This one was fun to put together, some people come up with crazy ideas and I kinda wanted to just throw my two cents into the ring. No matter what we get though I’ll be eager to learn the job’s lore and level it up in the future!

So the turtles are masters of different fighting styles, much like how the WoL wields different jobs.
There exists a job in both Final Fantasy and Bravely series, that comes to mind; Weaponmaster/Armsmaster
FF2’s Firion in the Dissidia games is referred to as such and uses a wide range of weapons. Sword, axe, lance, etc.
Not sure how they would implement Weaponmaster in ffxiv? But seeing how they changed Sage from what it originally was in FF3, I say it’s doable.
There's signage for an unimplemented 1.0 Musketeer Class in Limsa. And you got Merlwyb rocking those pistols.
The theories about caster jobs are way more compelling than any of the melee ones I've seen come from the shirt, since to me it would feel disingenuous to argue for any melee that isn't pirate themed after watching the trailer. Pictomancer could be a but of a nothing job it's half way between the existing lore of summoners and blue mage as I've heard some speculation think, but the dev team is good at what they do so I'm open to it. Something tied in to the kojin gets me excited because it could be a really different direction for the lore of a casting job.
When i think about tmnt i think about pizza cowabonga and sewer surfing so yeah the job is definitely a pizza maker job
So here is my smooth brain take on that shirt. The shirt itself isn't hinting at any new job. Outside of Shadowbringer, for lore reasons, the jobs people theorize about have nothing to do with the New World specifically, but are jobs that are Neutral or have lore in other expansions. A painter like caster job has more roots in Kugane or Ishgard then it does the New World. A corsair job is closer to Limsa then the new world. If you take these jobs into a bubble you notice they have little connection on their own to the New World. There is nothing really "Southern America" about them. Jobs like Dark Knight and even Reaper have roots in the expansion people are going to. It's where they were created. Gun Breaker and Dancer could not be since inter-dimensional travel isn't the norm at the time of their release. So what is the shirt eluding to then?
The infamous shirts didn't always elude to jobs. A new race was eluded to with a shirt of Bugs Bunny. So then what could the TMNT shirt mean? My crazy theory is that there would be a total of 4 different jobs a player can rotate around during combat. Insane right? Each turtle represents a job in final fantasy 14. At the same time, Yoshi P didn't need to get a shirt with all 4 turtles, 1 turtle or just the TMNT brand on his shirt would be enough for other peoples theories to be true. For example, the Samurai job shirt reveal was of a basic Spider-man face. It was not a shirt of the upcoming movie of Spider-man called "Spider-man: Home Coming". Since doing so would throw people off of the clue. So what other clues are there for my theory? Time for my tin-foil hat connections.
1. Jobs being homogenized. This complaint is fair considering the complexity players were used to. With many statements from the devs saying this will be the norm. So if job rotation does become a thing, then it would feel better to do during combat to not feel cumbersome. You'll know the rotation of your next job since it feels similar to the others jobs of the game.
2. 2 minute burst windows. As players have complained about, this feels bad since you only have 1 good timing to get your 1 job correct for that window. So what happens then if you miss that window but switch to another job to correct your DPS? Or even switch jobs depending on the phase of a boss fight? Fitting the job to the phase. Now you are thinking more then just pure dps but deciding what will fit better and when.
3. Venat fight. Similar to the pseudo reaper reveal of Shadowbringers with Ran'jit. Players use that to this day as the reveal of reaper since there are no jobs in all of Shadowbringer that are similar to Ran'jit. Whether he was factually a reaper is still a fun debate among fans to this day. But what does this have to do with Venat? During the Elpis story we fight Venat for fun. During that fight, she is switching jobs to those we are familiar with. On the surface it is a fight with a mixture of patterns to it to change the flow of the fight and keep things interesting. Thinking deeper in it though, Venat is factually job switching during combat. A thing that is factually never seen before. Not one boss switches jobs during combat. They switch to a new phase but honest the job itself switching isn't done. Ran'jit is the closest, but that is more transformation changes then job jumping that Venat is doing.
