Nyahahaha! Awesome intro ma-guy!!!
Being able to take a break from FF14 IS NOT A FLAW. It's a flaw to him because he's a content creator that literally played the game non-stop for nearly a year and now ran out of content. The solution to his problem would be to do what WoW does and take these small mandatory content drops, but expand them with weekly and daily caps (which the game has, but is very ez to do). Because one major Patch of FF14, has close to the same amount of content that a WoW release has. The difference is that we can finish FF14 content and decide to either play it some more or stop. The content is there. There is way more stuff to do in FF14 right now than the entirety of WoW, but the thing i think he wants, is that forced grind aspect. He wants to get addicted and have infinite things to do, even if that means doing the same mind numbing bs that they force you to do in WoW. This is literal addict streamer brain. I have played so many games this year, and if i was forced to play FF14 as much as WoW to enjoy it, The amount of games i played would be cut down by 90%. Fuck that. Yoshi-P's philosophy for the game is great for the community it already has. No need to make endless grind fests. Another weird part is how he said he was always Idle in FF14 with nothing to do…. while being Idle in WoW just running circles. This isn't just for this vid either. Again it's this mentality of needing to find flaws on one game to justify your decision of playing another. It's odd.
People no life the game and then complain there's nothing to do. Even though there still is, they just don't want to do it. And that's fine. But they're taking that "nothing I want to do" as equal to "endgame is dead" which is unnecessary and spreads a false narrative.
And yeah taking a break isn't a flaw imo. I guess if you own a house it can be. But otherwise nah. Opportunity to try out something else > hamster grinds
The thing is I stopped playing wow, because I did not feel like there was anything worthwhile to do.
I still play ffxiv because I feel like what I am doing is worthwhile.
The games are what the player makes of them, as it should be. Play what you enjoy.
I totally understand what he's saying from a streamer's perspective. As far as content though, there's still so many things he hasn't done yet in XIV. I've been playing for about 5 years now, never touched Ultimate and only recently started progging savages, and I've never felt like there was nothing to do. There's Eureka, Bozja, Palace of the Dead, Heaven on High, Mentor Roulette, past relic grinds, leveling all jobs, leveling all crafters, etc. Mentor Roulette alone took me a year and a half to complete for Astrope, and it was not at all boring. Watching Zepla try it and get her first ARR extreme in the roulette was hilarious. XD Even now I've made a list of achievements I want to finish, including the Morbol mount from BLU and the tank mounts. The amount of content in this game honestly blows my mind. Of course I understand that not everyone is going to want to do all that, and that's totally fine. And as he said, streaming the content is a lot different from just playing it. So I totally understand that. But you never really know how the content will go over on stream unless you try it.
FF has a ton to do. But it doesn't have a ton to stream, once you have done MSQ and ultimates. Or at least, not obvious things to do, you have to come up with your own content.
And for a streamer whose main focus was PvP, it can't really be argued that wow doesn't have the better PvP for streaming or hardcore pvpers.
I agree imo one of the biggest problem is no new exploration zone aka Eureka and Bozja
We need the content we already have to be handle diffrent and things like long goals that are evergreen, with good reward!
1. Criterion: Fcked up, the content itself is 10/10 imo but rewards: Imagine good pet/adv plate/mount that you have to clear few times and if it had rating/leaderboard like deep dungeons
2. All DD should have a 4 man hard mode, example POTD you start lvl 90 from high floors(everytime random floors), npc are scaled as ASS savage and there is a leader board/rating!
3. Msq dungeons need a diffrent mode with more difficulty 1 rotating every week- just scale them, we have so many dungeons that just sitting
4. Relics should be through the whole expansion- from 6.05-6.55 all green, example 3steps are out I smash 2 and leave it and maybe finish it later in 1 go or what ever.
5. Deep dungeon should be sooner- I agree not rushing content before it is finished/bug free
Again taking a break is a good thing and I agree with Yoshi statement and feel so happy that I do not need to farm arbitrary current everyday for it to be removed later like in other MMOs, but man people need to stop using this as an excuse. I don't want nor need endless power pursuit or other BS retention mechanics.
We have so many great content but they are not implemented very well and with few adjustments this would help a lot!
P.S: Alninio what helps me besides raids is DDs- I chat with friends while in low levels, bozja and eureka, pvp(-God I hope they give us atleast 2 more abilities, better rewards but take a bit longer, normal que with friends and custom games with whatever-not only 10 premades)
my two biggest wishes for the game is to make healers actually healers and introduce some type of mythic+ idea. I never even played WoW past like lvl 60 and the idea of mythic+ sounds amazing.
This is the PATCH content we get within A 5 MONTH PERIOD – a new raid tier, a 24 man alliance raid, deep dungeon, criterion dungeon, variant dungeon, island sanctuary, 2 MSQ dungeons, 2 EX/normal trial bosses, 2 unreal bosses sephirot/sofia, island sanctuary, new pvp map and rewards, new relic weapons, two MSQ story patches, new maps instance, new crafter/gatherer tools, 6 new wards, duty support system, new tribal questlines, adventure plates, and a new ultimate. Thats not even mentioning all the past savages and EX you can still do plus Eureka, Bozja, HoH, PoTD and the new side questlines they add as well. Savix just likes grinding WoW pvp more than anything, he's done it for almost 15 years, but shouldnt pretend like there is no content in FF.
