  1. there IS a difference between 1 button and 3 buttons. not so much the difficulty, but just the feeling, i see on healer how much more boring that is. that being said IF they would add more skills for the ones lost in the merging i would welcome the change. even if its just skills you rarely use.
i just dont want to have less buttons overall

its similar with positionals. if they remove them completely would they actually bring in something to replace that mechanic? i play dragoon and i love positional, i want them to go back though to give positionals more weight

  2. I honestly think what is happening for this "rocky period" is that Endwalker not only had the WoW Refugee's but it also had the Covid stay at homers hearing the hype around FF14 and used the free trial and then bought the expansions they needed. This is their first end of the expansion drought and I think people are leaving in droves because of that reason. Now the big question is…will they return? With Covid basically over, and people getting their resolution of ARR to Endwalker story, will they come back for the start of another 10 year journey? Will people who spent 10 years in this game want to start another 10 year journey with this game or move on? We'll see, but I'm predicting the downward trend of players will continue and we might end up around Stormblood numbers.

  3. I kinda agree with most things that lynx pointed out, expect the rant about cross class, attribute points and raid design and I think that if square enix continues with job simplification and catering to basically only casuals and new players, eventually the game will turn from 'game for everyone' to just an 'mmo for casuals' . I guess it is fine if they want to do it that way, after all it is their game, however it is sad for me to just accept that the game will no longer be made for me. Still I have hopes for Dawntrail and maybe after all the back end improvements in endwalker they will finally put the revenue into more midcore content in dawntrail.

  4. i personally feel like they should be done with 1,2,3 combos all together, fix the server lag and remake the jobs to be more interesting, less button bloaty and with each having its own unique identity and specialties. for me it's not about difficult or hard to play or if it's gonna be 100% balanced, it just needs to be fun over everything else and unique.
i remember back in wotlk every single spec was unique, some were good for pve, some for pvp, and all felt overpowered in their own way, you had some crazy dps classes for pve but the others still had a spot because of their passives and buffs or unique skills. with each of those classes u could also play around according to your needs with talent builds and set bonuses and gear stats. for me that added so much to the game and i wish ff14 would have moved towards that direction instead of making all jobs the same and the gear completely irrelevant.

  5. Im all aboard for a 1 button combo, i mean sam has it for its burst phases and its hella satisfying to execute, it would almost have to be an option being we are going to be 100 at dawntrail and are destined to get more abilities unless they delete previous for the new

  6. I agree with the position on 1-2-3 being as simple as 1-1-1. However, they really do need to give you more combos, positionals or interesting ogcd to weave as a tradeoff. Healers have a bunch of ogcd stuff to do in between the 1-1-1, which can keep things interesting. But when that doesn’t happen, it’s boring as heck.

  7. I wouldn't mind the 1 button thing, if it actually gave more comboes, but I don't have any faith that it would happen.
On that note, PVP is where I feel the jobs of ffxiv still have some their unique identities. Outside of PVP everything just feels too samey.

P7S is one of the worst fights in the game. The platform stuff doesn't matter because of how boring it is most of the time. The only reason I managed to stay awake during it, was because I had to optimise my cooldowns as black mage for mobility. I can't think of a single person who likes P7S. As melee dps, positionals are part of what keeps fights interesting, and that was completely absent.

If fights in general were designed differently, I think the healer experience would be much better. But the majority of the time, a healer is only hitting their attack GCD and using abilities. Some dungeons you don't even need to heal at all. If you get something like Antitower in dungeon roulette, and you play white mage as an example, you won't need any other healing than Assize and maybe 1-2 asylum. Rest of the time you are drooling while spamming Stone and Holy.
In alliance raids if you have an overzealous co-healer, you don't need to heal at all unless something catastrophic happens.
A majority of extreme fights could have been done with 1 healer, if healer stacks didn't exist.
In savage it becomes different, but even then you often have one main healer, and one healer who mostly just dps and support the other healer when needed.

  8. The only thing i want them to undo is the horrible tank balance largely caused by streamers.
Kinda fucking twofaced to now finally admit that your healing and utility on War matters now that you no longer do 1% less damage.

  9. I had not necessarily a moment of glory, but more a moment of redemption on PLD, if I do a dumb and don't have tank stance on in P11S, and someone else gets the tank buster, many would think: welp I'm dead. But many times have we all survived because I could cover them and take the first hit whilst invulning the 2nd. That felt good to pull off knowing that I could recover it. So those moments do exist albeit through imperfect play (which lets be honest is all the time)

  10. I guess PvP is braindead and those of us who get BH5 are just smashing 1 button and not using mechanical skill. The issue isnt how many button or w/e imo its that every class is the same – even in PvP – i may be all about stuns as a monk and displacing people but so are BLM with sleep its just a different flavor of stun – RPR is just BLM with a scythe when removing everything but mechanical design (Fuck flavor, fuck different names – what does it do mechanically? it stops you controling your character by removing all input – at least on WoW sheep was different from fear)

  11. Lynx cameli reminds me of old (like cata era) preach.
Basically in his 0,1% or whatever rank he played at echo-chamber where his perspective mostly formed.

