THE EXPEDIENT EFFECT! Fanfest Negativity is too high! [FFXIV 6.55]

Final Fantasy XIV just had it’s fanfest showcase pictomancer and viper and talk about beastmaster and upcoming content and player feelings seem to be too negative and negative to a point that I’m fully convinced that we’re going through expedient effect for Dawntrail. I’m confident when we get ahold of the actual classes they will end up being WAY better than we currently think!

  1. Hear me out, I'm the first person to say Endwalker hasn't given me new content to engage me in (I've mentioned it on this channel before). But I think we're being WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too negative about the new fanfest announcements.

  2. What I love about the pictomancer is that it comes directly from ff6, which despite its story, its a cute class inside a game with a dark context.
The complains about how "it does not fit" the world, are kinda dumb considering that the dancer was included in shadowbringers, the darkest expansion so far.
Also, saying that it wasn't as cool as other clases is taking it the wrong way, not every class has to be "cool" (eventhoug it is in its own way), and nobody really forces you to play with it.
I think the negativity comes from expectation, people that don't really understand what is the expansion about, but that want more things like endwalker or shadowbringers, which is not bat, but their not allowing devs to have creativity 😛

  3. For myself, I am hesitantly excited for pictomancer but I just don’t have any faith it’ll feel mechanically unique. As is classes overlap so much barring one or two gimmicks, it just feels like a matter of aesthetics sometimes

I’m sure the differences are more pronounced in higher level play, but as someone who doesn’t play ultimates a lot of the classes feel so same-y.

It also doesn’t help that overtime anything that made a class complex or interesting to play has been stripped away. The mechanics for Eos and Selene, all the unique effects and interactions for the Astrologian’s cards, Arcanist/summoner pets being able to tank and draw aggro, etc.

That’s kind of why I feel beastmaster’ll just be blue mage with an extra gimmick or two. Pets used to have pretty cool mechanics but they haven’t used those in years, and classes atm tend to be seriously lacking in a sense of identity (if not aesthetics)

  4. I'm just sick of square saying they are going to make a unique never seen class to final fantasy and then claim a glorified Zidane mash up is something they came up with, or gunbreaker isn't just Squall the class.

Pictomancer has a bit of obnoxious VFX, they are very fitting and cute, but it likely will make fights even more cluttered, i'd like to be able to have VFX on but sometimes you just get blinded by all the skill spam, and it looks like the paint VFX is on a layer above everything else.

I dont really care how they implement Beastmaster, i'm excited to see what they do with limited jobs because it means that they wont be balanced enough for regular content and gives them the freedom to explore outside the confines of the trinity.

I'm happy with the announcements of anything new, even if I may not like it, and am just taking FFXIV slow as i've burnt out trying to grind out various filler content.

  5. I think beast master will be a test like blue mage was……to integrate certain elements in game. With enough data you can basically improve the scripts for pets/summons in a way that works without players micromanaging everything. Im more positive for the jobs, many of my friends would do the pictomancer alone because they like to draw and such job has a special appeal to them.

  6. My guy, can you really blame the pessimism? These devs do the bare minimum laziest thing. Re-using assets constantly, making the jobs feel all the same, the 2 minute buff window, the Criterion/Variant dungeons having no rewards or being vastly too hard or too easy. For a lot of people Endwalker was a let down.

  7. My only negativity is that it feels like they are keeping a lot of QoL just hostage of "priority" and "please look forward to it" jail. Do they need a bigger team? What is holding them back? And if Dawntrail has the same content cycle without anything to shake things and Viera/Hrot STILL have no hats? The houses still having pillars? The menus / friendlists needing work, building space slots.. A lot of npc emotes being held hostage for years. The list goes on. The draw of a new wall to wall pull dungeon doesn't really have that shine if it doesn't come with somekind of new fix or feature as a sidedish. The new classes look decent, the world looks decent for Dawntrail, beastmaster while being limited will introduce a cool mix. Initial thoughts, expansion will be great if the story is great and the open world content is engaging enough. If there's QoL in the afterpatches, it will be excellent. Graphical update will be a nice start of this new era, hope they keep it up with stuff like character customization etc.

