Its easy to tell when a BLM messes up their rotation cause you hear too much ice sounds. Or for ninja you hear mudra sounds but no bang or whoosh at the end and you know theres a bunny on that persons head.
I'd like to imagine that this was done on purpose so Soken can sync up music with like rotations so its a whole interactive experience between gameplay and music
Wait that thing about having one finger keeping the GCD while others handle oGCDs is actually so perfect. I play RDM, and all my core spells (fire, thunder, aero, stone) are on my mouse, handled by my thumb. Almost everything else is on my left hand. I play guitar; my right hand is my picking hand so it's used to keeping tempo, and that motion is even driven by my thumb pushing the pick (on a downstroke). I actually use a trigger for raid countdowns on that "10 seconds!" chat message to play a short audio clip of a metronome, so I can hit my 5s precast perfectly.
imagine being able to hear mistakes in someone else's rotation based on sound. this player doesn't need act. act needs THEM
Zepla clearly has two bunnies inside, rather than two wolves.
I get the game play comparison to music and that works just fine but It doesn't have to be music. Because music isn't the finale or beginning of anything conceptually. I have thought that maybe people like music because it represents life to us. Little beats that by themselves are random but when situated in a pattern we as peoplae can work in harmony with them both by ourselves and with others. Music doesn't have a monopoly on things like patterns and rhythms.
Someone who knows their job well enough can tell when someone does things wrong based off sound because the timings sound certain ways. like ninja always has dink dink dink before a ranryu or suiton but only two dink's for a raiton. knowing there should be a trick in a certain spot or not hearing the sound effect for raiju at certain spots is very very recognizable when you also play the job well
…when he mentioned that he and his friends used weapons similar to their main FFXIV jobs in MHW, I felt echos of that. I’m a RDM main, but one of my best characters in my Soul Calibur 3 days was Raphael, whose weapon is… a rapier. I swear my entire life was predicted via middle and high school obsessions ahdjabdjsosnsgjsdk
(God help me if we get a new job class that uses the same weapons as Talim tho homg. Might actually make a self insert wol.)
inb4 SOKEN CONSPIRACY wiring our minds to EMBRACE THE MUSIC
edit: We NEED a kind volunteer to change every single type of Rotation into music which can be changed into different genres..,
so we know exactly what type of Music Each Class/Job listens too.., Id Love to Know what a INFINITE PARADOX BLM sounds like..,
Edit2: Tootally not a BLM with a SideProfile AdventPlate with a Sneer..,
Hell yea, another one picked. Thanks Zep. I know nothing about music but I’m a fighting game and music rhythm game player and this made me understand why I enjoy the combat in FF14 so much.
I love Matt's discussions on the Belluar channel. He so good at putting words to feelings. Like, why these jobs just feel so good and why people connect with them so much.
So I chose to be a SAM main not because of how much I enjoy it and being a massive weeb (Don't get me wrong those are HUGE factors) but the idea that being a "greedy" job means I take responsibility if I don't meet the damage or whatever is a good self motivator to me. I don't know, I feel like with greedy jobs you're forced to take responsibility more for screw ups instead of finding easy outs which is what makes SAM my personal class. BLM is appealing for that aspect as well but from a casual gameplay experience I find RDM MUCH more fun/easier, so I guess it's a combination of preference and gameplay to make an FF job be THE job for you.
Thank you for the compliments on the video! Matt and I worked hard to best represent how the GCD and rhythmic nature of button-pressing in XIV feels and It's grand to see it appreciated!
watching this video made me realize that I need to play with sound. I have always played without sound since I loose myself I cant focus on where I'm going. or where I need to go. and yes this also includes shooting games.
I like fighting games.
I picked up XIV over the pandemic!
I was surprised to hear it too 😂
I don't think dancer was explained well in its initial quest. Once I understood what was going on, it's been my main. It just clicks with me. I can tank and heal to a reasonable degree, namely because I have the gear.
I like machinist because it uses guns. I don't really think about anything else.
This is correct. I'm a fighting game player that picked up FFXIV during the pandemic and it became my most played game ever.
"Imagine being in a group with some guy that has the sound FX on so he can listen when you make a mistake" [sweats nervously in bgm 0 ambience 100 sfx 100]
I'm not toxic I don't do that!! But I completely understand the "nope that person is playing it wrong, I can hear it"… after you've played with the BGM off for a long time and you've levelled most classes, you know how they're supposed to sound… (But I don't call anyone out, that's mean)
FWIW I play BGM every first time and enjoy the BGM outside of duties. Soken is a master of his craft. It's very distracting for me because I will jam out to the music and ignore mechanics, so I have to turn the BGM off often in combat. Plus a LOT of mechanics actually let out an ambient noise, so for me as a largely PF player, it's easier for me to listen to that ambient noise and react to a mechanic when I don't have call outs.
he's absolutely right about the sound giving away the rotation, if you've memorized it. I know this as a ninja. then again im also a musician so I hear everything
This is why a lot of bard mains (self included) got mad about the EW changes. DoT ticks were our extra metronome.
"Pressing a button like duh…duh…duh…" Yall wait to press the buttons…? 😖
>Listening to someones attacks to know when they do the rotation wrong
"I am become ACT destroyer of friendships"
honestly as someone who started as a fighting game player i kinda agree with this
Not only did they make the skills so intuitive to play as a rhythm, it works incredibly well on game pad! They were some how able to fit 4 hot bars worth of skills on a controller in such a way that I often don’t even need to look at the bars on my screen to get through a gcd rotation, allowing me to focus on positioning and avoiding aoes. It’s so well done I wish all other MMOs would just straight up copy the system.