Yoshi-P once stated in an interview that he encourages players to try other games and that FF would be here with another update when they come back. The game is intentionally designed this way. Newer players might feel something is amiss with the lack of systems and grinds compared to other MMOs, but it's intended prevent burnout. How many times have you heard a WoW, BDO, or Lost Ark player say that they wish they didn't have to log in to do some kind of daily? Especially because NOT doing those dailies will lock them out of further content due to item level restrictions? FF is one of the rare MMOs where it's normal and perfectly in line to say "I've done all I wanted to do for now, maybe I'll go play Elden Ring."
However, I do think that there is a problem with Endwalker. The expansion has been leaner than previous ones, without a Bozja/Eureka type grind to look forward to for midcore players that are inclined to engage in that type of activity. A majority of bonus releases (aka releases that go outside what previous expansions and patch cycles have done) have gone towards more hardcore players that enjoy a highly specific form of difficulty: 3 Ultimates, Criterion Dungeons, Deep Dungeon, and PvP rework + promoting ranked solo queue seasons, with the only exception being the island sanctuary that also has a limit on how much you can do. It's safe to say that without some kind of additional grind, the current expansion perhaps isn't reaching "player engagement" levels that the previous ones have. I myself have stepped away from the game since there isn't much to pursue outside of very high-end difficult PvE content. Who knows though. Maybe the Deep Dungeon will be a good grind, maybe the relic weapons will have some good content attached to them, there's a lot that we don't know yet and we'll have to see what they're planning for 6.3 and onwards.
Most players aren't grinding out 6+ hours of gameplay a day, everyday, and it's not realistic to expect Square Enix to provide enough stream-able content to support that play style each patch cycle. Lol I've had an active FF14 sub for just over 2 years and I'm still mid-Endwalker MSQ. I haven't even finished Bozja, Eureka, or the Eden and Nier raids, etc. I realise it must be really tough as a content creator, but it's weird for him to make grand declarations about the endgame content when the reasoning is only relevant to the small streamer/no-lifer subset of players. I hope he enjoys Dragonflight, though. I know a lot of people have been anticipating it
Maybe it's because he's a streamer but Savix absolutely TORE through the content in this game. Like, less than 6 months spent playing and he's done the whole story and cleared the hardest content in the game.
Personally, I've gone at a much slower pace. After a year and a half or so, I've cleared all of the extremes and old savages and I've cleared UCoB and am a bit into UwU. There's still lots of stuff I haven't done though. Perhaps it's also because I'll progging through the content in a more casual way. I don't just mainline the content for 8 hours a day until I clear. I meet with my static for like 6 hours a week and clear the content in a few months, rather than in like a week by going super hard. I've enjoyed doing things like that, I feel like it gives more room for the content to breathe and I don't get super burnt out with it.
I think adding something like Mythic+ or paragon scaling from Diablo 3 would be a solution for players like this who do just grind the fuck out of the game, but I'm not sure that that's really "content." Doing the same thing over and over again but with an increasing number seems like garbage gameplay to me. Rather than feel like you have to keep doing that over and over, I'd say you should play a different game. WoW has, as I understand it, had these sorts of systems and infinite progression systems in place to keep people playing. I don't know that that's actually a good thing, even though it does allow you to keep grinding the same game forever.
Idk, I'm conflicted. On one hand, I do like having content I can grind, but on the other, it seems like bad gameplay.
Taking a break is fine. His reasons make perfect sense especially being a content creator. You go where the views and the money is, simple. FFXIV was never designed to keep people playing forever, it encourages breaks. My only contention with his reasoning is the fallacy that "endgame is dead". There isn't any real endgame in FFXIV. You do what you want to do and then stop when you have nothing left that you want to do. Don't go around and spread misinformation that the game has no endgame, that isn't fair to the game when he talks about it as if it's immutable fact when it isn't. if he had said "there's nothing left that interests me", that would make much more sense. This is why GingerPrime caught so much flak when he came out with his stupid video bashing FFXIV out of anger. He spouted nonsense without knowing what he was talking about. Don't criticize parts of the game that you never bother to engage in. I wish he was more up front about it all. "I quit because it's not really something I can stream long term, there's nothing left that I'm personally interested in the game and I would much rather go back to doing PVP in WoW which is what I'm really passionate about."
There, was that so hard? Jesus, man.
I think this is natural though. If you take all the content in the game, you have to still cut it down by "what do I want to do" and that can get really slim. Some players are just there for raiding and that's a fraction of what the game offers. Of course you're going to run out of content unless you're lucky enough to actually enjoy most of FF's content. And I'd wager most ppl only have time to casually log in a few hours a day, so they aren't running out of content. I think it's just an issue that impacts streamers more than others and I don't know what we can expect the devs to do about that. They really do put a lot of content out imho.
