  1. The changes to a more "static" rotation has me tempted to leave Dragoon for Monk. Monk looks super fun to play now. The constant timers and drift is the one thing that turned me off from the job. May just be my braindead Dragoon rotation muscle memory speaking, though.

  2. Thank you PB! Been learning from you since I started SHB monk.

Rotation is going to feel different for sure. Rip Optimal drift but no overcap now is amazing. I think in terms of utility, the change to Chakra usage for Six sided star is Great! While overlooking the long recast timer, To my understanding, monk didn’t have a way to use 1-4 chakra balls. I could be wrong. I’m assuming we not only can buff SSS but we don’t have that annoying feeling of wasted chakra by the end of a fight. Having 1 crit away from doing another Forbidden chakra as the boss died. It’s small change but the change is very thoughtful.

  3. The funniest thing is Retaining the buffs kept me engaged but I will still play job when I come back. I always liked the idea of punching a god in the face.

  4. I personaly really like the current monk, has been my main since the second tier, with time i honestly learned to like the complexity of tracking the buffs and dots and when i heard the changes i didnt like it at first, but also at the same time the dot/buff having such a low duration, i think that it makes adding new things to monk a bit harder, like in the current rotation if you were to add new gcds(which iam assuming that riddle of wind or at least the riddle of fire follow up is gonna be instead of ogcds) you would kind of break the flow of mainting the buff/dot, they would have to change timings, make those new skills extend the dot or buff duration or get rid of it entirely. I wanna be optimistic but iam kinda worried i wont like the changes much, but its certainly gonna be fun to at least try it out at lv100.

  5. I'm not optimistic about it tbh. I really hope I'm wrong since it was my first job and still is my favourite but I really think this is going to take away from optimisation since you're essentially forced to press the upgraded buttons when they're up and charge them when they're down.

  6. Anybody doomsaying is either new to monk or suffers from short-term memory loss. I'll have to put a longer post on here when i get home, but this isn't terribly different than what we've had in other rotations.

  7. I've been the whole of Endwalker thinking that monk was really cool, but yeah, keeping track of the timers was (one of the things) keeping me from really giving the job a go. I think moving the timers to a gauge is definitely going to make the job more accesible and I'm kind of excited to try it now.

  8. Dots are on the way out of FFXIV, so many classes have lost them and I don't doubt Dragoon will lose theirs too. Tracking them without addons is a nightmare and the ingame UI just wasn't good enough. So removing them is the simpler option, easier for newer players and less second guessing when you should dot or not.

  9. Six-Sided Star does consume chakra stacks. You can see that in the Job Trailer. It consumes the one Chakra that is there before the Monk in the video uses Riddle of Earth, Wind and Fire. While I do believe that it will just be a "use Chakra before downtime" move, but depending on the potency gain per stack, there is a possibility of SSS being a final move to absorb the Chakra overstack before Brotherhood ends (since the ten chakra is only while Brotherhood is active.) But we have no numbers, so that's just a theory.

I also feel, again, depending on potencies and fight design, Monk's rotations may change heavily from fight to fight. Firstly, it takes 12 sets of 3 GCDs to loop back to DK -> Twin -> Demolish, but at 1.94s GCDs, that is just under 70s, which means no one will fully loop a GCD rotation because Riddle of Fire windows will interrupt it. So, depending on how the fight progresses, it may be better to cut the rotation to reup Coeurl stacks before all three are used to optimize DPS in fights.

  10. People: they killed monk
Me: cool I don’t have to juggle too many buffs and be pissed at whenever a boss decides to throw a cutscene at me or if ping decides to fuck me in the ass.

  11. Everyone RIPing MNK and Nishibro just saying they made MNK playable sent my sides into the orbit.
As far as I'm concerned, the moment they nuked the positional identity of MNK was the day I was ready to consider anything CBU3 does to it afterwards just fanfics of a job design.
