Shadowbringers… This FFXIV expansion has much hype. Is it really that good? 30 Hours later, and let me tell you…
Final Fantasy XIV is a very well constructed MMORPG, with a beginning levelling experience that surpasses any other MMO on the market.

Final Fantasy XIV is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by Square Enix. Directed and produced by Naoki Yoshida, it was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 3 in August 2013, as a replacement for the failed 2010 version of the game, with support for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and macOS releasing later. Final Fantasy XIV takes place in the fictional land of Eorzea, five years after the events of the original 2010 release. At the conclusion of the original game, the primal dragon Bahamut escapes from its lunar prison to initiate the Seventh Umbral Calamity, an apocalyptic event which destroys much of Eorzea. Through the gods’ blessing, the player character escapes the devastation by time traveling five years into the future. As Eorzea recovers and rebuilds, the player must deal with the impending threat of invasion by the Garlean Empire from the north.

As soon as I entered the Greatwood and heard that song it become my fav music in the game. It is just amazing.
i shared your thoughts when i was around 78~ in the story.. you think you know the shadowbringers story.. but hahaha.. wait till you get to the end of 5.0
And here i thought you said in the caption "im 30 years old", i was like "arent you 22?"
Hey, Kro. I'm mostly a lurker, but I wanted to talk about your part regarding the mining section of Amh Araeng. I don't know if this particular snippet is missed, but I didn't find it as tedious, especially given the pay-off at the end. That is, if you haven't been bored to death enough that you didn't pay attention to the character arc of Magnus. You probably know it since I'm sure you paid attention to the story, but Magnus hates the Talos because his wife died in a cave-in during a mining expedition to get leonine. If not from him, his assistants probably said as much.
The mining part where Thancred helps you smoke out the knockers was tedious for sure, no denying that. But when I personally discovered that the leonine we found was the one Magnus' wife found all those years ago made it all worth it. Not in the physical sense but in the emotional sense where—somehow, someway, and maybe to some degree it may have been contrived—you see that her death wasn't in vain. She found leonine, and her final moments were of her husband, etched into the mineral, hoping it would find its way to him one day.
And it did. That, at least to me, was the emotional pay-off of Amh Araeng
Your main problems seem to be that you aren't trusting the writing team. Every complaint you have is either wrong because you're misremembering stuff that was properly explained previously, or will be built upon in ways that retroactively justify a "pointless" section's inclusion.
Also, you're wrong about SB, SB is great. You didn't even do the optional raid stuff which is arguably some of the best content in the entire game, let alone expansion. Why you're trying to rush through everything so quickly is beyond my ability to understand. Like yeah, if we consider each expansion a book within a novel series, you're skipping big sections of chapters, and then calling those books bad (see above example of SB/"optional" content). Maybe try reading the entire thing, first, then forming an opinion?
Kro, I love you man. I have no words for your reactions. Just love' em.
Wondering if you’ve watched Oh Sheet, It’s Ran’jit! 🤣
the depth to emets character is absolutely mindblowing.
ive watched alot of content creators and i can say for a certainly that it flew over alot of peoples heads.
Sense you wanna get every class to 80 anyway you definitely need to check out all the role quests they are all really good.
I honestly strongly disagree with his thoughts on Ahm Araeng. Yes its much slower and meant to be an exp buffer section. It was a different kind of loss not seen in the story so far. Of just cruel despair and lingering hope. Thancred coming to terms with Ryne, Ryne finally breaking out of her low-self esteem and wanting to live. Urianger who is normally a very stable and monotone character admitting to feeling overwhelming guilt sending a young girl he's supported all his life to ultimately be a sacrificial lamb and cause other Minfillias to suffer. These are all stuff that wouldn't have worked at all in a rushed or sped up pacing. Those emotional punches needed to be pulled during downtime or else it would've felt cheap.
The path to your own Amaro is a beautiful one. I completed this adventure just a few months ago, and it was worth every single hour, dungeons, and dailies. I named him Pavlova, and he is the proof of one of the biggest gaming achievements I've had in years!
i highly disagree that the mining section should be removed and here's why. mining was one of Minfillia's favorite hobbies. that entire section was an ode to minfillia
I’m glad that your enjoying the game but I disagree with you on removing the mining bit, the exp earned from there is crucial to levelling. Your levelling after the exp nerf it’s a-lot Easier now you will hit 80 before your done 5.0 but before it was a grind.
I think You know at this point that even the quest you dont like and think are pointless in the MSQ are still important
I hope u have tissues for the end of 5.0 and the rest man
Enjoy the rest brother
The pop off of 5.0 and 5.3 i believe will make you like Feelsbringers a little more than heavensward. I can't imagine how Endwalker will top Feelsbringers 😂
If you're only at MSQ level 77, I can assure you that the best is yet to come. You're going to experience an endgame you can't even imagine yet.
Just found the playlist of your playthrough….time to binge while i work lol
wsn't on board with your Stormblood critique, I felt much more involved than you. But I agree with this one 100 percent, even with the critique of the mining part. it's the weakest part of the expansion in my opinion and it took a bit too long.
I did not want to leave Thancred fighting Ran'jit on his own as well! But at the same time, I thought maybe he was doing that on purpose, so as not to show up when the two Minfilia decided who should live on.
Bc he knew Ryne is so kind-hearted that she might hesitate to speak out her own wish if witnessing that Thancred and HIS Minfilia finally had a reunion. He (and I) was afraid that Ryne would give up her own life 'as others' wish', for others' happy ending, if he was there.
Imo he gave up the final chance to meet THE Minfilia, to give Ryne a true new life. I respected his mature decision and silent care for Ryne.
you have demon horns comin out of your head, of course everything isnt ok and the light didnt completely win…YOU HAVE DEMON HORNS
"The mining scene is not important"
Hoboy….
I would say that, Stormblood is the Age of Ultron of FFXIV. It carries the weight of 1.0 legacy story, (Freeing Alimigo), clearing out some weak characters that have no context for them beyond the Alimigo story, (Yda and Papalimo), and then have to bridge 2 other expansions that are otherwise self contained. (HW and ShB). It's doing too much, just like Age of Ultron, and it's weaker for it. Plus, your char isn't progressing, (no crystals to collect, no warden's to kill, your just… there.)
.
At the same time, just like a piece of music, you have a slow open, a rocking lift, a quiet fall, then a killing high of an ending. I think the "OMG the world is blowing up and dying go go go or we all DIE!!! AUGHH" part of HW and ShB needed a smaller scale story between them to let the player breath. So, a lighter tone is better to allow HW and ShB to standout so much as they should.
.
Personally, I enjoyed the Doma sections of the story way better then the Alimigo sections for sure, and Lyse was uninteresting, agreed. I think she should have been a new char rather then ret-con'ing Yda. I think it would have been more interesting if Yda had died in Ul'dah, and we find Lyse later and her actually be her sister, and her have some angst against the Scions because of it. I think it would have likely played out more interesting. But oh well.
.
At any rate, I don't think Stormblood was all bad, but I agree it could have been better. At least 3.0. 3.x patches were def much better and a lot of needed setup for ShB and EW. my $0.00002
