I honestly think they need a true and better way for mentor status than this. I have heard so many people I have played with grunt, groan and complain that they had to do sync'd Extremes from ARR and HW because they clicked Mentor Roulette
As a mentor myself yes I have been thrown into sync extremes for realm reborn and far too often and me and two other mentors that get added into it always have to end up explaining Yeah no one does these synced you can just go in unsynced with somebody who's level 90 and complete them quickly. Personally I don't mind it too much cuz I genuinely like running content so it's not a big issue for me. The issue comes when it's always King Moogle Mog.
And no I didn't join the mentor system to just get the mount. I joined because I genuinely like helping new players learn how to play the game. Also had a pure unbridled spite because there was somebody I used to be friends with that said I would never make it as a mentor… I have proved them wrong countless times.
Sadly there are quite a few toxic morons that joined mentor just for the mounts and I think they need to be flat out ban for their rudeness and disrespect to newbies. I had the displeasure of witnessing it myself while playing with a friend that I invited to try out the game. He was thoroughly enjoying the game up until the point he got to meet that POS mentor that I so badly wanted to reach through the PC screen and thrash to within an inch of life. It's people like that mentor that can give a bad image of FF14 to people thinking about trying out the game.
I didn't know there was a mount. I just want to get Mentor so I can help new players enjoy the game – and everyone around me has told me that most Mentors are awful.
Getting put into a synced ARR extreme from mentor roulette can be brutal, but as long as you’re straight up with the sprouts that the trial will take some time and many wipes will happen, and that wiping many times is completely normal and expected for extremes, I find that it can turn into a good experience and a great confidence booster for newer players. “If you want to rise, do the difficult.”
Two of my friends and myself had mostly been playing through the story together but without too much community interaction. We’ll post SHB, one of us wanted the weapon glam from Titania Extreme for their scholar, so we figured it probably wouldn’t happen but qued. We didn’t know about party finder at the time.
Well we end up with five mentors, and long story short they were all so shitty to us that one of my friends quit playing forever. She will never experience the full story after going so far because of a bunch of dicks not willing to explain the game. I now know that queing that way is not super normal, but instead of explaining any of that, the mentors did not mentor and instead were horrible.
0/10 never gonna become a mentor, I don’t want that stain next to my character’s name
I doubt I'm in the minority (I'm a mentor too) but i find it INCREDIBLY lame when I get into an older extreme with other mentors and some of them will just default to their usual "you can do these unsynced! Don't waste yours and others time"
Nut the fk up, learn the actual content and try to teach the children that waited 200 minutes, jeez.
I will always hate tanking with a mentor cause they will always hog the aggro even if they die (which is often) and would not let any other tank well tank , always hate it when I have to tank the roullete with them
I like the status cause I HOPED itd mean "ask me anything, I like to help!" . Ive heard mentors are often toxic sadly. Im doing my best to turn off my mentor staus when Im not in the mood to help people.
