  1. So yes, all of the voice actors in Heavensward were changed moving forward to British VAs with the exceptions of Haurchefant and Aymeric – they retain their voice actors from ARR: Jason LaShea and Blake Ritson, respectively.

No one is really certain why the voice changeover happened (there's speculation it had to do with contract negotiation stuff), but it does actually make for an overall more cohesive and authentic sounding cast — the fake british accents from some of the ARR actors were pretty bad.

  2. To be able to join in with the NPCs throwing snowballs at you, there's a quest in Coerthas Central Highlands called "Toss Fit Workout" that will get you the /throw emote. Using it in snow will cause you to throw snowballs. Give it a shot!

  3. I was a 1.0 player, and I remember looking over the cliff (it wasn't covered with ice back then) looking at the city from afar and finding the "Gates of Judgement", I didn't realize how long I would have to wait to cross those gates for the first time. It was an epic event for me having to wait so long.

  4. as humorous as it is to see Emmanellain get the taste slapped out of his mouth, I do feel sorry for him. he touches on his situation but really its kinda heartbreaking the way the society treats second born sons, he was essentially a 'break in case of emergency' replacement count in case something happened to his brother from the day he was born. then when it was certain the brother was capable and would live to succeed his father, Emman was simply cut loose to do whatever he wanted. so he just sort of drifts aimlessly. he just accepted his lot in life and everyone simply treats him like a simpleton and a mischievous little brother. his pompous exterior hides a wave of uncertainty and sadness.

  5. Voice acting definitely changed. While I wish Square were loyal to the original actors (who were good but could have been given better direction), it was easier to manage their western actors (English, French, German) from a single continent.
Haurchefant has a silent 'h' and 't', so it's ore-che-fawn, but not every voice actor knows French.

  6. Nice to see in the cutscene when you first arrive in Ishgard that Alphinaud has learned his lesson from before and put on a dang coat!

The voice actor for Count Edmont (who acts as the narrator for the expansion) was Stephen Critchlow, who sadly passed away last year.

  7. 3:48 Don't need to be a big streamer for big welcomes tbh. My server's Novice Network will get together for ANY sprout who is emotionally invested enough in the game to announce they've finished ARR and heading to Ishgard. Absolute nobodies still get big community welcomes if people are notified of it. I usually put up a cross-world PF and frequently people will visit from other Worlds just to welcome somebody to a new expansion. (・ω・)/

  8. Ah, this is Alphinaud I know and love 😀

And this is +/- how every expansion starts – some minor things, then you go and go through the cutscenes to new zones and – to the expansion's title screen, each beautiful, each different, with new and harrowing things to happen.

Ishgard is a beautiful city that looks a lot like Anor Londo.

Imagine having a house in Ishgard! Well, you don't have to imagine, since city has housing district – Empyreum. It's great.

Genuenly suggest to take a quest for Dark Knight (quest near the Inquisition office you passed).

Regarding Cout de Fortemps, as well as it's sad that actor has passed, I need to say this – later in the story there will be moment of most brilliant performance from him. He will be missed dearly.

Skysteel Manufactory is the place where you can replace your bow with a less civilised weapon – a gun. I mean, there you can become Machinist.

  9. The first thing everyone notices going into Heavensward is the change in voices. Square Enix realized the voiceovers from ARR didn't particularly sit well with western players, so they hired actual film and stage actors, as opposed to 2.0's crew that were mostly anime dub voice actors. They also put quite a bit more effort into voice direction. Its almost unanimous among the playerbase that the new cast coupled with better direction and the game's top notch narrative made for an immensely better experience than in ARR.

And from this point on, the cast essentially stays the same, bar a few exceptions. Yugiri's voice actor, Sian Blake, was murdered back in 2015. Count Edmont de Fortemps's voice, Steven Critchlow, a seasoned actor with one hell of resume', passed just last year.

  10. Hooray! Welcome to Heavensward! I had the same feeling when looking around Ishgard the first time, I remember it well, I just walked through the whole city gaping at the view before I did anything else. Excellent city.

  11. That jarring voice actor change gets everyone, but at this point when I hear the old ARR voice actors I'm like "hey they sound wrong, and also worse". (It's a good thing, overall, I think: I shudder to think how some of the big moments in the rest of the story would have landed with the wooden and overwrought deliveries from ARR.)

  12. I'm watching you for the first time here. I've been watching other streamers and didn't find you until now. When you mentioned you don't have the line of people to welcome you to the new expansion/area, it made me a little sad. If I knew about you then, I'd have been there for you. Enjoy the game, the story and the experience! Most of all, have fun man!!

  13. Welcome to Heavensward.
Been playing for a little over a year and yes, I had a similar reaction when I stepped into Ishgard for the first time. I fell in love with it instantly, specially the music there. Even after seeing the entire story, Ishgard is still my favorite place, so I wonder what impression it will leave in you. Looking forward to that.

  15. Another great video. I really enjoy your chill yet enthusiastic take on things. Nice edits as well, you know how to trim the fat. You deserve a line of us to welcome you. Sorry I couldn't be there. 😊

  16. About a year or so ago, the man behind the voice of Count Edmont, Stephen Critchlow, passed away. Several in-game vigils were held in his honor for a few days, and again when the 1-year mark had passed.

I can't go into any more details as to why he's so beloved by the community since that would be going into Spoiler Country.

Ready to see what Artoriel's section of the MSQ has in store?

  17. The cast was changed for majority of characters and I personally find it better than ARR. Look forward to your LP. Now that you're seriously into it I am invested ^^ trust me it only gets better from here on xDD

  18. 1:50 — Thats what I thought, but no, not really… It becomes clear(er?) a bit later.

13:30 — I think reactions will have been similar – though, think about the weather: if its misty the impression isnt as impactful XD I think you were lucky getting there during nighttime: it looks positively cozy, not chilly and crisp…

23:45 — Yeah, the snowball quest… with the emote attached… I remember, when I first came to Ishgard, a veteran (?) player threw them at me and I responded in kind. We had a nice "match", then bowed and went on our ways 🙂 Still a very fond memory of mine… It just started out of nowhere 😀

43:10 — Manipulation, aka Ascians ^^ Lahabrea or Elidibus said something like, "To the northern lands (…) the seeds are sown".

44:11 — Well, it wouldnt do for the Vanu to attack us the moment our backs are turned… 😛
