  1. Nice video ! As a FF14 player I'd like to point out about EXP from Main Story Quest (MSQ) that I hope it'll help you on your journey in FF14

MSQ is actually one of the best way for leveling your character since it gives a ton of EXP, but it will give only amount that correspond with current patch max level.

EXP from ARR MSQ is suppose to boost you to the level 50 which is maximum of the current patch, so it will not be effective after you've gone above lvl50. If you want a big chunk of EXP from MSQ again you'll get them once you've reaches the Heavensward expansion (which also supposely to get you from 50 to 60 and goes on to Stormblood expansion for 60 to 70 and so on with Shadowbringers)

The way to play through this effectively is to leveling another job you're comfort with, or maybe trying new job that you're interested in, to level 50 with ARR MSQ
The game also provide "Armoury Bonus" which will gives you +100% EXP bonus for any job that not exceed your highest level job so it's more easier to level up your sub job or trying something new 🙂 oh, and don't forget to do your job quest (small text indication under your MSQ on top left of screen) to unlock new skills and abilities.

  2. To be fair FFxiv the story is a big part of the game, in wow it's end game raiding and M+, FFxiv has end game external non-raid things to do and there isn't time gating like in wow 30 weeks to unlock all of the covenant or weekly drop of gear, the rotations get more complicated later on and keep your fingers busy and if you're playing Melee class they have positional attacks as well.
just a heads up you are only 4 MSQ quests from getting into Heavensward and bosting your XP again

  3. Speeding up the base GCD of the game would snap the way all the raids and content as far as combat goes in half.

It's designed to be able to weave together your off global cooldowns in between GCD buttons to allow for a quicker game. It may be a slower game at the beginning because of it. However it forces you to learn what all your buttons do.

Some level 80 jobs click 10 buttons within a 7 second span as raid boss openers. And that's just do trying to optimize damage and buffs and debuffs and everything.

You'll see as you continue playing why the 2.5 gcd was designed as it was.

If you still don't like it, you can easily meld Skill Speed to your gear ♡

  4. The only unskippables are in msq dungeon reullete because if everyone skips than it runs the experience for new players, but the trade of is you get a shit ton of exp. I don't think the cutscene are really a problem in anything else. But the story will always be the center of the game, that won't change and the community doesn't want it to change.

  5. A few things… The combat is slower in tbr beginning because of the gcd and ogcd combination system they've built. If the alter it they'd need to rebuild every job in the game and rebalance every fight. Ffxiv actually has more apm (actions per minute) then wow at higher levels and the jobs are better designed all around. There are multiple jobs that are literally 3 buttons in wow that doesn't exist in ffxiv you need the entire kit for everyone.
    2. Final fantasy games are basically Japanese dnd. They are story based games and they're not for everyone. That's like complaining that wow let's you just kill everything non stop which is fun in its own right. Wow was built on combat systems as a base not story so its a completely different style. Ffxiv is a final fantasy game first and a mmo second. Shadowbringers (the current expansion) is significantly better specifically because of the story from the previous expansions that you're complaining about. The dungeon cutscenes also provide area and world lore instead of putting it in a book like wow.
If the load times are an issue I'd get a ssd or a ps5.

Also arr is the worst part of ffxiv. There's a documentary on it. The original lead director built a horrible game and nearly tanked the company and the series completely. Then yoshi p took over and had to kill off ffxiv while rebuilding ffxiv into arr with only have a team in only a few years. Mmo's take around 8 years to build he did it in around 3. It's the noclip documentary it'll provide a more comprehensive overview of what actually happened and why players are grateful ffxiv exists.

  6. MSQ is the only unskippable cutscene, this is because what happened in the past where people would wall to wall pull. The new player would only be half way through the scene but raid done, they compensated by making it give a lot of exp in return. You can also turn off cut scene that you have already seen so it doesn't happen in other dungeons/raids or trials after the first time.
The thing about only getting 4k exp for the quests you are currently on, is because you are playing the 1.x patch's this was the endgame stuff and cap so we actually go no exp so be happy there :D. Also 50-51 60-61 etc has the large exp jumps so it can feel a lot slower. After ARR they reduced the number of msq quest after each main x.y, was reduced by a lot I think 25-30 total till next expansion from like 70 quest. So they have addressed it in a way.
I get people play games for enjoyment, but do you go to movies just for action scenes? I feel because you dont have to do anything in any order the story and your character feels lost and has no meaning in WoW. ( And i believe shadowlands you had to do the msq at least once). And wow just throws slabs of text at you in quest so most people learn to just click so they can go get their gold and exp, and because this has happened for so long its hard to break out of habit. Personally I like the cutscenes in quest you get to see you character's and the npcs reaction to your actions or the situation.
The GCD argument has been done over and over, imo sure you can press a button every 1.5 or less but the animation for the spells and atk animation look so funny and have no weight to them they are just there to spam. And so what if you can throw 4 Fireballs in the time it takes me to cast maybe one or two to kill X mob, it makes the spell feel more powerful and impactful.

  7. Welcome to FFXIV. Seems like you are enjoying the game and I am happy for you. One thing to note, in FF14, there are classes in the game as well as job. It's a common misconception that many people get it wrong. The classes in FF14 are Marauder, Gladiator, Conjuer, Arcainist, and so on. These are from Final Fantasy 14 version 1.0. When Yoshi P took over, he wanted to include iconic final fantasy roles such as Warrior, Paladin, White Mage, Summoner, and so on. So what he propose was a Job system. This allowed legacy player the ability to upgrade 1.0 character class into Jobs for ARR. They did this to pretty much ditch the old system in a lore friendly way. So in a way, Jobs are basically an upgraded classes.

  8. I dont think either dev team see's the other as competition
The FFXIV devs see WoW as a measuring stick for modern MMO's and they use it as a learning tool
On the other hand, I think the WoW devs see the FFXIV devs as colleagues or peers but they view FFXIV as the inferior game
Its a shame because WoW can learn a lot for FFXIV but someone's ego is getting in the way

  9. Your perspective on skipping the story seems very much like a WoW player perspective. I can't imagine that. Why would you want to skip the story? It's like one of the best parts of the game, and it's something you only get to experience for the first time once. Like reading a good book or watching a movie for the first time. Granted, the ARR stuff is pretty low quality (though I thought it paid off pretty well in the end). At least for the MSQ stuff and Job Quests, I really like the cutscenes. They make me feel more immersed and attached to my character. It seems like WoW just was bad at telling stories through quests and it trained its players to think that story in games is bad just because WoW didn't do it well.

  10. If the base gcd is too slow I’d suggest playing pugilist/monk as it has a passive trait to have a faster gcd, 2 seconds base at level 80.

  11. Cutscenes being in instances isn’t as big of a problem after arr, there are still cutscenes but they’re not super long IN the instances.