Too bad then that you average joe who finances this game can't and never will be able to even fully play his job rotation correctly on a training dummy because he doesn't have the f@cking muscle memory for it.

Pinnacle content like ultimates will always be a niche of a niche (and if you want to be part of the parse community part of another niche), they will and should never cater to players like that too much, of course they shouldn't completely ignore them either.

  12. Removing positionals could also open up room for tanks to get more of a job. They can lead the boss into different and more interesting ways without needing to worry about fucking up melees.

Turn the boss to make the boss look at a mirror so it hurts itself with it's attack. Now tanks have a mechanic where they need to keep track of where the mirrors spawn.

Everyone except tanks gets locked in place. Now tanks need to make the boss look left so it's attack misses the people who are stuck. Then tankswap to make the boss look right so it misses again.

The boss is charging up an attack but it takes a lot of energy, hinted at by its voiceline. The tank starts making the boss run around a lot and it makes it fumble it's cast.

And so on and so on. Could make tank more interesting to play.

  13. While agreeing with most of the things he said. I'd just assume that "the game isn't even maintaining the difficulty it used to have, making it easier and easier" refers to the encounter difficulty being constant, while job designs become more and more simplistic.

  14. 30:55 "a game is not going to be made free, and be insanely popular, and continue to deliver content for free"

Team Fortress 2 is the only exception I can think to counter that. Even though content has slowed it still gets some.

  15. It’s so funny to see him complain about all the things that the game took away, cause with the exception of cone aoes all of those were gone long before Shadowbringers. Which, if you check his channel, is when he raided hardcore and made a video about how good the raiding was and how much better it was than WoW.

    What changed? 🤔

  16. That whole rant list of great stuff that was neutered was really just them removing janky bullshit from the game. Who missed old Cross Class abilities, where you had to level a bunch of jobs so you could get the correct BIS abilities, or the second version where you would just pick the 5/7 useful ones and forget about it. And stat allocation.. really? Dump main stat, put the rest in a side stat, such a deep player experience. Showing fucking palisade, that was in the game all of 3 weeks and then was canned because it was lame and pointless. When would the rDPS ever use fucking palisade?

  17. There are sporadic legitimate complaints in there, but most of this just comes across as like… you're so angry/upset about the game that just everything turns you off about it. It's basically like getting the ick over a game.

  18. man, I remember doing pld from 1.0 and kept main pld all the way until shadowbringers when I started doing War as well on par. I don't even think most people remember having to swap Sword Oath/Shield Oath, using Stoneskin as a pld for certain tankbusters like in Bahamut Coils Turn 9 or Turn 5, or EVEN having to Flash spam to hold hate properly with wall pulls when we didn't even have a proper AoE skill. Total Eclipse wasn't even a THING back then, only Flash was your AoE that did NO DAMAGE and help no good emnity unless you were doing attacks in between to all the monsters as you rotated. I remember being a good pld back then meant a hell load of work comparitive to today.

  19. On moment of glory.
Every class has them, I may not be playing right now because I dislike how they've designed healers (I've been playing since 2.3) over the years. But even then I know that every class can have a moment of glory, if the content is designed right you can have phases of fights done by different characters, but nothing feels better than in the last part of a massive fight and getting off a healer LB3 right when the boss does the raid wipe mechanic that needed the tank lb3, being the only one to actually die yourself from the raid wide, but saving the entire party in the process.

Moments of Glory shouldn't be manufactured, they are events that happened because of the special situation that you and your group find yourselves in, and every class can get it, every class can foundationally have these things because every class has things other than their main combat buttons. There's all those specialty emnty forced buttons, the ninja can basically alter who's focused targeting someone to save a tank, like you can do so much in this game because of that and these tools exist.

I think that "moment of glory" is misused by the OP. Because this game has these moments, and it's what we remember and why we played this game.

  20. Yes, Warrior did the pull during Heavensward with Unchained and lost almost no damage while generating a ton of enmity. Now, my co-tank back in the day was a warrior and he did not want to pull at all. That meant had to pull on DRK, and man, that shit felt bad, because it cost me so much damage. The thing I did – and the people that know what I'm talking about will shake their heads – after pulling I did one enmity combo on Grit with Dark Arts, and that generated enough enmity to compete with my butchers block spamming co-tank warrior. We tanked with an enmity difference literally one pixel on the meter at times. Sometimes I had to pop an extra Dark Arts Powerslash. It's worth mentioning we also did not always have a Ninja with us. And I was still able to hit purple to orange parses. Those were the days.

