The Endwalker Relic and Missing Content Problem [FFXIV 6.4]

Yoshi-P did an interview prettymuch confirming tomestone grind is going to be how the ENITRE relic is going to be for Endwalker. I am just sad at this news and so let’s talk about it and my thoughts because we are really missing a HUGE chunk of more casual player midcore player friendly content in FFXIV right now and it’s a HUGE problem.

  1. Have you thought about trying unreal? Might be a little on the difficult side for you but Sophia is a really fun fight at 90. That’s pretty mid core. Or ASS.

  2. I'm tired of the whining.

The grind is the HIldibrand Quests. Given all the crying about those to get a Manderville weapon, that's plenty sufficient to leave the rest be made as simple as "Pay the man, get the widget". Take the opportunity to (a) catch up on what you passed previously or (b) DO SOMETHING ELSE.

    You're adults. Act like it.

  3. I just don't understand why it has to be extreme? They either lock the relocs behind stuff like Delubrum and Bozja/Eureka that requires other players, or they do this, the extreme opposite, where you literally do nothing to get them. You were already getying these tomestones doing regular content. It's to the point I sometimes forget to make sure I'm not over capping tonestones while grinding moogle tomes. What is that? I feel more atrached to, and like I earned the random glam in the moogle event than I do for the relic weapons. That completely defeats the purpose. The resistance weapons were frustrating to make but compared to this, I at least have an actual attachment to those because I actually had to earn them.

I don't know what is so hard about making relics require something that can be done in a solo friendly way as well so relics can be both, an achievement but also makes players do something alone or together, whichever grind route they prefer, that actually requires some actual effort from the player?

  4. I am hesitant to blame this on FFXVI and more lay the blame on the systems upgrades and such that they're working on, but I also just think it's laziness. We have Eureka Orthos and the Criterion dungeon things that they could have incorporated the rewards into, and they opted not to. Previous relics have drops from Deep Dungeons, why can't this one?
I love people telling me to go back and do the old relics or do the old content if I'm bored as if that's not like…so telling of the current issue. The fact that I'm supposed to go entertain myself with previous expansions content because the current one is just not up to snuff, but somehow that's not an issue to these people.
My other lol moment is when people claim that Bozja and Eureka are "dead" content. I'm like ??? I literally watched a stream today of someone in Bozja and it was hoppin. Maybe you gotta find the right data center or server to jump into it on, but that's what discords are for. People are still running Delubrum Savage and Baldesion Arsenal on the regular.

  5. Y'all need to stop making excuses and blaming everything but the actual devs of XIV. This isn't XVI's fault, this isn't some crazy out of their hands issue. This is strictly the XIV teams issue, they fumbled content in terms of retention this expansion, thats it. Period. The people working on XVI have not touched this game since Heavensward we've known that for over a year now. Once HW launched, the core team that made it went on to work on what now is XVI, everything else was handed down to the team that remained, or their under studies. Its unreal to me that people will find anything and everything to blame why XIV is in a rough patch other than blaming the team. The XIV team is one of the best, Yoshi-P is one of the best, but they are not perfect. They do fuck up, and they have fucked up with content this expansion, thats why no one has touched Criterion dungeon since the first week it came out.

  6. I'm sure that FF XVI has no negative effect on FF XIV Patch cycle and content. The reason is that Naoki Yoshida is producer for both games but not the game director for both games. He oversees certain parts but Hiroshi Takai is the game director and does the most of the heavy lifting together with his team. What effects FF XIV content and cycle is the preparation for the next expansion. the started with that probably after or parallel with Endwalkers QA. So i don't think that FF XVI has any effect at all.