  8. When I saw the Dawntrail trailer and the nature aesthetic of it, I was hoping for a Druid with the new announcement of a caster class. They end up just giving me Kirito with a Paintbrush. It's just disappointing… Kudos to anyone that like it. Its just not for me.

  9. People who hated Expedient were FFXIV only players and didn't play other MMOs, like WoW and had no knowledge of "Stampeding Roar" and how fucking GOAT'd move speed is in an MMO.

Edit: Aren't end game content droughts a given for FFXIV at this point?

  10. You bringing up Trance actually opened up my mind a lot about the job! I am very sure out of all dual blade characters Zidane is the one they are basing the class off of. So there is a good chance that Trance will be incorporated in the job And I think that alone would give it the flashy looking flair that people are craving for the class.

  11. I like the aesthetics of both of these new classes and will gladly pick them up. I’ll admit I don’t hate ninja or dragoon, but I don’t enjoy playing them. Reaper has given me a reason to collect that gear set. I’m sure viper will as well to get scouting gear. They both look like fun classes to me. As for beast master, there’s no reason to think it wouldn’t be a pet class a la 2.0. People are so negative all the time. If they can’t find enjoyment, don’t let them take yours. You do you, my man.

  12. Maybe it's because I'm new, only starting a year ago, but I'm nothing but excited after all the fan fest reveals. Dawntrail will be my first time playing an expansion on release, and I haven't been this hyped about a game in a long time.

  13. Beastmaster negativity is honestly 1000% warranted tho I REALLY wish they got rid of the limited job system cause regardless of anything it’s gonna be held back by the lack of content (the content it won’t be able to enjoy) and it also means people who were looking forward to the job gets shuffled off to old content no one really cares about but that’s just me…… A guy who wanted Blu but instead got the limited job system and other jobs I’m not too excited about anymore lol

  14. I love expedient but I was creased at that meme where someone put in the pit pat steps sound when the lala ran with it. But yeah people get heated when we haven't even got the job trailers yet. Also, I like BLU and I'm looking forward to beastmaster. I hope they do something similar with rewards for clearing raid tiers, although I'm not sure it'll be that kind of limited job? Who knows. Anyway, I feel like there's no point in getting upset when we have very little info about jobs at this stage.

(Note, I am not an overly negative person when it comes to games or content droughts. In fact I'm probably pretty lazy when it comes to ff. I still have mounts to get etc. I have been slacking on relics and playing other games and so on. I understand where other people are coming from though).

  15. I just hate Vipers name lmao. It doesn’t fit in with any other job in the game in terms of naming convention. I really wished it was named Thief or just something more fitting?

These two jobs are way way higher on the hype tier list then Reaper and Sage have been c:

  16. I agree with your point for the most part. Post endwalker has been lacking, and there has been a trend to complain about the game to make content. However, I feel like some of the complaints have very valid critiques.

Regarding fanfest job reveals, Viper looks underwhelming due to how it was revealed in correlation with expansion hype. For example, when reaper was revealed the job action trailer was very flashy in addition to anticipated world building around the job. Viper doesnt really give world building, just melee with two swords.

Personally, there are a few reasons why Im not excited about picto. Based off what was revealed I already know we are not getting a full job that is dot focused or pet focused. A niche playstyle that’s missing. Unless they reveal that it’s a dot class cause you make the enemy drink paint water. I am still excited to try picto because i love caster, just disappointed since there isnt a caster to fill that niche of dot/pet job. I need to see more. If the kit is complex then I would be very hype.

Similar reason to why I’m bittersweet about beastmaster. If they can make a pet class function, why give us discount original summoner? Yes I know it will play differently and be different and will most likely be a lot of fun. However, the job is a limited job.

I feel like your pet ai point is not a strong one. If they did make huge improvements to pet ai for beastmaster, then why cant it be a normal job?
