Stop These Bad Monk Habits From Hurting Other FFXIV Rotations

Being a FFXIV monk main has caused some bad habits in other Final Fantasy 14 classes when it comes to being able to learn new job rotations. Today I decided to share my mistakes to help you analyze yourself as you are trying new class rotations to see if you have bad habits you can stop doing in FF14.

  1. The biggest obstacle monk has provided me when playing other jobs is trying not to sleep 😅 the fast pace of monk makes leveling other jobs feel like a slog! I can't get enough of punching darkness to death. Great vid as always!!

  2. It wasn't until I played black mage that I realized how much I move when playing other jobs. Monk taught me how important positionals are as melee dps. And magic dps taught me to be more patient. It's like you said. Playing tank, healers, and dps overall will make you a better player.

  3. That's one of my fav things about monk: I ignore the buttons because I know what to press 95 percent of the time and can (and have to) watch the fight and the positioning. But yeah, on other jobs you gotta make sure you see the procs. I am actually looking for more jobs that don't depend on watching the buttons that much and just have set rotations you can learn and fire of (less proc-heavy jobs basically). Any suggestions? Also regarding tanks: Are there some that are less proc-heavy than others?

  4. Honestly, I dont get the whole "muscle memory" stuff… I trained my monk rotation yesterday, with burst phase and buffs and everything for an hour or two straight on a dummy. Muscle memory? Whats that? >.< … Maybe without burst phase… 1 2 3 4 5 6 1 2 6 … and again… for another two hours… meh…
Though, moving around wasnt really an issue for me… but that might be because I already played other jobs before starting monk… However, when I play ranged I run around, too 😀 Just because I can XD
As for staring at my skill bar – no worries, I usually stare down at it the whole fight… fun fact: I sometimes dont even know how my spells and skills actually look like o.o

  5. Keep going back to monks. Began way back in Everquest with my Human Monk. Started with monk when ARR launched. When I came back for Shadowbringers, I went Bard and Blackmage, but not for long until Monk was the next job.

  6. Thank you for making these videos. I’m new and just started about 2 weeks ago. I normally play eso but I’m loving FF14 enough I’ve bought all the chapters and did the 6 month sub. I choose monk as my main because I love Stam classes. These are truly helpful. I also followed you on twitch.

  7. A common mistake I almost always see in new players(minus casters and especially this happens with people who play ranged jobs) is they see that they can move and attack at the same time and they just never stop moving because it either feels fun or it makes them feel safe or they feel like because they can they should which is definitely not the case and I've been guilty of this too when I picked up my first ranged job ever back shortly after shb released(machinist). It's a bad habit/mindset that can cause a few different issues. 1= you might accidentally move into the path of a tank cleave(happened to my archer fc mate a little while ago when i was tanking and they were running circles around the mobs). 2 = you might move into a danger zone of a carpet mechanic that happens fast and is big but you put urself in a spot where it's now hard to avoid when you might have been in a safe spot otherwise. and finally 3 and this is really big for me as i deal with it all the time as a healer main XD = People who play ranged jobs have a high tendency to stand too far away from the rest of the party and either make it harder to group up for a stack marker or stay out of reach of aoe healing spells and mitigations

TL;DR = Move because should not because you could. XD
