I’m not an MMO person, normally, but maybe I can make a difference for the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV that has a free trial which includes the entirety of A Realm Reborn AND the award-winning Heavensward expansion up to level 60 with no restrictions on playtime.

  1. This isnt advice so much as it's just me sharing my personal experience.

I also went warrior as my first class and I rarely like helmets video games. So… since I've had experience with RPGs before, I knew it wouldn't be too much trouble to not rush upgrading my head piece. So I wore that very same eye patch you're wearing up, until I unlocked the ability to glamor it over future better helmets! Now I make it a thing to have a unique eye patch for every job I play. There are quite a few in there all really cool designs. Even for healers

  2. Glad to see you watched the opening movies! Once you have time (and if you're interested at all, of course) you might want to watch the opening to 1.0, if only to see the gorgeous visuals again.

It isn't necessary, and it isn't spoilery, it's just fun if you wish to see it. At most, it will give you a visual to a backstory event that otherwise only gets mentioned (but is nonetheless explained). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opQjN74Meec

  3. Probably a billion people already commented on that, and maybe even myself in a previous video, but it's worthy repeating:

    Priority of quests are:

    1) Job quests. They unlock skills. You don't want to reach level 40 and have a hard time because you forgot to pick up a really useful skill at level 15 because it required a job quest. Do your job quests as soon as they are available. They show up on the UI right below the MSQ.

    2) Main Scenario Quests (MSQ). Everything in the game is locked behind the MSQ. New zones, new story, new unlocks, new quests, EVERYTHING! Advance them often, and don't worry about XP. MSQ alone give you enough XP to reach the level cap of the respective expansion (or 50 for the ARR portion of the game). Sometimes even on multiple classes, if you have any external source of XP bonus, like the Endwalker pre-purchase earring, food, or Free Company (aka, guild) buffs. MSQ is always visible on your UI for a reason, and you need to tackle it often and frequently.

    3) Blue quests. Those always unlock SOMETHING for you. Optional zones, optional dungeons, entire game systems like glamour or materia, and so on. If you see a blue quest, it's probably a good idea to save some time to do them. Some blue quests upon completion will make the same NPC spawn a yellow quest, and that just means that storyline is not finished, and you can proceed with the quest chain if you found it interesting, but there will be no new unlocks.

Yellow quests are 100% optional, and the common consensus is to save as many of them as you can to level up other jobs later, since by then you'll not have access to MSQ XP to boost through those initial levels, and those optional quests means you can skip some dungeon grinding while learning some world flavor.

  4. 24:52 the main story was buffed last August to actually overlevel you by a reasonable margin all by itself; blue quests [like you found right after] are Unlockables and nigh universally are good to do, but normal yellow quests are entirely just small lore insights, if even that

  5. Me when i play RPG always go for a support or mages. Early AOE clears makes up for the difficulty in doing solo late. I mean, i prefer doing damage from afar or just hit as many as i can even if they try to target me and im soft like im wearing tissue armor lmao.

additionally, i like making my characters to look different from what they are supposed to. like a big hulking priest/mage or a tinyweeny guardian

  6. I was really excited seeing that you began your journey through Eorzea because I value your opinion and you seem like the kind of person who immediately picks up on the game's themes and influences. Your speculations and opinions are something I already look forward to.
I also have to commend you on how well you can read the pirates' dialogues. You make it sound so effortless and genuine. Wow!

  7. 1:01:00 Is that a… Clone High reference? God I loved that show so much as a teenager. Just seeing anyone else remember it existed makes me happy.

Overall an entertaining video! Love the effort you put into these. Though watching you exclaim how you can't teleport anywhere from the Marauder's Guild because you have no other aetherytes and then walk right past the Culinarian one without activating it fills me with pain. XD

  8. Youtube seems to have deleted my original comment so here we go again, this time with censoring

I love that cinematic, the old Elezen who saves the MCs is Louisoux Leveillur, he is important.
Killing the lambs is the WORST!!
'BONK!' you don't go to h-rny jail you go to h-rny HELL.
My favourite starting location is Ul'dah, but Y'shtola makes a strong case for Limsa.

  9. Just a small bit of advice, it’s very helpful to zoom you’re camera out quite a bit. The aoe’s are gonna get big, so that camera being as zoomed in as it is will screw you over later on

  10. I do love all the subtle similarities and visual callbacks. The quest party riding in on Chocobos… Bahamut basically entering in as the Meteor spell… And, you know, Cid. Just, you know, Cid, period.

    … Oh… oh my heart. Nostalgia, spare me… T_T

  11. The intro movie is confusing for new players. I had no idea what it meant.

But remember, FFXIV version 1.0 sucked. And had to end it and redesign a new game, FFXIV: A Realm Reborn.

The cataclysm at the start of the trailer is the end of FFXIV ver 1.0. Everything was destroyed. But the old guy teleports the heroes to FFXIV:ARR, a much better, world.

