I recently made the switch from being a longtime Final Fantasy XIV to being a World of Warcraft player. In this video I discuss the decisions and issues I had with XIV that caused me to make my choice!

  1. Although i will always prefer the looks of the Final Fantasy character design, I do agree with some of the reasons you changed. Jumping from zone to zone for the quests in Final Fantasy is a pain😂

  2. sure support Blizzard they shown how they now changed and are good with their employees… People like you don't act on social reason, why would you? Employees are not happy, change employment! I am not saying that SE is angelic, but if i have to choose i take the less worst.

  3. Well, I wasn’t thinking about switching but I was thinking about picking up WoW and trying it out for a few months but this is no longer the case. I was thinking about trying WoW because I’ve heard it is quite decentralised and you can just play as an adventurer having adventures with little overarching story about saving the world, and for that reason I might have ended up in classic.

But I was also drawn to the dragon part of WoW. I’ve wanted to play as a dragon or dragon-like being for so many years now and the Dracthyr really seem like almost exactly what I wanted. I haven’t had a game that properly satisfied that desire since Breath of Fire 4, which was inferior to my beloved BoF 3. At this point I don’t even know how long it’s been.

But we’re in very different circumstances. I played FF11 for many years before quitting and only picked up FF14 a couple years ago. I’m lvl 71 part through Stormblood. I take breaks from the game and spend quite a bit of time playing with the land and hand classes plus two alts. I’m not burnt out like you and I’ve not run out of content. Plus I’m in it for the story and setting, those things and the characters are my priorities in any game. I could have done without the “chosen one” thing and preferred to be a hero just because my character is skilled and chose to fight. Or maybe do a Grey Warden type thing where you choose to have some blessing that lets you fight-and not be unique to you. But it’s not a dealbreaker.

In the end, it’s the lack of good storytelling, lore, the heavy rng dependency for gear, needing to do raids and stuff. I’m a filthy casual-I might join raids and stuff but I don’t want it dominating my gameplay. And I want access to all the content. I actually appreciate that I can’t skip to lvl 90 and Endwalker unless I’m determined enough to fork over cash for it. No, I’d want levelling up to be part of the journey, and I’d want to experience solo versions of all the expansions. Yeah it would take awhile but it’s an MMO and I’m in no hurry to endgame.

Add in the needless division of players due to the Horde and Alliance war that should have ended expansions ago, nonsensical stuff like Sylvanas, the desecration of beloved characters like Arthas, the abuse of staff behind the scenes, and the competitive hostile community with heavy PvP aspects,(yes I researched WoW in order to understand what I might be getting into) and I think I’m looking at a game that while offers me much, isn’t for me.

Which is a shame though because I’d have really liked the simplicity of just being an adventurer, or actually being a dragon character.
