This bearded FFXIV extreme took my group HOSTAGE for 2 days!

Today we take on the Ramuh trial in FFXIV, both hard mode and extreme. I always thought I was a beard supporter, but I may have to reconsider…

  1. This fight. I left this fight with cramping fingers for almost a week trying over and over to do it MINE. It's the fight that made me decide that while I like doing EX fights, MINE is too much for me and my brain.

  2. I often get into debates with other players about suggesting that sprouts use Party Finder rather than Duty Finder for Extremes. They usually mistake my intention – I don't mind teaching the fights, this advice is because newly minted sprouts have no idea what they're getting into with extremes and the random match of Duty Finder is a recipe for a not-fun time. You see, I lost count of how many poor tanks come into Ramuh Ex not knowing how to tank swap or what it is, nevermind the concept of grabbing just enough orbs to get a buff or being sure to time it so there is never a tank without a buff. And the tank part is relatively easy compared to the responsibility of clearing charms, tethers and keeping orb count steady (which is more a dps responsibility).

In short, Ramuh Ex has made many a sprout cry and it pains me when they give up and rage quit. For those of you without streamer privilege and new to extremes, please use Party Finder.

ETA – Sorry Russ for turning this into a soapbox rant. It's definitely not aimed at you or the other folks who do tackle these the way you do. Keep up the good work

  3. I don’t think I’m saying anything you haven’t already heard but trust me when I say Russ that although varied in quality of difficulty Ramuh is really just the tip of the iceberg in how insane EXT Trials can be

  4. This is a fight where team communication/knowledge is key

The Tanks have to constantly keep track of the buffs and swap adequately, the DPS and Healers have to gradually pick up the other orbs to lower Ramuh's damage, but not too much so that the Tanks have enough to get the buff quickly for a swap, while also keeping track of his Chaos mechanic and making sure people don't overlap

Its just a lot to keep track of in quick succesion.

    PS:
Picking up a 4th orb still gives you the protection from his instant kill, so Tanks can pick it up in case the other tank needs more time, you just get less healing, which makes it tougher for Healers to keep you alive

  5. ramuh is imo the hardest ARR EX fight mechanics wise even with the knowledge on how to do it. still a fun fight though

i made it a minor mission of mine to do all the EX fights in ARR as at least 1 of each role before moving onto HW, i main healer so that wasnt an issue, same with DPS…but the thought of doing ramuh EX as tank terrified me to no end.

turns out my other tank (who was also new-ish to tanking) was worse than me so that made me feel better 🤣

  6. Extreme and Savage are my favorite forms of high end content exactly because of the intricate dances they are. Sure ARR extremes by today’s standards are a bit tame, but on minimum item level they still put up quite a fight. Just the process of seeing how things just gently click into place and the execution required. Obviously you’ve been in the MMO game way longer than I have Russ, and I imagine it was second nature for you, but seeing all the pieces fall into place is just so satisfying. It feels like the spirit of the MMO endgame, working together and achieving goals as a team.

  7. It'll probably be easier to just buy it from the marketboard, but if you do decide to craft it I definitely recommend the Ramuh EX katana. It is currently my favorite SAM weapon, and I dunno if anything's gonna top it anytime soon. Except maybe the Ifrit EX katana, but I haven't crafted that one yet.