Yes tombstones are boring and suck for crafters but there is one major problem i think a lot of people don't mention. Wih group content like Bozja or solo content like Island Sactuary or Variant dungeon. There is always a group who plays this content non stop and tries to optimize everything. Some of these people release guides and spreadsheets with the shortest and best route to optimize the grind. A lot of people use these guides and spreadsheets because the want the new shiny weapon asap. What happens is everyone uses one or two methods to get want the want quickly. Because a lot of people do that, they finish the content very fast and based on how much the want they are done as soon as they get one thing out of it. We saw this with Bozja, how fast the player base for this content dropped and not new players who reach the content barely get groups to play with. This happens everytime and if you ask for more group content, you have to do it in the first weeks otherwise you have problems later. For players who can't play the game that often for multiple reasons, they have a harder time. There is not a really good solution, if you take something that casual solo players can do, it's boring for group players. if you make it group content, solo casual players are screwed because the content is dead after a while. It sucks but everytime there is a fancy prestige reward people tend to optimize the way how to get the item and are done as soon as they have them.

  7. I mean… as much as I'm enjoying going through Eureka, I'm not really looking forward to doing the same thing with Bozja again. I'm kinda glad I can passively get the new relics while working on the old stuff…

  8. I'd describe Endwalker patch content as just fine. It's definitely not great though. Over time, it does feel like they are watering down content a lot, the job quests to role quests, less dungeons, less trials, no bozja zone, simplification of jobs, banning hats for some races to name a few. It does feel like they are choosing to water down stuff to avoid investing in and expanding their team to deal with the bigger workload that mmorpgs inevitably bring as they age. I understand they are working on some big changes for 7.0, but honestly I think it's gonna take more than a face lift to retain players after 10 years of the same old stuff.

  9. I joined FFXIV on the tail end of shadowbringers and even when there weren't many people spamming fates for the steps I had a blast doing bozja relics for the first time, and since endwalker is my first expansion experience one of the main things I was excited for was the new relic grind… So that I could actually take part in the steps as they came out…. Now it's just tomestones with nothing to do or work toward with other people, just do roulettes 🙁

  10. Endwalker was great as an expansion, it's just the 6.X series that's been meh in general. I'll wait a month before 7.0 to catch up at least there's FF16 coming next month 😘

  11. I have a lot of fond memories grinding bozja and eureka. I am a new player and just started around a year and a half ago so i am really lucky during this content draught as i still have stuff to grind. For older players who have completed eureka and bozja though, they literally have nothing to do anymore. I am worried about 7.0 now bc if this is how relic grinding is heading to, relic is just a fancier tomestone gear.

  12. I’m envious of people who actually have enough friends in this game that aren’t casual to the point of laziness or hardcore to the point of only logging in to do ultimate prog. Both these categories are full of people who just sit around town afk. Where’s the middle ground of players who actually log in every day and WANT to learn and try new things? I’m bored because people would rather sit on Discord spamming screenshots and memes about the game than actually play it.

I’m not getting my ass out of bed to grind a relic by myself again. I did it for ShB and they turned out to be hot garbage. I’ll gladly pay a small sum of tomes upfront this time around until I see better designs.

And no more fucking light farming.

  13. Loved Eureka, bojza is my personal hell, but yeah, the lack of exploration zones is really messing with folks. I dont mind it personally. Not every expansion needs one, but I dont believe they fully fleshed out what they'd release to keep everyone busy. Also, I'm of the belief that exploration zones and relic grinds should've never been mixed and it seems the devs have realized why, despite it being a nice concept, just doesn't work, especially with a system FF14 has.

  14. Considering the long series of quest of hildibrand antics to unlock EW relic quest line. The 1st and 2nd step is pretty much acceptable tho I doubt the last step will be as easy as tomestone grind. The one step keeps occuring on relic quests is aether/light farming so i can guess theyll add that on last step.

  15. they could just make it so the Material drops-directly EurekaOrthos (the actual material, not 500tomes). Or other areas.

Also would be nice if they do more with the FATE-vouchers… I would loooove to be able to trade in my extra WorldFATEtokens (chi bolts, danny orbs, archaoe, & formidable ). Also make it so killing the Forlorn/Maiden affects gemstones when @maxLevel; there's literally no reason for 90ppl to kill the forlorns (other than being nice to the otherppl FATE farming)

  17. Eureka is usually poppin, Bozja however, at least for my data center is pretty dead. So future proofing this relic questline via tomestones is fine. I absolutely hated Bozja.
