When FFXIV Stormblood Got Good

The slow burn pays off big. Stormblood reels us in, maybe Kyle a little faster than Garrett.

  1. FYI Garrett in your stream you mentioned the hood the people scattering the soil before the Nadaam were wearing it's a recolor of the Star Velvet Casting/Healing set so the model would be available if you level your summoner/scholar.

  2. If you liked the Nadaam the Onsal Hakair frontlines map is basically a big PvP Nadaam with multiple control points. It's frontlines so it was never great to begin with and the PvP skills rework made it even more unbalanced but if you want more steppe chaos it can be pretty fun as long as your team isn't completely dumb. The Garo event has some good armour and mounts from PvP achievements right now, too.

  3. I'll be honest with you guys, this is some of the best and most inciteful story breakdown of Stormblood I have ever watched. The oppression differences between each zone is something I've never really heard anyone point out in depth. GREAT content keep it up I'm really enjoying it.

  5. Best thing about all of these feelings to these NPCs – Sadu, Magnai, Lyse, Zenos, Sir McHandsome – is that they're direct to you: the player.
Not another NPC that takes the cutscene spotlights because they're pre-rendered or MC we're following.

Like 'em or hate them, it's you they're connecting with, fighting in instances, and growing alongside.

  6. I think what people didn't liked about Lyse was her transition from Yda into Lyse which took her like 1 quest? And all the other chars from the maincast were like…yeah…we knew. Was really sad forced character developement. While Alphinaud basically had literally two expansions to get from a spoiled brat into someone who actually thinks before he creates a private army.

  7. Personally, I enjoyed Stormblood, but I think a large part of that was that I 'got' where the story was going early on, and I have a higher-than-average tolerance for slow-burn stories. I knew that we needed to get kicked in the teeth for the first half, so victory couldn't feel too easy. I figured that "Yda" was too much of a one-dimensional comedy foil to carry the weight of an expansion the same way that Alphinaud did for Heavensward, and "Lyse" figuring out who she was outside of the shadow of the Scions was going to be a rocky journey. I can't say the storytelling was "good", given how many people bounced off of it, but I had no problems with it at the time.

That said, Shadowbringers and Endwalker both managed to be so much better at telling the stories that Stromblood was trying to tell, that It really does suffer in the comparison. They way battles are presented in Duties and cutscenes, the way we are connected intimately to memorable new characters, and the way we see the growth and struggles of the characters are all handled far more deftly, and with much better pacing.

  8. I don’t see anyone else
Mentioning this, but Hien is a shout out to FF 6, like a lot of Doma. Hien’s father was Emperor Kien, who shares a name in Japanese with Cyan from FF6, who was the samurai class in that game. He has a son named Owen in that game. Basically, a different member of the Doma family dies in this game.

  9. I don't have much to add, I just love Stormblood so much and its great to see yall enjoying the expansion and getting so much out of it. Yall also bring up some interesting points like I never thought about the expansion showing off the different stages of Garlean rule, which I thought was hella fascinating. I can't wait to see that final quest, it very much rivals all the other Final Quests that the game has had so far!
