MASSIVE FFXIV Surge has Aether at it’s LIMIT
Greetings FINAL FANTASY XIV players! This is your producer & director, Naoki Yoshida.
I’d like to say a huge thank you for the support from our players around the world, including those of you who recently started your adventures in FFXIV. On the other hand, the number of simultaneous logins has continued to hit the upper limit, especially in the case of the North American and European Data Centers and Worlds, and as such I’d like to provide an update regarding the current situation and the need to designate certain Worlds as Congested.

Getting into Sargatanas in the evening hours (US central time) hasn't been bad at all; I'm typically seeing a queue of 30-40, and within a minute or two I'm in. SE needs to be cautious about creating massively popular and lengthy activities/content in non-instanced areas, and it seems to know this. Notably, there's no jumping puzzle at Moonfire this year–easy to see why.
I was told toxic gold coming would be "only a good thing"🤔 funny because the game is barely playable with non stop disconnect issues (literally got DC'd over 20 times in a single day)
This is bad.
larger servers equals more guilds, faster cues for dungeons, more FCs and more social interaction but bigger cues. as a person who joined a new server in wow i HATED joining a smaller server. its a problem they will always have, its just to…social. so i personally dont mind the cues as long as the game does not explode.
I sincerely hope SE does not go the route of renting server space. There is already too much concentration of server power in the hands of too few massive companies that insist on applying politics to content.
In my personal perspective my suggestion would be for Activision Blizzard to actually lease space on their already existing servers to square enix for Final Fantasy XIV because of the massive exodus of world of Warcraft that they have been experiencing and that way they can still maintain in certain modicums of income for their current retained employees that are still working at the company. Meanwhile we get more server space for the particular situation that we happen to be experiencing. That would be my suggestion if that could actually reach the company heads ears that would probably be mutually beneficial because of the already existing servers that would probably not have to be configured to terribly much or at least hopefully.
Then the only issue would be getting all of the networkers out there to their proper areas where they can actually physically set up the servers properly. But please forgive me if I have something misconstrued because I'm not part of the preceded networking section of technical job affiliation.
Please have a fantastic day Brian and Chris.
Meanwhile over on Primal we're like: shrug
Been fine on crystal haven't ever waited longer then 10 minutes any time any day 60 being the highest queue I've seen.
I never wait more than 30 seconds to log in on Primal.
5$ for a chance at 10,000 Gil is a horrible rate 😂
WELCOME TO CRYSTAL all y'all 🙂
I've been on Crystal the entire time and have never waited longer than 2-3 minutes, max queue being 100-120 people, even on weekends. I totally remember base WoW queues with estimated 1-2 hour waits. I hope the wait times are alleviated soon.
I'm tempted to create an alt on Primal now to take advantage of the bonus. (Edit: Nevermind, bonus is only on Crystal)
No issues for me in Crystal so far. We shall see how it progresses!
*Its limit
Downloads like patches now leverage P2P tech (think torrents) to mitigate the bottleneck around any 1 server that's hosting the
I hear blizzard entertainment has some servers not currently in use. Maybe SE could buy them. ^^
SE is not affraid of the current Q time, it's near Endwalker they are affraid. Atm, most ppl get 5 min or less in the NA server since the upgrade.
What is scary is more and more like in october when ppl get back to prepare for endwalker. This is where it's going to be a problem
I've been using a virtual cloud based PC for about 12 months now and I love it. I can turn my gfx up to max, don't have to worry about hardware power creep anymore, or hardware reliability and the whole thing runs smooth as butter. I was worried about adding an extra layer of lag but it turns out it's so small I don't even notice when dodging mechanics.
It's starting to look like cloud servers aren't just the best solution to SE but the only solution by the time Endwalker comes out, on my Eu data center it's not unusual to have queues close to ( and even over) 1k. I don't always play during peak times either but even then I get queues up to 300-400. My brother D/C'd at the start of the MSQ roulette and he was lucky to get back online by the time it had finished.
I think you guys are underestimating just how many people are on crystal. A couple weeks ago, I finally convinced my wife to play FFXIV, and Goblin was the only server we could make characters on. My main character is on Mateus, so with the world visit system, it wasn't a big deal, but long story short, Crystal is pretty full too. It may not be as full as Primal, but it's pretty full.
To be honest, not surprise Aether hit cap. Asmongold, Limit, and a lot of other content creators have landed on Aether data center. With them comes their community because they want to play w/ said creator.
It's its limit not it's
I might regret this, but que times arent bad on Brynhildr if new players need somewhere to go. Highest que time ive seen is ..52? 56? so not terrible.
On primal. You guys have a login queue? Feels bad man
Highest queue number I've had on primal – exodus is like 92 and the longest time I've had to wait to get into the game is like 2 minutes
Havnt had any problems on Crystal or primal usually 40-60 in queue but getting in within a minute.
MASSIVE CLICKBAIT Surge has Viewership… uh…
oh yeah, it blends into the rest of the lackluster content on the recommended screen.
Square needs to do something about the people multiboxing 10 toons that bypass AFK logout timer, and just dance in Limsa on my server. This could easily account for 30 to 40 of the characters logged online at anytime in a visible manner. We are at server limitations and this sort of behavior should not be accepted. I'm not talking about someone AFK for dinner either, some of these toons have been standing in Limsa since the time I first started playing over a year ago, in the same exact spot. The only time you see them gone is maybe half a day after a server maintenance.
Agreed I'm glad that mmo's is being popular again! I cant wait to see what Daybreak and Bioware will do with their mmo's in the coming years. 🙂
I have long thought going to PAAS/IAAS in the cloud was the future of MMO's especially, it seems ideal to handle the spikes in players better than owning the infrastructure. I think it's worth maybe dedicating one datacenter to the cloud as a test
All the servers for Crystal are now "Preferred" including "Balmung".
"We already have all the stress data they need for NA and EU" is cathartically hilarious.
Endwalker is honestly the first time I don't want to take time off for the expansion launch. It's going to be so congested and queued up it will be a waste of vacation time. And that makes me sad, but at the same time takes off the "gotta go fast" pressure I've been conditioned to feel by WoW launches.
Been thinking about transferring to Aether. I guess that plan's on hold for now!
A lot of popular streamers are on or have moved to the Aether, so I think this is one big reason Aether is so congested. That, and Aether is more known for more Hardcore playstyles and endgame content clears than the other NA data centers as Crystal is known more for RP and Primal is known more for being Casual.