Now will job rotation be broken? Not really. Blue mage has many spells that are linked together by CD. So the job rotation mechanic fix has been around since Blue Mage. Also health does not reset when jobs are changed. They stay at the pre-change value until regen kicks in. Now if job rotation does become a thing, it would truly bring Mayhem to all of ffxiv community. hahaha, see what I did there? 😉
Edit: One more thing. The team just came back from ff16, from which the combat encouraged job rotation, with CD abilities, to maximize damage in a fight. You think the team would come back to ffxiv and not learn a thing or two about improving ffxiv combat?
There are actually multiple references to a swashbuckler/Corsair job on the shirt itself, of course as many other have said there is the spanish word for turtle which is tortuga, what was known as the pirate capital of the world. By the fact that they're ninjas we can of course assume scouting gear and most of the time pirates are known as quick on their feet duelists which would fit very well with dexterity based armor, on top of that as one person mentioned within a reply to a comment there is also the classic debate of pirates vs ninjas, though both this and the tortuga reference are relativelt obscure, obscureness has never stopped Yoshi-P before, looking at that spider man shirt. So honestly i feel pretty strongly that the melee dps will be a swashbuckler/corsair.
I know the two top theories for the new jobs are Corsair and Pictomancer but I seriously hope those are wrong. Here's why.
Corsair would be a big missed opportunity to add a new and interesting weapon to the game. Do we really need another sword job or gun job? How will it play? Reverse redmage? But we already have redmage. Gambling mechanic? That will be as dull as the Astro cards and just as dumbed down. Relying on RNG as a mechanic like that has already proven terrible and not something the team liked using.
Pictomancer? So, Blue mage paintings. How will that work? Will you have to gather your "moves"? Is every move going to be a painting therefore a monster attack? Does anyone remember why BLU is a limited job? If anything I could see the Painter being a new DoH job dealing in paintings, dyes, etc. And a good lore reason for adding a second dye channel.
What keeps playing in my head is YP saying he wants to add a job that's new to the FF series and unique to FFXIV. What I want is a new weapon we haven't seen yet. Nunchucks, Hammers, Bo-staff, Sai, whips, sword whip, anything new at this point.
Once upon a time I pitched an Aether Knight or Aether Mage where the gear and weapon was crystal based. Think Taric from League of Legends.
Anyway, I've rambled in a YouTube comment that no one will see so have a great day and thanks for letting me vent!
Scribe, you forgot that Pictomancy is related to Blue Magic, Relm gets her magical Pictomancy skills from her talents as a blue mage inherited from her Grandfather… and the New World in FFXIV is where Blue Magic originates from.
Corsair in 11 was gambling, guns and swords. You built up tp with swords to release gun limit breaks for damage, was a balance of the two rather then full gun only. I'm personally seeing like an opposite of the red mage, scouting job building up gauge with a sword to do the end combos with guns.
It means pirates
My gil's still on corsair, but played as a reverse Red Mage. Melee DPS with Twin Swords, That builds a meter for a high damage gun based ranged DPS phase.
Honestly, the shirt is 5head if it aludes to both Pictomancer and Corsair jobs. Artist names + Turtle = Tortuga = Isle of Tortuga = Pirates = Corsair.
My theory is a pirate or the Corsair which goes up with a sword and then use gun in combos or something like the red mage and their whole thing of casting away and then come in with powerful melee slashes but in reverse
Some other ones you missed from fanfest; A shapeshifting job, playing off of the "Mutant" portion of the shirt. I like the idea of a Spiritualist, maybe they'd create an Onmyouji class? They already have an Onmyouji character in the new Variant dungeon…. maybe a ghost caster! Wouldn't that spook alphinaud?
My significant other pointed out that the clue for Samurai was Spiderman's director's name almost sounding like samurai.