  12. I first saw the Realm Reborn cutscene/trailer as part of one of those 'one hour epic cinematic music' videos (Epic Music VN 2012, I think it was), and the music they chose to fit to it made it so much more exciting (in my opinion, at least) that I was a bit disappointed when I saw the original.

  13. FFxiv has a lot of dna from xii
and it becomes more obvious as you start fighting enemies and getting further in the game, in fact for ARR specifically some of the voice actors from xii were brought back

  14. The Quests with the meteor icon are important. Those are the Main Story Quests (MSQ) that you require to progress the game at all. These are technically already enough to get xp, specially on a preferred server.
The quests with the blue background and the + are quests to unlock new features. They give new duties (dungeons), commands, goodies, added gameplay and allow you to join new guilds. You can be every class and job in the game on the one character, but it is your choice if you want to. It is recommended to do the blue quests when you run into them, though.
All the others are sidequests and offer flavor, background and amusement.

Definitely keep on top of your class quests. In the earlier expansions certain abilities were tied to completing those and you won't have them unless you complete the quests.

When you hit C, you open your character screen and the paperdoll with all your currently equipped stuff. Mind you can wear 2 rings ;D
As a Marauder/Warrior, for stats you ought to focus on the things like Critical Hit, Direct Hit, Determination, Strength and Vitality.
Mind, Piety, Intelligence and such are meant for the casters.
Your equipment has a button of a blue figure that is marked 'Equip Recommended'. This will automatically equip all your best stuff for your class currently in your armory chest.

If the AoE effects are getting overwhelming ( and they will ) there is an option in the system settings that will allow you to select so that only important effects from your own party will be visible rather than every single flash and explosion.

  15. Long story short you don't need to waste your time with regular quests. You can focus on the Main Scenario (quest icon with a little fire around it) and you'll be fine

  16. You can unlock all classes on one Character but with exception of the Classes that got added in expansions Classes in general start at Level 1 so Mr. FInder of False Gods can be a Level 5 Rogue and maybe a Level 50 Dragoon.

  17. Personal recommendation if you want a 1.0 lore recap, is to find the "Waning of the 6th Sun" video on youtube. It's around 19 minutes long, but it's one of the best lore recaps (it's also voice-acted by David Lodge)

  18. I am just so thrilled to see you in the game, Sky! 😀 It is great to see that you've given it a shot, and considering your vast knowledge of the franchise and genre, I think you'll really super enjoy this. 🙂 Also think I ran past you the other day on Spriggan. ^___^

  19. 4:10 To answer you, that is the opening for A Realm Reborn. So, A Realm Reborn, which is what you are currently playing, is not the original FFXIV. The original game was seen as a disaster on all sides, so they remade the whole game. What you saw in the opening movie was the event that ended FFXIV 1.0 and began FFXIV 2.0, also known as A Realm Reborn, giving the whole game a overhaul. Also, the group of 5 in the opening is the Warriors of Light, supposed to represent all players who played back in 1.0.

  20. 5:35 Oh! About that, Sephirot is not in it, but there is an optional boss fight against a creature called Sephirot. I have no idea how to access it or anything, I just know it exist and what it looks like.

  21. Yeah you can just ignore side quests and do the main story/scenario quests, as you're on a preferred sever you'll overlevel em anyway unless you pick up a different job

And yes the cinematic was the conclusion/epilogue of the original ff14

  22. RE: The Warriors of Light reappearing in the opening movie — yes they did get teleported through time, 5 years into the future. This actually technically also happens to all the 1.0 players from the original version of the game who chose to bring our characters forward into A Realm Reborn.

Our version of the opening actually plays with our character appearing in the same pillar of light in the middle of the forest, looking around, and then heading towards whichever starting city we picked on foot. We don't get the boat or carriage intros new players got.

  23. Everyone else has already given their advice, but here's some extra. The hunting log is the best way to level a new class to level 15, where you then start heading to dungeons to level up. However, if you have Main Sequence Quests to do at your level, those are the fastest way to level your favorite class, but you can only do them once, so you'll only be doing them for your main class, hence the hunting log.
Combat near the beginning of the game is quite dull, but as you progress you'll get more and more abilities you'll get to use, such as fell cleave, and fell cleave again. Eventually, you'll have to do raids with a party. There are some tutorials on the internet, but to dispel any tank anxiety you may have now, here's my 2 cents. By the time you're doing your first dungeon, you'll have an aoe and your tank stance. Always have tank stance on unless there is another tank in the party, that lets you keep aggro. To aggro enemies, tag them with your aoe, and if there are more than 3 of them left, continue to aoe them until they die to keep aggro. If you get bored, you can aggro multiple packs of enemies, and if there's a blackmage in the party, they'll appreciate it. Also, use rampart and similar abilities when you feel, try not to stack them though, healers only have so much mana.
