When they wrote Stormblood, the writer of Heavensward left to go write the FF16 story, so the Stormblood initial release story was written by 2 Writers (Ishikawa and Oda) which lead to several less optimal story moments. In the Stormblood patch content then Ishikawa was appointed main writer and Oda assistant and world builder. And this Duo then gave us the phenomenal Shadowbringers and Endwalker story.
Many forget this and give all credit to Ishikawa but if it weren't for Odas world building, she would have to work with barebones material.

Without spoiling I will say a lot (if not all) of your questions will be answered. Some sooner than others but answers are coming and in the main story quests. The thing is there are also answers outside of the main quest too. There is a major lore thing that happens in Shadowbringers but it's on a yellow quest.
I actually enjoy how they make minor changes to cut scenes depending on what side content you've done. For example meeting a character in HW is a little different if you've completed Coils because you've already interacted with them before. If you go to an inn and go to the cut scene book it'll have a check box to reflect you've done the thing or not.
Stormblood has shown me I have weird sexual preferences.

It’s not as good as HW. But it still is really good. Currently at 4.1 and cannot wait to hop in to continue the story.

When people ask you "what about Tataru" it is because many say she is the final boss for many expansions. 🙂 So they are not saying she will defeat so much as she is secretly evil and we will need to defeat her. They postulate this by her constantly having money, but nobody knows where it comes from – so maybe she is a primal or someone very powerful right under the player's nose.
Stormblood is when the dungeon design took a massive turn into what they are now. Huge, huge upgrade from ARR and HW
Not really spoilers but, there has been calamities in the past, each one felling a great nation. You don't learn about these in MSQ, more so in side stories and side content. Nym, for instance was a nation of great scholars which was wiped out by a great flood. Allagans also befell to a calamity of ice. As to why there are elemental aspects to the calamities and why Ascians are inciting them; you'll have to find out by playing more 😉
