  1. Tried it, it's just ok. I might go back and play some more eventually, but not now. I really don't get all the gushing for the story. Having read a lot of fantasy lit over my lifetime it's just doesn't wow me like it seems to others. But to each their own I guess.

  2. I feel like the slow start is especially felt by veteran MMO players, for someone new to MMO's though FFXIV does a fantastic job at teaching those new players how to read the game language. But yea, for people that are used to playing games in this MMO style then the first 40 levels can feel sluggish, believe that it picks up – especially for DPS classes!

  3. I’m not sure where you are right now but it seems like you haven’t finished ARR. if you are already selling FF before that, prepare to have your mind blown like Preach. FF is the second game that ever made him cry, and quickly taken the #2 spot on his all time favourite story telling RPG. I’d say it’s only #2 now because he only finished Heavensward :). I’ll be interested to see his view again after Shadowbringer.

  4. New players expect a big start. With a lot of skills/abilities filling your hotbar, jump right into the meat.. NO. This game starts slow, and for a very good reason. You'll only appreciate it once you reach higher levels. My only tip: Don't rush leveling. It's meant to be enjoyed. Leveling is not hard. Once you finish the story, leveling the other jobs to max is a lot easier and way less time consuming.

  5. My favourite comparison is this,
In wow you need to level to get to the content, in ffxiv you need to do content to get to more content.
You start out as a new adventurer, it takes time to get strong and build your legacy

  6. I think of FF14 is a detox to your bad habit you picked up while playing other MMORPGs. The reason why you may feel bored or anxious when starting out FF14 is because you were conditioned to treat all MMORPG like a race to the end. FF14 challenges your preconceived notion about the genre. And not all will be willing to be challenged. But for those that does will soon realize that it's not about where you end up but it is about the journey itself.

  7. If anyone is a wow refugee and can't get into FF14 or they dislike the fact that FF14 doesn't have much as far as PvP should try Guild Wars 2.

FF14 has amazing story telling, GW2 has better open world (questing) its not rough to play till lvl 40, and hands down the best PvP in any MMO on the market right now. There's actually alot of people that play both because both have something the other doesn't, and both have upcoming expansions.

  8. Yes try it but don't get your hopes up, i love lore and story and art style, but can't stand ffxiv, the story didnt grab me at all beyond the honeymoon phase of any new game and the art style is a bit disturbing, its not for everyone that's for sure, but i also tried Guild wars 2 and totally love that.

  9. My issue with FFXIV (and asian games in general) is that I really don't like the graphics – the character models to be precise.

I also have a distaste for the FF single player titles – I tried all of them from FFVIII onwards and I didn't enjoy any of them all that much. I want to like them, they just don't let me. And a lot of that is because of the story telling which is super weird. I know a lot of people keep saying that FF storytelling is so good and whatnot, but I can't share that sentiment in terms of the single player titles at least. Witcher 3 has good story telling, Dragon Age, the Mass Effect trilogy – that's good story telling. And because of those negative experiences with the single player titles I'm sceptical that the storytelling of FFXIV would be to my liking.

I'm not saying that the games are bad per se or should be avoided by everyone, but they're not for me.

Yes WoW has issues right now, but I'll stick with WoW, it's more to my liking – not to mention that I have an attachment to my characters. I have 17 years of history with some of them after all. Or I play ESO every now and then.

  10. Some of the ARR quest lines can really stretch your patience , for me it was the fetch quests you had to do for the company of heroes or whatever they are called before the titan fight , that shit was so annoying i was really REALLY close on giving up with the game , only reason i didn't do it was because everyone was telling me that the game gets good later on , if i jumped into the game with 0 context and no idea how the quality of the quest lines improves over time in the expansions there is no way i would stick until the end of ARR and its later patch quests.

  11. What kind of casual meaning here? Casual just playing it not everytime? Or playstyle not caring much about combat and stuff? Cos both of them ff14 hit the checklist.
U dont play much? Not big deal u still could have fun without fomo feeling.
U dont like the main things ingame just wanna hang out? Just hang out with ppl in thr square of the major city, makes friend, listen to music, watch act, got invited to a housr, got invited to an ERP somehow lol
    This game awesome.

  12. The trial is free, just try it.

As a WoW player I could never imagine swapping games and playing MMO style in the FF14 world… Now that I have left WoW and stared playing FF14, I could never imagine swapping back to Wow. It is funny how things work out like that sometimes.
