Why Optimized Openers Delay their Cooldowns! FFXIV Endwalker

Find out why optimized openers, commonly used in savage raids and more, tend to delay cooldowns 7-8 seconds!

In this video, we dive into the reasons why the optimal openers for most jobs have these odd and in some cases unnecessary “delays” in their openers.
We also discuss reasons for and against doing so, and also talk about when and why the initially logical openers – with no delay – can be better.

Both a Mathematical reasoning detailing how much this delay can add, as well as an actual demonstration showing how it works, are included!

If you feel like things are going a bit fast or a bit slow, I welcome you to adjust the video pace accordingly! I would not be surprised if you would benefit from pausing the video at certain points (like when the number parts come up!)

  1. Simply fantastic! Your way of explaining everything is so good, it makes me want to learn more! Very interesting topic, and one I haven't seen before, so thank you and have a blessed day ^^

  2. This is something I started intuitively understanding as I started learning higher-level rotations for different jobs, but having the math all laid out so well like this really helped me appreciate just how much of a difference this stuff makes!

I also appreciate the disclaimer at the start because I'm very excited to get to the current EX and maybe try savage (currently progressing through EW MSQ!) but I worry a bit about my ability to perform, since while I can usually stick to a proper opener and go through the first few minutes of an encounter without mistakes, I rarely manage to go for an entire trial/normal raid without something going out of sync unless I've practically memorized the fight. When I see other players talking about high-end play it always sounds like if I can't perform my rotation perfectly throughout a 10-minute encounter I'll just be dragging down my team. Target dummies are good practice but it's really more of a question for me of managing my attention between mechanics and my cooldowns…