  21. I wonder if Xeno ever played PvP in FFXIV because there you have the 1-1-1 combos and simplified actions and imo that works for PvP, not PvE on most Jobs but it's funny that Xeno mentions GNB even though he also said that GNB is ruined (he is right about that, btw) since now the Burst Combo of GNB is just 1-2-1-2-1-2 .. instead of 1-C-2-C-3-C but truth to be told Continuation on Burst Strike is fucking Bullshit and the lvl90 Skill of the GNB doesn't even line up properly WTF!?
On the otherhand the 2minute meta works on some jobs better like NIN and SAM but what's important is that what you're doing within those 2 minutes is fun, for example Spamming Fell Cleave feels Good because it sounds powerful and is strong, Spamming Shinten? Fuck No! Where we were at Moments of Glory: For me, as a Samurai Main: Kaiten followed up by a Weaponskill, any of them since a Kaiten buffed Weaponskill is automaticly stronger and it makes the Kenki Resource feel important.. you don't get this feeling by Spamming Shinten like a Bitch! but back to the Warrior and AoE Shapes.. would it have been sooo bad if they just switched the AoE Skills around? like Mithril Tempest first and Overpower 2nd? would be an excuse to make Overpower Stronger. But also from a Samurai Perspective the Circle Tenka Goken sucks so bad! First you should require a target in order to perform an Iaijutsu, the New Tenka doesn't requires you to have a Target select what?.. and with the New Tenka Goken being a Circle the incentive to properly position yourself as Samurai is thrown out the Window and that goes against the Fantasy of a Samurai. A Samurai should properly position themself and Strike approciately regarding the Situation, Which is why we have Shoha 1 and Shoha 2, A DRG DGAF about that: Geirskogul, Nastrond, Twinwyrm Thrust! lol~ Now okay.. The New Big Tenka is funny.. but it still undermines the Fantasy of the Samurai but fittingly Samurai has been reduced into spamming Shinten like a Bitch!

About that Role Action stuff, yes I mostly agree with Xeno there though ARR was a different Game since it's success was uncertain. Which is why ARR incentivised you to lvl multiple Classes through it's Job System, which has been removed and tbh.. yeah it's fine.. IF ONLY THE JOB SYSTEM WOULDN'T BEEN LOCKED BEHIND THE MSQ!!! holy crap.. but yes aside of that it's fine and also the removal of selectable Cross Class Skills now being unlocked is fine.. I mean have you experienced early Dun Scaith? where the Healer didn't had Esuna because it was an DPS loss.. yes! it's been like that! but it's only fine that the Point Attonement is gone, when I played as SMN/SCH I had it 15/15 hell I had STR on my PLD because I wanted to be a Sword Fighter xD

Oh and about Positionals, yeah they can be removed, you still have Boss AoEs/cleaves and other shapes to dodge anyway. Just boil it down to a Buff Combo and a Burst Combo at this Point.. I'd be more supportive about Positionals IF THEY WOULDN'T HAVE REMOVED POSITIONALS FROM MONK! I mean Monk should be that Positional Mastery Monster, if the Monk isn't a Positional Mastery Monster what's the point!?

  22. Around 13:10 you said something awesoooooome!!! "hitting a positional would give you an extra gcd" it could be so cool that "if you hit the last positional of a combo, your gcd is reduce at 1sec" so the first hit of the combo is going faster, and it could be explained by the fact that the first move of a combo, as a good weapon master, you are training it since you are lvl 1. and it would increase the nervosity a bit, also it would get you impossible to use a ogcd after your 3rd hit combo, and force you to use it in between 1-2 and 2-3, so you would have to brain a bit and flatten your way to use ogcd and make the whole gameplay more smooth and nervous? o:

  23. I think having an invuln on a a tank isnt a moment of glory. A moment of glory is like using cover to save a party member. Or like in WoW you have classes that shine in certain fights, and mechanics that don't instant wipe the group so a few members could potentially finish the boss for that awesome epic moment. FFXIV has those they are just very few and far between

  24. 13:00 i agree that taking away positionals and adding 1-1-1 combos opens up space to add new things, but do you really think the devs would do that? Over the last 3 expansions they have consistently taken things away and added nothing back.

SMN is the perfect example of a job where they had a blank slate that they could do anything they wanted with and they decided to absolutely gut it instead. I would love for them to take away positionals and 1-2-3 combos but i have 0 faith that they would replace them with anything.

I've played MMOs for 23 years now, and whenever i hear someone say "maintaining the difficulty" That is utter complete fking bullsh!t. 99% of the time.
Classic WoW was supposed to be difficult, then when people went back to play it they realized its super easy. Because people actually get better at games the more they play.
Whenever i hear someone thinking they're criticizing a game based on its difficulty, they haven't seen modern WoW to Classic WoW. the game alienates players. Its BAD and WRONG advice.

  26. Pressing 1-2-3 combos is barely more engaging than pressing the same button over again- It's insane to me that the solution to healer gameplay being stale is to give them 1-2-3 combos. I might as well bind my glarebroil spell on 3 different slots and press one after the other. WHOA what an amazing and profound change to gameplay, I am not bored out of my mind anymore.

  27. I had a moment of glory on my paladin. Normal four-man dungeon. Last boss. Halfway through the battle, healer and one dps went down. It was only my paladin and a melee dps left. I had to heal the dps, myself and keep aggro. We won the fight by the skin of our teeth. Moral of the story? There are different ways to have a moment of glory. The healer and other dps was very impressed. 🙂

Until you throw us bads out of the game, it ain't changing.
