  1. im quite excited to see what they do with sage and the ast changes. i didnt like noct ast, and it tends to be a trap since i see ppl using it in dungeons even though diurnal is stronger, so i was quite interested when i heard they were going to "adjust" ast

  2. My concern is that currently in PF, everyone runs WHM+AST/SCH. If AST fills the same role as WHM then RIP my party finder adventures. That being said, Sage looks kinda cool so maybe that'll be a fun alt to play on.

  3. I really hope they get very creative, I want healing totally changed. AST and WHM should have no shields, SCH and SAG no regens. I hope they do separate the queues for 8man extreme and higher content. The homogenization of the healers since SB has been good for balance but bad for fun and class differences

  4. I totally agree with the tanks sub roles you said. But I think drk is also an ideal MT because you can literally spam tbn to yourself (it’s easier and of course you have to make sure it’s gonna break) rather than giving it to your MT. Dark mind is also a 60 second CD very useful in savage and ultimate raids paired with TBN, drk is godly as an MT. And like you said, gnb can both mt and ot, there’s really no reason to be ot or mt if you’re a gnb but yea, the burst window is a little bit an inconvenience if you have to move the boss during burst window or if there is tankbuster during your burst window. I just hope they try to make it clear which is the better MT and OT in the upcoming expansion because despite the slight differences , all tanks still feels the same and there aren’t much distinction among them.

  5. I think shield vs regen healer is irrelevant. What matters most at the end of the day is dps. If sch brought more to the table it would be played more. Likewise for sage if it brings nothing to the table besides filling a health bar it won't be played. In all honesty WHM should probably get a nerf because at this point it's just too strong and you pretty much have to pick it. There's no reason for a healer to be outdamaging tanks. Even GNB the tank that sacrifices defense for more offence pulls less DPS than WHM. If WHM wasn't an auto pick and the other healers actually brought something to the table dps we'd get a lot more variety in group comp.

  6. The intended design for tanks seems to be WAR/DRK as MT and PLD/GNB as OT, and indeed their abilities seem to be set up to support them in this way. However, given that the content in XIV doesn't really push tanks very hard(and the differences between them are miniscule) you don't really need to prioritize them according to MT and OT so much. So what has ended up happening is that WAR and DRK are seen more as prog tanks in the higher end of the community while PLD and GNB are seen as the farm and speed clear tanks. If SE really want to push the MT/OT dichotomy they need to actually make the tanks more unique and make fights that actually push tanks to their limits. Hopefully they don't make the same mistakes with healers that they made with tanks in ShB(or perpetuate the mistakes in ShB Healer design), because while tank DPS is the most balanced it's ever been the rest of their kits are very homogenized and boring.

  7. I am pretty sure that the main concern isn't "these things won't be possible" but rather "party finder wont want to do these things". If you look at the state of PF as it is already you *rarely* if ever see PF groups that allow for double jobs, regardless of what role they are playing, and that goes especially true for healers (with the obvious exception of Astro). The fact that the Game Devs have publicly stated that their intention is to define the healers into sub-roles is likely going to put people into the mindset that you have to play a certain way.

It doesn't help that they recently introduced the "one player per job" option. It can not be understated how much small changes like that effects the mindset of the players. Yes the top end player are going to be able to ignore this, but the lower end, and even mid tier players are going to play off of the assumption that this is how the game is meant to be played.

I am not sure how much time you spend in PF but if you spend as much time as I have then you have definitely seen situations like this happen:
There is a party with 4 DPS 2 Tanks and 1 Healer (WHM) waiting in PF for a second Healer to *PROG* part of a fight. 60 minutes goes by and nothing. Everyone decides to wait a bit longer because its the weekend and they don't have anything to do anyways. Another 45 minutes goes by and then someone realizes that the 2nd healer slot is locked to AST/SCH. They ask the PF lead to change it and they refuse. Then you check the PF listings and see that *every other healer slot* that is currently filled is a WHM.
The moral is that even at the expense of everyone else's time there are players out there that are willing to conform to the "preferred meta" that the Devs have set up for us, regardless of player skill or availability of players playing different jobs.

  8. I’m cool with the split as long as we have stuff like neutral sect and emergency tactics. I feel astro needs the change as well not like we ever needed shield sect so use this change to make their kit more diverse maybe like another button or 2 for dps or give it more of the time mage identity. Atm I’m worried for sch as sage will likely be better since it doesn’t have to deal with pets not being responsive

  9. I disagree that AST is only getting a slight change, it might be a ground up rework. when we got a new ranged physical dps MCH got a complete overhaul so that the 3 ranged physical each had their own flavor. the rework to MCH was so extreme it was basically a 3rd new job for shadowbringers. I think all healers are being touched up, but AST is going to see the most change.

  10. i get the point : yes actually having 2 white mages works, but by truly create a gap between barrier healer and pure healer in 6.0, are they not going to buff potenties of shields a lot and then makes raid buster hit way harder to force people having 1 barrier and one pure, even in more casual content as extremes or late savage?

  11. I don’t think Nocturnal as a skill is leaving. I think they will change it to effect the cards. Maybe being in diurnal will increase healing and damage somehow and nocturnal will be a buff to the cards somehow and you will be able to freely swap during combat to adjust to the situation. If no crazy healing is needed then stay in nocturnal but if you know a huge burst of healing is needed then swap into diurnal. The sects are a core part of the job. I don’t think they will just delete it. Change yes. Delete no.

  12. Here's the thing, as someone who's been maining healer in every expansion.
Content will always be scaled to the least capable healer, so there's never been a moment, where AST isn't meta. It's SUPPOSED to be "oh it can swap between both, but its not as focused" blah blah, but its not. And on top of homogenising the job roles, you end up with the current situation, of Noct AST doing the majority of the work, and buffing the DPS, and letting WHM just spam Glare.
You can't realistically design a job to do both roles in this game. Even down to the concept of Diurnal/Nocturnal, just making stuff "Regen or Shields" isn't actually a good idea. SCH is designed to be a defensive healer, with stuff like Soil, Deploy ect, but again, because content HAS to revolve around the lowest capability, oops stacking shields, oops 400 OGCD healing skills. And every time, WHM or SCH, gets made redundant.

Focusing it into a pure Healer, with NO SHIELDS besides Celestial Opp, means its not going to be sitting there, doing all the mitigation, and most of the healing as well. Now the job is more focused, and can DPS more, and focus on cards more, while the WHM can actually do something besides Glare, and the SCH can go back to existing and doing its role properly again.
I'm sure SOME people enjoy just being that Noct AST who's doing most of the healing, while DPSing, and minmaxing cards, but it doesn't take a genius to know how flawed that is as a concept, and we know it's the reason why DPS and Cards got immensely dumbed down as well, because the focus of the healers got turned into just "babysitter" where they have more than they need, and ready at any moment to correct a mistake.

Healers need more split cooperative structure, and this change 100% brings that, while also putting limitations on the healers, making Tanks and DPS require more personal responsibility, and the Healer can hopefully have a slightly more involved DPS system.

  13. I just started playing and haven’t unlocked astrologian yet. Is it worth learning how the class works or should I just wait for the new expansion?

  14. Considering diurnal AST right now is just worse WHM, I expect AST will get a big rework, since nocturnal is likely to get a rework, AST will be left without it's versatility just making it WHM, but with no blood lily, AST needs to be changed entirely to separate it's gcds from being WHM clone
