  1. 2:05 – This was me, too. Back when ShB was being announced and we were speculating about the possible addition of a healer, I remembered thinking Chemist, MAYBE Dancer, and Sage were the only ones I could think of with a strong basis in Final Fantasy lore, but I dismissed Sage as basically being…well…Red Mage using Black and White magic. I honestly thought RDM (before SB) could be a future healing Job because it would basically be WHM, just with Fire/Thunder instead of Stone/Aero (remember I'm talking Heavensward timeframe when I was thinking this) and having some melee abilities and possibly En- spells (e.g. Enfire) that could be party buffs. Considering ARR/HW/SB healers spent a lot of time DPSing, RDM as a healing Job would make sense in that context.

Sage, as well as the similar Jobs like Magus, are basically promoted/higher tier Red Mages, so I kind of dismissed them for that reason, same as you.

Funny that a few of us DID effectively call Sage, just we didn't think it made sense in FFXIV terms given RDM already being in the game and being made a DPS. XD

  2. 2:47 – This is a fair assessment. If you look in the past at Dark Knight and Samurai, Samurai had previously occupied a tank or atleast a more beefy frontliner role whereas Dark Knight was always a chunky DPS from how I remember them. Basically like a reverse Paladin, instead of focusing on defense they just focused on offense.

  3. My bet is that the melee job is a scythe wielder called Netherseer. Personally I'd love them to explore Gaia's mace wielding aesthetic as either time mage/oracle or geomancer.

  4. I'm not super familiar with the final fantasy series, but I'd really like a healer in ffxiv that healed allies for the damage they deal, kinda like monks did in MoP

  5. i think 14's sage suits the sage theme very well. Historically in fantasy even outside of final fantasy sages have been masters of ancient magic. It just happens that in 14's case ancient magic means aether technology and pew pew floaty laser thingies. lol Two examples being Sharlayan and Allag.