To this end he tried to say that you didn't met him was being directed by Jonah Hill and was ergo evidence of geomancy.
Jeff Rowe is directing Mutant Mayhem.
I think her was thinking of another stoner movie icon that is producing the feature😂
There is also a person with the last name weaver tho.
Maybe an indicator of how we'll weave between types of attack?
Curious that u didnt put the Tortuga island that points it towards corsair, to me thats the most probable one since the Wol really looks like a Pirate of the Caribbean Character.
Neat video as always, Sage.
Hadn't considered Green Mage, I admit. But that's likely because of me not exactly being too in-the-know about Final Fantasy jobs and classes prior to FF7.
That being said, I'm personally one of the few holding out for Corsair. Not because I want to play a pirate job necessarily, but for the simple reason that it would feel like the spiritual successor to what the Rogue class should have been. Let's be real: the moment Rogue turned into Ninja, all the Lominsan overtones about the job just went away—even if they're basically the same template.
As everyone's already said, the old "Ninjas versus Pirates" meme is a pretty easy guess as to why it'd be Corsair. For gameplay, I'm personally theorizing that if it's a sword-pistol combo, it'll be the inverse of Red Mage. If Red Mage is a ranged caster DPS with a melee phase, Corsair might be a physical melee DPS with a ranged phase:
It builds up power like a Rogue from World of Warcraft might build combo points, and then they disengage and unload all of that accumulated power via their pistol to perform hard-hitting attacks, ending with some sort of finisher that returns them to the fray—not unlike Red Mage's finisher that removes them from melee after their combo
9:45 Musketeer
I love the idea of Pirates and Ninjas using the same gear kit.. but I do find it a strech compared to others. and in regard to pictomancer, the new TMNT is also very stylized art as well. but its still a huge guessing game. good luck everyone on your guess
Aside from corsair or rather swashbuckler being an option since they could be meele focused, id love saying corsair is off the table causes its weapon type is "gun" must mean im hallucinating dark knights, samurai and red mage cause they use a "sword"
Machinists use a musketoon and primarily mid sized rifle, having a character use handguns (maybe even akimbo) or larger sniper rifles or even a (possibly ship-) cannon is just as possible however those would likely be phys ranged but im just saying they arw quite possible
What i find interesting is the sole focus of the shirt since we see WoL wield a one handed sword in the trailer but no shield nor catalyst in sight so that could be simmilarly a tease to thancred wielding a gunblade in shadowbringers and the dancer wielding chakrams, since he allready was paladin so that wouldnt be it either
I think a Green Mage would be a shield healer and not a Magic DPS
You missed one. Geomancer. One of the more famous TMNT games is "Turtles in Time" and there's a quest surrounding Geomancy called "Tortoise in Time"
I could see Green Mage as kind of like an inverted Red Mage. White and Black Mages absorb aether from the land and air around them, a practice which led to the Flood of Water, and so Red Mages emerged to provide an alternative. What if Green Mages emerged around the same time for the same problem, but went in a darker direction. Instead of using the aether inside THEIR bodies, like Red Mages do, they instead figured out how to drain aether from living things and their opponents! Like a vampire, sucking aether out of enemies to put it into themselves and allies. Mechanically, it would basically involve "attacking" the opponent, i.e. draining their health directly or leeching it out with status effects, and filling up a gauge which you would spend on healing or giving buffs to allies, like a reversed White mage. Instead of healing and then being able to deal damage, you deal damage so that you can heal and/or buff yourself and others.
I share same idea of the last one, like DND weaponmaster, or transforming weapon. Surely it would be a task to define the weapon styles, the design of glam, the mechanic. Also, our scion friends will earn their new job with us, but all of them showed up with their 6.0 jobs except Krile, which make her best chance of magic DPS. Let's wait a little more, lol.
