  1. Nope… Barely 5 seconds into the video and i already know this is wrong.

    Controversial to say the least.

As a fellow Y'shtola simp whether it's all the nhaama of the steppe or those forest dwelling Viera…

Neither are a match for Y'shtola.

  2. Even Hydaelyn doesn't mention any ways she's developed as a character while going over the different things the Scions have experienced, so she really is lacking any real depth compared to the others.

I think she's treated as the face of XIV outside of the game strictly for marketability reasons.

  3. I hope she gets more character development in the new expansion. Just like with Urianger, we finally got his moment in Endwalker. Hopefully they'll build something for her regarding Matoya. Maybe delve into her past or have Y'shtola lost Matoya. Or maybe even play on the fact that her time is running out, and her life force is beginning to weaken, being at death's doors.

  4. You know what, i'm gonna say it

Y'shtola is the best because she's not meant to have an over-arching story throughout the entirety of the series. She's meant to be static, she's supposed to be an inspiration to everyone. A teacher. A leader. Her not having an development arc where she changes is meant to establish her as something everyone aspires to be. Not to say I don't want that for her, it's just that at the moment, she hasn't needed it. SHE'S PERFECTED AS SHE IS, EVERYONE

i actually said this in a video, maybe some of y'all can check it out, I talk about why characters like Y'shtola are some of the better in the series they're from.

  5. Yeah, Allisaie is best girl. Y’shtola does have a 3d character, though – it’s just that she’s fine not being in the spotlight all the time. But she is the wise one, and the one who can “see”things no one else can. Both literally and figuratively.

Of course, Tataru is the MVP of the Scions…

  6. Y'shtola is victim of her own success. The playerbase love her just by existing so the writers don't feel compelled to put any effort in how she's written. Also someone at Squarenix probably hates her.

  7. Ok, but seriously. People need to understand that there are characters who are dynamic, and characters who are static, and that being a static character is NOT a bad thing. Sometimes a character's role in a story is to be a reliable big sister and a competent adult, and that's okay.

  8. FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE SAYS IT. Y'shtola is the worst of the scions. She's only getting attention cause cat girl. This is what is known as the Sylvanas effect.

  9. Some people clearly never met 1.0 Y'shtola. Back then she mainly came across as an annoying know-it-all. She was also a conjurer, which is like… yuck.
I wouldn't say she's perfect, but of all the scions I would say that she's the least "flawed". She's a strong-minded, highly intelligent person who believes in herself and her abilities, so there's no real need to develop her further. I can see why that can be boring, but I think it's nice to have someone on the team who doesn't need to be fixed cough Alisaie *cough*.

  10. Hot take: all of the scions are pretty bland as characters. They fall into the archetype trap that is all too common for JRPGs. That being written….Y'shtola is barely even an archetype bro….I mean…..we all know why she's there right?

  11. She’s not perfect but she’s without a doubt the most Optimistic and level headed scion.

That lady was literally told by super intelligent immortal aliens that her pursuit of knowledge is a meaningless path to despair and she still went Girl Boss mode on them.

    …..looked good doing it to

  12. To be fair, it's not reasonable to expect every character to have mental health issues they need to overcome. Y'shtola is the disciple of Matoya. Whatever demons she may have had were probably exercised in her youth. The game isn't done with her anyhow, as she seems to be the one who's going to find a way to get us to other shards.

  13. she should have a thing where he seeing with aether is slowly killing aside from just saying it and show no apparent effect .. and they had the opportunity to go and further explore that when she used the flow again in raktika … but no .. no change and even the story in raktika which with how the story was going in SHB zones was supposed to develop her character more didn't do anything with her .. yes she is the least developed ( if there was actually any development ) scion .. and that is actually being generous because we are comparing her to the other scions … other side characters had more character development than her .. like she wishes she had half the character development lyse has

  14. This is why my female WoL's muscle slider is max, she needs all the gains to carry the weight of female representation in the Scions on her shoulders XD

Seriously though, I love Y'shtola, but they could have done SO MUCH more with her, especially in Endwalker now that she's back in Old Sharlayan. Her backstory of being raised by Matoya with only a grumpy old lady and books to keep her company could have lead to a fascinating character with real flaws in interacting with people, same as Urianger. Instead her only purpose in scenes is to provide exposition that honestly any of the archons could, or to be sassy/mean. She never has to make difficult personal choices, or deal with the consequences of past choices, or really be put in any sort of emotionally vulnerable position.

I get that she's strong willed and confident, and I don't think she needs to be more KIND per se, but when Estinien comes across as more emotionally available and reflective on past mistakes, and is able to display hope for the future despite that, it really feels like Y'shtola has been left behind.

  15. I'm seeing a lot of weird takes in the comments. Y'shtola is a grown ass woman, that's not to say she can't develop anymore, but she's done most of her "growing" already and she isn't a lesser character for being static. A character's worth is not tied to the amount of change they go through, that change, first and foremost, needs to make sense and come about naturally, giving her character development now would probably come off as forced and quite frankly, unnecessary.
