  1. First, I say this as someone who has played through FFXIV and the first expansion, and as a wow player who played up through cata originally (and am in TBC Classic now).

That all being said, it's great to see someone who is a die hard WoW lore/story fan actually play a game which has good writing. I know this will be unpopular, but the majority of blizzards writing is bad, bordering on terrible. They over use the whole "he was good, but now he's bad… But wait, now he's good again!" and the "betrayal" trope. Also, as he mentioned, he thinks it's low stakes in FFXIV, but as he hinted at suspecting, it's very much a slow burn. The stakes are definitely not low, they just treat the player like a thinking adult, rather than an ADHD 11 year old who has to be slapped in the face with reminders at every turn to stay on topic.

  2. Oh good nice to see a wow YouTuber that doesn’t shit all over ffxiv because they are paid to play wow cough*asmongold*cough lol. Ffxiv is just such a nice change of scenery, great community, great story so many wonderful features and the music *chef kiss *

  3. I can't wait for him to find the coolest dungeon in the game outside of msq: The Twinning. o/

Though if he wants to see a terrifying dungeon early on, Wanderer's Palace normal takes the cake

  4. Started playing recently, I see tremendous detail I will keep playing so happy I picked this game up. WoW has a special place in my heart I will revisit it in 9.1 but for now, its just incredibly boring doing the same thing over and over whilst trying to overcome very tedious systems like the conduit and covenant system. I wanna start playing subtlety but I have to craft a new legendary which means more choreghast then switch covenant which takes a week or two and then also put the correct conduits… It's just so bothersome I am paying to have fun but all I get is discomfort.

  5. The more cinematic cutscene aspect was something they had back in FFXI and when I moved to LotRO and WoW and got blocks of texts and NPCs with bubble texts off my camera view I was ot really as engaged with the story.

  6. Imagine a game where the first 50 or 60 levels is so incredibly boring with awful story. What a brilliant game design. Bore your player base and only reward them for end game content. FFXIV is so boring that it's a struggle to get through to the "good parts". Combat is awful too.

  7. Little bit of info about the ARR dungeons…. Pretty much most of those were OPEN WORLD explorable places in FFXIV 1.0… So Satasha was a Cave system you could fully explore and navigate back in 1.0, same with Deepcroft etc.

  8. Honestly, if you're even moderately enjoying FFXIV now – and it sounds like you are – you're gonna love it later. The big caveat with recommending people to this game is always that the early parts and low levels are comparatively slow/uninteresting; almost every aspect of the game gets substantially better by the time you hit Heavensward.

  9. Just helping out a friend that's completely new to the game and I forgot how overwhelming Limsa is when you first go there and don't have the aethernet shards unlocked yet. So me and my other friend who's at endgame were trying to find the best route and explaining the way in VC. It's such fun seeing the game through the eyes of a new player again. Takes me back to my first experiences and reminds me of why I love this game so much. 🙂

  10. As a big XIV player who has capped all jobs and done all current content, if you are into story you will have an amazing time in the expansions (90% of the time maybe lol). I am also a normal FF fan who played vanilla WoW and BC on launch. Heavensward and Shadowbringers have very very good narratives, as I'm sure you've been told a million times. The latter is one of my favorite stories in a game period. But unless you are interested in 500+ pulls in an ultimate fight or the more frivolous activities like housing and mount farming, you will run out of content in endgame.

It (again, mostly) respects your time way more than WoW but that also means there will be periods where a lot of people unsub and wait for the next patch. This has been outright stated by the devs who acknowledged the content droughts and said they are 100% fine with people unsubbing between patches. I hope you have a ton of fun but just warning you will inevitably hit that drought when you're up to current. We are getting very little content until November (Endwalker) and the game is just not as easily farmed for content post MSQ and side quests. The journey is amazing and the music slaps. Enjoy 🙂

  11. I’m really curious what his take will be once he’s massively overleveled and grinding the MSQ. That’s the biggest pitfall of the game – I enjoy the story but once it starts to hold you back that’s when it becomes a grind

  12. i cant wait to see his reaction when he starts getting into the expansions like heavensward onward. i love hearing the excitement that someone gets going through the expansions and how they just get more and more excited the more they progress its one of my greatest's loves this game provides. because thats how i felt going through and now years later it continues to excite me.

  13. It’s hard to believe you when in majority of not all of these clips and on main channel, very rarely actually show gameplay or you playing the game. Just sounds like fluff really, not SEEING anything to compare Blizzard to.

  14. I could tell a whole story of "Lost in Lominsa" but because everyone else already knows that…Then in Ul'Dah we could sidetrack to "Hysterical in The Hustings" which is slightly more interesting…

  15. 12:00 I felt what he was saying. The narrative in FFXIV is very saturday morning cartoon. Largely the formula and the archetypes remain comfortably consistent. I have entered fugue states where I just right click on sparkly objects and autopilot to markers while I'm typing in /fc chat or doing irl things, but whenever I returned I never felt lost. Things arnt repeated to waste your time, but there are definite refreshers at appropriate moments.

  16. This is what got me. In Wow, they are just jerking off thier characters in a story I long stopped caring about that barely involves my hero. In FF, your character is an important part of a interwoven group of important people

  17. Totally with you regarding the so-called ARR "grind". I rolled a conjuror aiming for white mage and started over the weekend. Currently Lvl 28 or so and the quests are completely comparable to every other MMORPG I've played. I really don't know what the FFXIV vets were warning everyone about.

  18. please keep playing, the story is so amazing, just left wow and have been playing ff14 for a month. I just got to the end of shadowbringers. Keep at it, it has a very slow bumps but it pays off, for your time playing! 🙂
