The explanation for why Aymeric tells you to throw the eyes into the gorge is because the gorge is a maelstrom of ice-aspected Aether. You literally cannot survive in it unless you're like the Warriors of Darkness were. They were perfectly safe down there under ordinary circumstances. Aymeric and crew weren't thinking "Oh, we should be worried about supernatural beings capable of surviving literally freezing to death to get them back" in the moment. In case anyone was curious about why that was the instruction. I believe they talk about it in game but it's missed or forgotten pretty easily.

Maybe it’s just me but I always find it a little weird when people say something to the effect that RPGs feel “weird” when they’re not turned-based because the only reason they were turn-based in the beginning was because that was what was possible with the tech of the time. I don’t mind games being turned-based but I also appreciate when they branch out and try new things as well. Bravely Default 2 came out a year ago and had a fantastic turn-based system while FF7R pushed in the other direction with action-combat that could be paused mid-battle to choose abilities which was further refined in FF7R Integrade. I like to see all the ideas pursued and pushed to new and interesting places. Hell, if POKÉMON can try something new after all these years then we have to be just as open to change which could bring something nice that we never expected.
