combos, personally I never use the aoe ones but you have those too if you want, jump back (you have an engage and disengage skill if you trust it not to flip you off the ledges) and start back at 1.
This is your basic rotation until you get the big procs later at least. You do have your own fast cast that works for only certain red spells, but I think if I remember right it does not proc dualcast if you use it, so you can not cheat the rotations with it, might proc a verstone/fire though so nice to remember, still handy to toss out a fast cast now and then.
Hope that helps a little with skill setups, again, it is just basics, set it up however you want it, it is a fun versatile class.

When you get vercure, you can also use it to pre proc a dualcast so you can start with a longcast skill too, also when you get res, you can use it as your dualcast proc for insta-res, very handy, but will drain your mana. Your vercure is not amazing but is decent for a little extra healing, you won't replace a healer though obviously, but kinda nice to have, you can potentially hold a tank maybe long enough for a healer to res back if they die or give a small bit of help to a struggling healer but don't rely on it too much, can be clutch though.

  5. Red mage is still one of my favorite jobs in XIV. What starts as a "jolt then long cast" slowly builds into a "how can I never press jolt" as you get better at optimizing it. Using imbalanced mana to guarantee procs with the 70 capstone, or swift casting your long spells to fish for fire and stone. There's noting quite as satisfying as going a full 2 minutes with like a single jolt cast.

  6. I just learned this today and haven't tested it a ton but at like 15:30 or so when you say "I wish it auto targeted when you're spam casting" there IS a setting for that. Under Character Configuration > Control Settings > Target. It's the second section from the top, "Auto-Target Settings". You can have it auto target closest target or whatnot based on priorities. You'll have to paly around with it, I've not done that myself, but it could be useful!
