controller is best for melle
only 40% lol like thats not almost half the player base any way great vid I can't play mouse and keyboard due to injures so I hope they continue the amazing controller support!
Proud controller player here, never could play on keyboard not gonna lie.but that’s fine, since you can just play on what you prefer. It’s just personal preference at this point.
LOL Controller vs Mouse and Key Board?
I'm verse so I can do both
I love that I can play the game with a controller, I wouldn't go back to M&K.
I used to use Standard camera as a WoW refugee, but it just never felt right for this game.
The range for what "in front of you" is about 90 degrees while in WoW, it's 180 degrees. so instead of just having your character be lower on your screen than the enemy, you have to really think about your angle,
There's also the heavy emphasis on movement mechanics in FFXIV. You need to be able to move quickly and keep watch on the boss at the same time. Having to turn just to be able to walk backwards at full speed is an extra layer of complexity. Compounded with the point that you can't even attack unless you're facing directly at the enemy, and it just doesn't feel as good for Savage.
The only issue I had with Legacy before was the fact that moving to the side also rotates the camera around a point. I hate in any game when the camera is moved without my permission, and it was the only time I ever used an addon in game. Just to disable that. Thankfully it was fixed with an update some time in Endwalker, so we're all good again.
Given that WoW doesn't even have a Japanese version, it's not surprising that they don't have the pre-existing muscle memory for Standard Controls.
I dont play with KBM is just not comfy. Same with WoW. Though ff14 controller support is way ahead. Also NA has a huge controller base. I honestly thought it was substantially lower like 10%. Japan numbers are very one sided. NA is 10% over half favoring KBM.
i've been controller all my life. even when i played games like runescape/maples story/ragnarok, mouse and pad were weird. plus i'm on ps4 so im locked to controller lol
If addons didn't exist, we still wouldn't have chat bubbles. Let that sink in.
See, here's the thing about addons…
SE really can't do anything about it unless you broadcast to the world you use addons outright like say, if you're caught streaming and seen using it. AFAIK that's literally the only way because addons as a whole is a completely grey area for SE. They'd need to physically be at your PC/Laptop's location and bust you for any other possible case of modding.
I started with keyboard, then wanted to try controller. Never went back.
Chat bubbles aren't in the game because Limsa and crowds
I've played exclusively on controller and I would say you can do 99.5% of what you can on KBM. The 0.5% is really like super high end optimization stuff that you really won't need unless you are greeding super hard.
Like one example is Ninja's shukuchi. With controller you can basically make it go forward or to a target. With kbm you can make it go anywhere you want, theoretically back to back within one gcd. This would possibly allow you to fit in one more GCD before having to disengage on certain encounters. Alternatively, you could just play Viper and plan your coiling fangs or whatever that skill was called.
Another usecase would be last second AM with Black Mage. Faster to just point and click as opposed to scrolling through targets.
I am Team Mouse and Keyboard. But I know more than one person who plays with a gamepad because of hand/wrist pain. I pray I never come to that point…
Free trial here. I used to play on keyboard for 2 years. Not gonna lie it hurt my wrists even the mouse with buttons 🤣
This year I can't use my laptop due to ac adapter died and I started playing on PS4 with new main alt acc this summer.
At first, I was having hard time adjusting the cross-hotbar and job rotation esp WHM since people said being healer on controller is hard. But later on it's manageable and I nailed it! Esp auto target the MT while focusing on boss and do medic 2/cure 3 for upcoming raid wide aoe. Same goes for WAR and DRK main, it's fun playing on controller but not for everyone it seems
Just had to improve my muscle memory I guess haha
I play on my PC and use a controller when I play FFXIV. It's very comfortable especially when playing melee.
Most of my Japanese FC mates use a パッド (controller) they call it. I too sometimes use it from time to time when I just want to relax.
To say it "only" 40%, 33%, I dunno, thats actually quite a large portion of community.
Imagine your chance of getting into car accident today at 40% or 33%, that sounds rather high, doesn't it?
Started the game on keyboard and mouse, and had some success with it including savage content. What made me switch was trying to solo Kugane Castle as Blue Mage. I realized just how much i was clinging to my mouse, and how uncomfortable it felt to press buttons at times. Switching to controller felt like being a sprout again. Which was surprisingly refreshing. Can definitely recommend giving it a try, but also advice giving it some time to establish muscle memory.
I am a controller user yeah
"the feature takes quite bit of time due to technical problems". The addons devs must be the Gods of coding then…
I'm PC with controller. I'll be honest, I don't understand how some of you play with mouse and keyboard. GW2 and Baldur's Gate 3 are the only games I play on keyboard and mouse and I still struggle with it years later in GW2.
controller gameplay explains why ff14 gameplay style is being dumbed down so hard though. the stats make so much sense now.
I switched to legacy a week ago….finally survived Honey B Lovely's heart phase. It wasn't a skill issue after all.
I've played MMOs with KBM but for FF14 I've tried KBM so many times before but i just can't get used to it, gamepad is still the way to go for me, it's just more intuitive.
Genuinely never understood people using standard and not legacy. I’ve tried using standard in battle content, and just to run backwards is so much more work than just pressing S.
Played MMO's for over 25 years using mouse and keyboard. One day I decided to try the FFXIV controller setup and never went back. I still use my mouse and keyboard for other things like selling stuff or managing inventory but for combat even in savages or extremes or ultimates using a controller works well.
Ff14 is the only game where I don’t need addons to enjoy it.