9:40 There is actually a defunct gun based guild in Limsa. Near the marauders guild you can clearly see a guild icon exactly like the one that the marauder's guild has, but the icon is of crossed pistols, even Merlyb's combat style matches a dual pistol combat style
Having considered the 4 wear types: maybe a DPS melee "All Around" type. After all: Graha is a good example.
Pictomancer is also included as a job in one of Square's more recent titles "Bravely Default 2", so them including it in another FF isn't so far-fetched.
What ever the classes are, I hope at least one of then has dual weapons.
My theory is chemist cuz The Ooze.
I don't think anything you mentioned disproves a corsair job. there are 2 new jobs coming and from what we've seen from the trailer it really looks like one of the new jobs will wield a sword and a gun. I think the shirt is more likely to be a reference to the caster job.
My personal wish is that the TMNT represents scouting gear and Leonard upfront means the new class is a dual wield swords melee fighter
I'm thinking swashbuckler/Buccaneer and pictomancer
My link between the TMNT shirt and a Corsair/Pirate job is through The Princess Bride where the Dread Pirate Roberts wore a black mask very similar to that of the turtles.
Look if we get pictomancer I'm going to be screaming "BLOOD ART TECHINCE! A PAINTING OF THE SOUL! I'LL MAKE YOU MY MASTERPIECE! THIS IS ART!" Cause well Brauner is my fav "pictomancer" plus I keep holding out for a Necromancer, or a job with a whip. Also thank you for not using pirate vs ninja. That just made me sigh.
That one boss in the omega raids also had a boss that kinda-sorta used Pictomancy, I guess. (The one with the four canvases in the boss room)
Green Mage was so strange… it just plucked out all the buffs/debuffs from the other mage jobs. I personally never really liked. Maybe they can repurpose the name Green Mage for something else?
(and I'd love to have a job with nunchucks lol)
TMNT -> Turtles in Time -> Pirate level -> Corsair (Gun+Sword)
Something to note about Picto is that, when you look outside the shirt and instead look at other stuff from FanFest, there’s two more hints towards the job. One very simple and one a lot more complex. The simple one involves the art for Urqopacha, a Macchu-Picchu parallel. But notably in it, there’s some painted hills, also mirroring the painted mountain in real life Peru. But the thing is, the painted mountain was artificially painted. Is the same true here?
The second and much more complex hint has to do with the trailer itself. In it, every Scion is seen, even Alphinaud briefly. Except two. Tataru, and Krile. Krile specifically has been very stated by the devs that they wanna do more with her specifically in 7.0 for a long while now, and we’re very upset that she accidentally got cut from the 6.0 official art with all the Scions and Venat. Krile herself is a parallel to a child character in FF5, and since we’re getting Female Hrothgar which are basically female Ronzo this expac, Ronzo Rage was essentially blue magic and Blue Mage is from the New World. This puts Krile into the perfect position to be the student of a Hrothgar Pictomancer, if you ask me. A stretch, I know. But there’s something else to note. No other Scion had a new outfit in this trailer. This would be the first expansion since Heavensward where the trailer did not show a new outfit for any scion if they don’t have one here. Derplander has one, our erroneous Scouting job that’s something akin to a pirate, but that’s not been the only new outfit we’ve seen in a trailer since HW. This leaves only Krile and Tataru to get a new outfit this expansion, and combined with everything above… yeah, I genuinely think that even if Picto doesn’t end up being the new job, Krile will job change to the new MDPS regardless.
I made the connection about the turtles and artists during the shirt reveal! It took me some googling to remember that the job was called Pictomancer (I've never played 6) but I am rallying behind that flag until the full reveal!
This is something minor I want to preface, theres a part recently in the game where Krile said she wished she had asked Y'shtola to summon something to help her clean. So if she does become a pictomancer, she could draw up some help. I know its really pointless and a bit of a stretch but I'm just excited for Krile to get some more active screen time, if she does.
The theories focusing on the Weapons of the turtles made me think. Why does it only have to be ONE weapon?
Is there a job in FF that uses multiple weapons? Like Gilgamesh?
