  1. I'm happy we all realize that, for the most part, FFXIV essentially is but a glorified online single player RPG.
And while many aficionados keep saying "It's FF, dude, you play for the story – go play something else if you don't like it", from my part I insist on the fact that FFXIV's story-telling (especially in the abysmally long ARR part) is unnecessarily slow, dreadfully roleplayed and ultimately bad game play.

Battle system is fantastic, graphics is gorgeous and creativity is top: let players enjoy that and allow those who wish to spend hours of their lives watching obnoxious cutscenes to do so, if that's their cup of tea. And don't tell me "you can skip most of them, dude": that's not the point. I lose control of my character so many times during a session (from handing in a quest to talking to the nth NPC) that all I want to do is smashing my keyboard, at times.

  2. That transition from single player to multiplayer is much harder and difficult than NSP makes it sound. While he makes it sound simple, there's a lot of issues with multiplayer, such as the duty needing other players to wait and that can really mess up the pacing for people who just want to experience the story. There's also the feeling of not being in control of your party like other single player RPGs or customize characters with special effects in accessories and all that. There are massive differences and these are some insurmountable ones due to how different an MMO is from a single player experience. And in the end, even turn based MMOs can't replicate that feeling because of the differences between an MMO and a single player game. If you're looking for that classic RPG experience, it's best to stay away from MMOs in general because it won't have what you're looking for.

  3. I wonder if they would somehow shorten the old content a little. When he said his friends got to mid heavensward few weeks later, i almost feel bad for new players next expansion having to run thru arr, hw, sb and shb story just to reach current content.

  4. My brother convinced me to play XIV (and he's a returner too, probably bcus Endwalker), so yea I just started playing few days ago. I've played single player FF from the OG 7 until 15, and not new to MMO. But the last time I played MMO was almost 10 years ago, lol. And this is the first time I play MMO with PS4, I figured that I will have problem chatting with others. So thats one of my concern too, how far can XIV be soloable with less interaction with other players. And so far until lvl 32, I have no problem. Duty finder helps alot with the first 3 party instances, even tho sometimes it takes around 10 mins to get a party. Can't wait to get to the good part of the story

  5. I didn't like SB the first time through. Going back a second time having finished ShB, I'm actually enjoying it quite a bit. There's a lot of information in it that you couldn't have gotten from it without knowing what we learned from ShB.

  6. I restarted in 2.3 and from there to Stormblood it took me 80 hours. I’m at a total of 218 hours per ps5 timer including ARR. I’m a little more than the middle of Stormblood.

I’m loving Stormblood in a very different way to Heavensward. HW has more of a classic FF. Stormblood feels newer, different and I love the music. Even though Dragonsong is my favorite song right now, Crimson Sunset is omg , so good. To me, the music is a huge part of the Final Fantasy experience.

The multiplayer part was a turnoff in the beginning. Right now, after more than 200 hours, I’m almost looking for it. I love the raids and dungeons. I hated being a Tank, and now I feel that I got good thanks to the help of the community. I think it will eventually become my favorite FF when I finish the hyped Shadowbringers. Can’t wait, but also don’t want it to end.
