Endwalker has changed what we have come to expect from Final Fantasy XIV. This time around we don’t just have one bonus story trial instead its looking like we’ll have four, and because of that we are kinda left in the dark. Its not like past expansion where we could reliable predict the remaining trials. This time around there is a bit more guess work, so lets see if we can figure out who we will be fighting next.

Given the 83 trial I feel like almost anything is game and anything could happen as far as bosses go. Despite that I'm still leaning towards Azdaja and Golbez being the bosses (in that order) or a potential bait and switch with Golbez and we get Zeromus instead. Or maybe Azdaja as a solo instance followed by Golbez trial and Zeromus in 6.5, but I feel like finishing Golbez off in 6.4 might make the pacing a bit odd. Regardless, I'm willing to throw a bet down on 7.0 not being void related and it being wrapped up somewhat within the patches and something else completely unexpected happening following it, or perhaps in relation to whatever or meddling in the void causes. Not to say the void will be "done" and it might just set up for something later, (ex. the Warriors of Darkness to Shadowbringers pipeline) but in the meantime something else will attract our attention for 7.0.
My reasoning for this is that Yoship said in an interview that we'd get a "glimmer" of what the next expansion would be in 6.5, and if it's just more void stuff, I feel like we've been hit over the head with that sign since 6.1.
Or im just big copium mode because I want to see Meracydia LOL. But my wild theory will be that after bringing Azdaja back (assuming she lives) she decides to depart south and we go with her, for reasons not yet known. Of course the "glimmer" Yoship referenced could just be we'd have a more specific idea of what we're doing next in the void (restoring the light? Lightbringers?) but I'm locking my answer in, 7.0 won't be void related. Quote me during fanfest.
I have a hard time imaging Golbez sticking around for an entire expansion yet I'm not able to provide any alternative. I'm thinking given we seen a end of a story with Endwalker and I think it's easy to draw connection to ARR which tied up 1.Xs Garlean invasion story.
Looking at the patches they are somewhat similar and not the patches have their own trials same as ARR and it's definitely seeming to build up to a critical event. The thing these patches seem to miss however is building up what's to come like what people we will help down the line and what threats seems ahead.
Endwalker main story have given us very little to work with I feel the only thing we got is the thirteenth or rather the pre calamity version we seen at least which given the settings seen in the Newfound adventure quests being slightly altered versions of existing zones I don't think it's much to go on. I think there is a pattern to expansions the a bit more orderly expansion focusing on a small area and the more chaotic ones that covers a lot of ground. ARR, SB and EW being on the more chaotic side while HSW and ShB being more focused on a smaller area. The thirteenth certainly fits the criteria but I think Meracydia is more likely to be the place we will be going as generally the places we go are places we been expecting to go eventually and I don't think there is any other place we as familiar to us as that we yet to go to.
There are other candidates but think there needs to be time brewing like Garlemald in the state it's in the old citizen will go to many places some will stay to rebuild, some will join the allied nations, some will settle in conquered territories Corvos mentioned by name, some will live on the moon and wouldn't be surprised if some would try their luck outside of Eorzea like perhaps The New World or Meracydia. Bluomwyda and Aergmhus going to Aerslaent, Northern Empty, Roegadyn Homeland. Alianne, Homei and Isildaure taking a trip to Nagxia with Atori from Southern Front interesting location as we already got a old map of the general area with Ivalice, Hoary going to Corvos to ease tensions between Corvosi and Garleans. So definitely will still have a expansion or two spurred by Garleans.
Something big will definitely happen with 6.5x but I'm not convinced Golbez will live to see the fallout of it gonna be interesting to see what happens.
Ramble over :9
I think we're just going to get Golbez with Azdaja as the next trial in the same way we got the Ryne-Shiva with Hraesvelgr phase last expansion.
We were told that the Endwalker story was going to stop at 6.4 instead of .3 like usual, with .5 as the only preparatory patch for 7.0, and if all trials aim to be part of MSQ now, it's likely that the .5 trial will be part of a new storyline, like how baelsar's wall had nothing to do with heavensward for example, although that was a dungeon.
Well now we don’t have…
Meanwhile in the imperial capital…
Anymore 😂
My thoughts were that events at the beginning of next expansion would center around Zero. She has a connection to Zenos, is growing a relationship with us now, and has a backstory connected to future content if the fall of the 13th is really the leading plot line. She's the past, present, and future of the whole thing.
My wild prediction is that Zero, with her amnesia and name, might be Zeromus without knowing it somehow. Either she has the power of Zeromus trapped inside her as a Reaper or that she's similar to us in that we have Azem's energy inside us. That said, I haven't beaten FFIV yet, so… I'm probably way off on what Zeromus is and how they played into the OG FFIV story.
Probably Golbez and maybe Proto-Babil?
Golbez & Zeromus
2:57 The Ascian responsible for the fall of the Thirteenth was Igeyorhm – who we perma-killed in Heavensward. Back then, the Ascians worked solo, with one on each shard. They only started working in pairs after Igeyorhm went too far on the Thirteenth. The idea being that they could keep each other in check, and thus prevent any similar mistakes.
Also, Yoshi-P has said that 6.X is a self-contained arc that will be completely resolved by 7.0. So Golbez is definitely getting offed within the next two patches, and the next villain is completely unrelated.
