Let me know what you think, I could have went into further details, but wanted to keep it top level stuff. Definitely interesting.
having not played WoW; cultural osmosis has at least shown me its rise and fall.
I feel like a "Death of Wow" video is pretty much on the horizon; and I just feel like most people (at least from what I've seen) are just waiting for it to be called.
"How much do you know about warcraft?" OH OH OH I know this one!
ALL THE STORY MONTHS BEFORE IT'S RELEASED!
What do I win?
I know you tried to disclaim in the video that "this might not be as nerdy" or however you worded the sentiment, but honestly seeing you in your element like this made up for anything you feel you lost on the nerdiness front. You clearly know what you're talking about and it really shows! I liked this video!
Yoshi has good project management skills but also knows when and where to stick his nose into the creative process and make changes. There's an interesting interview with Ishikawa and her story for Shadowbringers where she had the initial expansion story arc to be we go zone by zone, kill wardens, then end the base story with Vauthry. Yoshi was the one who came in and said, no, add in the bits about the WoL gathering too much light, and then put in the finale with Emet-Selch. Ishikawa is brilliant at writing conversational dialog (like the Venat one last stream) but Yoshi sees the big picture and the details equally well, and makes lots of correct choices and adjustments. Good project management gets the game out on schedule, but Yoshi's creative input is the real cherry on top.
I really like the timeline FF14 provide us because it tempers out expectations and also adjust our life accordingly. What really gets me emotionally is they took their time to create a special questline where Yoshi P himself comes down to personally thanks you. The recent one got me emotional because it was aimed at veterans who have been around. With the guy like that at helm, I have zero worry when it comes to FF14. If something does delay, I don't fret, i exactly know why. And I continue on with playing other games while I wait.
This was a good one…. A) welcome to the final fantasy live letters. We love them. B) it was very interesting to see your insights on this. That was about as nerdy as you can get. Well done!
Loved the video!
A lot of these actions by Creative Business Unit 3 stem from the 1.0 failure. I suggest watching the two xiv documentaries there's one from the devs point of view and one from the players. Both are really good insight on how a team that's dedicated enough can fix a fuckup
The dev team has been this way since Yoshi P took over during 1.0. He felt the reason the game at the time was failing was due to poor communication. Also due to his experience also playing mmos, he felt this was an issue that older mmos faced like Ultima Online. If you want a good documentary on the entire transition from 1.0, that has 3 parts:

I've been playing this game since 1.0 alpha, and also experienced the launch of ARR, and all of the expacs. As you can tell I'm still here for a reason 😀
I think it helps Yoshida is on the board, its not like when a delay is needed he has to report to his boss which reports to another boss which has to explain it to the board, he just has to explain it to the stakeholders that put him there for his accomplishments of helming FF14 so, I don't think there is anyone bellow him or above him that can say much for what he decides, its gonna suck if he makes a mistake, a lot of weight on a single man but it is working as of now.
